Horror Chapter
A night passed quickly, and by the time Jiang Liu woke up from his dreams, it was already 9 AM. His stomach was growling incessantly.
Stepping out of his room, he saw Li Lin and a few others having breakfast. No one spoke; they simply ate the food in front of them.
Li Lin and Xu Qian seemed relatively unfazed, having experienced multiple supernatural events before. They understood that in situations like this, the only way to gather strength for whatever lay ahead was to eat well. The other two newcomers were not handling things as well. Lin Mao'er mechanically consumed his breakfast, likely unable to taste anything. As for the White-Collar Man, his dark circles and pale complexion indicated he had not slept at all, having stayed up all night.
"Did you sleep well? I didn’t wake you up because you looked so peaceful this morning," Li Lin said after finishing a few bites of his sandwich and taking a sip of water.
"Yeah, what happened last night left me a bit exhausted." Jiang Liu didn’t say much more and found a spot to start eating.
After taking a sip of water and clearing his throat, Li Lin broke the heavy silence at the table. "I assume everyone knows about last night’s events, so I won’t dwell on it. So far, we’ve survived three nights; aside from the first night when no one died, the other two nights have seen fatalities. At this rate, it’s very likely that at least one person will die again tonight! We need to find a way out quickly to safely get through the upcoming nights."
The White-Collar Man opened his mouth as if to say something but swallowed his words back down. Li Lin could read his expression and sighed. "I know what you’re thinking; you believe that breaking the mirror is our only potential escape route so far. But I’ve been there too; it’s just speculation on our part. We can’t confirm if it’s true or not. Have you considered that if breaking the glass isn’t a way out, we might face the danger of restrictions being lifted?"
"What do you mean by restrictions being lifted?" Jiang Liu asked after swallowing his food.
"Restrictions being lifted means triggering a dead end, which would remove all limitations imposed on us. To put it simply, it means all restrictions on us would be lifted," Li Lin said as he pulled out a cigarette, tossing one to Jiang Liu and the White-Collar Man before lighting one for himself. As he watched the smoke rise slowly, he continued, "Take this incident for example: once restrictions are lifted, all those rules set by the hotel—like having to stay in our rooms at night or not being allowed outside for more than half an hour—would disappear."
"Isn’t that beneficial for us?" The White-Collar Man asked with confusion. If triggering a dead end could lift all restrictions, why was it called a dead end? After pondering for a moment, he tentatively asked, "Does that include ghosts?"
"Yes."
Li Lin smoked quickly. By the time White-Collar Man and Jiang Liu had only smoked halfway through their cigarettes, he had already finished one. After a moment's thought, he lit another and continued smoking.
"So basically, no one wants to trigger a dead end casually. Once the conditions for the ghost are lifted, all of us here will have only one way out—death. Ignoring the rules and time, we could be killed at any moment, anywhere."
Xu Qian, being older, showed no expression as he absorbed this information. However, the other newcomers, including Jiang Liu, were hearing this for the first time and their faces turned pale. If what Li Lin said was true, breaking the mirror could mean doom for everyone. White-Collar Man quickly dismissed that thought; he didn’t want to die so unjustly. Although someone would die tonight, he wasn’t the only one in the hotel, and his chances of being the one were still quite low.
"Right now, this doesn't help us much. Let's first hear what happened to Jiang Liu last night and see if there are any special details," Li Lin said as he extinguished his cigarette and gestured for Jiang Liu to share his experience from the previous night.
At this point, Jiang Liu had also filled his stomach. Wiping his mouth, he recounted everything that had happened to him last night, leaving those present feeling terrified. As Li Lin listened to Jiang Liu's description, he scrutinized him as if seeing him for the first time.
This guy is too abnormal; he managed to stay calm in such a situation without losing composure like the other veterans. If it had been me last night, I might have handled it differently, but he only experienced one supernatural event and yet displayed such an unsettling calmness. It definitely wasn't as simple as he claimed; he's hiding something from me!
While describing his terrifying experience from last night, Jiang Liu noticed Li Lin's scrutinizing gaze but paid it little mind. When he saw Student Sister die last night, he realized that none of those present were trustworthy. He couldn’t believe that only he had picked up on Li Lin's insinuations yesterday afternoon while everyone else remained silent.
Of course, Jiang Liu didn’t have the right to judge others either; last night he harbored selfish thoughts and watched Student Sister walk step by step toward her death without intervening. In the face of life and death, everyone is selfish; no one has the right to judge anyone else. But after experiencing what happened last night, he believed that if he entrusted his life to anyone else in this room, he certainly wouldn’t survive this incident.
After finishing his account of last night's events, Jiang Liu took a large sip of water to clear his throat. "That's about it; you all know what happened afterward."
The reactions of those present varied after hearing Jiang Liu's description. White-Collar Man looked at him with admiration, while Lin Mao'er remained aloof; aside from frowning slightly at the bloody scenes described by Jiang Liu at first, he showed no further emotion. As for Xu Qian, she was somewhat surprised by Jiang Liu's calmness during those events and likely shared Li Lin's wariness toward him.
"After hearing your account, you think there's something strange about the mirror and the Clock?" Li Lin asked.
"Yes, there might be more than just those two things. But I was a bit flustered at the time and didn’t carefully observe other areas," Jiang Liu replied as he replayed last night's events in his mind but found no other peculiarities.
"You've done well enough. If it were me and Xu Qian, we could only reach the level you're at," Li Lin comforted for a moment before shifting the topic. "I have another question. Are you sure you left the room last night?"
"I'm certain. I even knocked on your door, but no one responded."
"That's strange!" Li Lin said, turning the cup of water in his hand as he looked at Jiang Liu with a very serious tone. "We all slept with our doors open last night. There's no way you could have closed your door and not received any response!"
