Horror Chapter
The man known as Fat Man was actually named Liu the Great. He was an honest and straightforward driver who occasionally took advantage of others in minor ways, believing that his life would pass by in a mundane manner. However, fate had a cruel joke in store for him.
When he woke up, he found himself in a strange vehicle, surrounded by people just like him. Initially thinking it was a kidnapping, a boy among them revealed that they were now in a place isolated from the real world, referred to as the Otherworld, or Edge World!
What was more alarming was that everyone else believed him!
Either this world had gone mad, or everyone else had lost their minds!
He wanted to distance himself from these people, but as he gazed out at the pitch-black unfamiliar surroundings outside the bus, his cowardice took over and he hesitated!
He remained silent, fearing that others would notice him. Fortunately, their attention was elsewhere. He thought that when the opportunity arose, he would escape! What supernatural events? What edge cases? Only crazy people would believe such nonsense! So at first, he didn’t want to get off the bus; he planned to leave this cursed place once they all disembarked!
As for where this place was? Who cared! He just wanted to get away from these lunatics!
However, he soon discovered a terrifying fact: the vehicle was still moving, yet there was no driver behind the wheel!
With a sense of safety in numbers, he decided to follow the group and see what happened next.
What a bold move! In this desolate wilderness, there was even a hotel! Did anyone actually stay there?
That was his first thought upon seeing the hotel. As an atheist, he didn’t connect these events to any supernatural forces; so far, he believed this was part of a secret government experiment on human nature—just like many foreign films depicted.
Upon entering the hotel, before he could fully grasp the situation, the leader of the group shouted something that sent everyone into a panic. He quickly found room 105.
“Damn it! A bunch of lunatics! Who believes in not going out after midnight for more than zero minutes?”
Upon entering the room, Liu the Great slammed the door shut, grumbling to himself. Despite his words, he lacked the courage to step back out alone.
He glanced around the lavishly decorated room and was taken aback.
It was incredibly luxurious! Was this what the life of the wealthy looked like?
That was his first thought, and then he remembered that this room would belong to him for a week, which made him feel excited.
Having lived in poverty for most of his life, he now had the chance to stay in such an extravagant hotel. He suddenly felt that being with this group of people wasn’t so bad after all, aside from their apparent quirks!
After lying on the spacious bed for a while, he felt a chill in the air and decided to look for the remote control for the air conditioning. As he passed by the bathroom door, he suddenly thought he should take a shower; after all, he had slept in the car for half the journey, and who knew what germs might have clung to him.
He stripped off his clothes and stood in front of a mirror embedded in the wall. Looking at his bloated body reflected back at him, he sighed.
“Ah, I used to be a slender youth back in the day, and now I’ve turned into a middle-aged man with a paunch. Truly, time waits for no one!”
After staring for a moment, he turned and walked into the bathroom. Just as he turned, a pair of pale, bare feet silently appeared behind him, but unfortunately, he didn’t notice.
He turned on the faucet, tested the water temperature, and found it just right before starting to wash up.
Closing his eyes, he savored the comfort of hot water cascading from head to toe. He felt all the shocks and fears he had experienced wash away with the flowing water. His body also signaled fatigue to his brain.
As he closed his eyes and enjoyed the soothing sensation of hot water cleansing him, something strange happened above him. The dew-covered Flower Panel suddenly stirred as if a calm surface of water had been disturbed by ripples. A ghostly figure with long black hair gradually emerged.
The long black hair swayed before Liu the Great as more than half of the ghostly figure surfaced from the Flower Panel. A pale face hovered quietly in front of him, silently watching Liu the Great. Fortunately, he had his eyes closed at that moment; otherwise, he might have been terrified by what lay before him!
Suddenly, while washing his hair, Liu the Great felt a chilling gaze upon him, causing the hairs on his neck to stand on end. It was as if someone was lurking in a corner of the spacious bathroom, secretly watching him.
He abruptly opened his eyes and glanced around the bathroom.
Yet, it remained just as empty as when he had entered, devoid of anyone.
He shook his head, thinking that he was being overly sensitive.
It was all those lunatics' fault, always up to some bizarre antics!
Wait! The mist seemed to be thickening too quickly!
Liu the Great noticed that the fog in the bathroom was becoming dense at an alarming rate. He had only been showering for a few minutes, yet the room was already filled with a swirling white mist. He briefly considered it but dismissed it, closing his eyes again to continue rinsing.
The red-dressed ghost that had appeared on the Flower Panel had vanished without a trace; he had no idea where it had gone.
But just as Liu the Great turned around, the ghost that had disappeared suddenly reappeared behind him, pressing closely against his back, while Liu remained completely unaware and continued rinsing!
After a moment, the ghost extended her pale, bony hands slowly toward Liu the Great's head.
Jiang Liu looked around the luxurious bedroom and felt a twinge of surprise.
"This is just too extravagant! Although I've never stayed in a five-star hotel, this kind of lavish decor is definitely over the top!"
After calming his emotions, Jiang Liu walked toward his bedroom. Upon entering, he noticed a clock on the wall that resembled the one in the lobby—a Black Clock—but it seemed to be set an hour ahead.
Another Black Clock! Is it a hint? Or simply a way to tell us the time?
After inspecting the entire room, Jiang Liu felt that something was off in the bedroom, as if something was missing. But no matter how hard he tried to observe, he couldn't figure out what it was.
What exactly is missing? The essentials for a hotel are all here—mirrors, a television, air conditioning—everything a hotel should have. But why does it still feel like something is lacking?
As someone who tends to overthink, not being able to figure something out was quite torturous for Jiang Liu.
Once he got stuck on a thought, it kept him awake. Just like now, it was already past midnight, and he was still searching the room for what might be missing.
After a long while, he noticed that the air in the room felt stuffy, so he decided to turn on the air conditioning. At the moment he picked up the remote control, a flash of insight struck him—he remembered what was missing in the room!
There are no windows! The entire large room has not a single window!
To verify his thought, he inspected the whole room again, and indeed, just as he suspected, there wasn't even one venting window; all around were white walls, and the only exit was the door!
As a hotel room, having no windows means there’s no way to escape to the outside world. If something were to happen in this room, the only Escape route would be through the door! But why are there no windows? A hint? Or is it something else?
Jiang Liu's discovery filled him with a bad premonition. If ghosts were to appear in the next few moments and there was no Escape route, it would mean being completely isolated and helpless. At that point, the chances of death would be extremely high!
Lost in these thoughts, he gradually fell into a deep sleep.
