Just as Jiang Liu was about to ask Li Lin more questions, the car that had been driving through the darkness suddenly came to a halt.
"We've arrived!" Li Lin announced. Upon hearing this, everyone turned to look outside the bus.
Indeed, not far away in the darkness stood a three-story hotel. What was surprising was that in this desolate wilderness, there was a modern hotel building, and despite the lack of power supply, it was brightly lit.
"Is this really the hotel where we will be staying for seven hours?" Jiang Liu stared incredulously at the astonishing scene before him.
Li Lin and Xu Qian began to gather their various bags in preparation to disembark. Turning back to the newcomers, Li Lin said, "I guess some of you might be reluctant to get off, but I advise you to follow the mission objectives. Otherwise, I can't guarantee what might happen."
"I don't want to! I don't want to get off! I refuse to enter that strange hotel. This car is our only safe zone right now; if we don't get off, we should be fine!"
The Fat Man, who had been silent until now, cowered in fear at the back of the vehicle and refused to get out. The Student Sister and the White-Collar Man echoed his sentiments: "Yeah! I think he's right. As long as we don't enter that weird hotel, we can avoid any trouble!"
"Why do we always have such newcomers?" Li Lin sighed as he looked at the few who were hiding inside the car, too scared to step out. He patiently explained one last time, "If it were that simple, there wouldn't be so many deaths in every paranormal incident! I almost forgot to mention one last thing: whenever we reach our destination, the safe zone disappears in a very short time. Right now, you have two choices: either enter the mission location and carry out your task or die out here!"
Upon hearing Li Lin's words, the expressions of the others began to waver. Li Lin and Xu Qian quietly watched as they stood at the door of the vehicle, waiting for them to make their final decision.
"Let's go. Although I also don't want to enter that creepy hotel, I'm more afraid of what terrifying things might happen once this safe zone disappears," Jiang Liu was the first to express his stance.
"I'll go with you guys too, but can you guarantee my safety?" the Student Sister asked earnestly.
Li Lin opened his mouth to respond but was pulled back by Xu Qian. He turned to the Student Sister and said, "Yes, as long as you listen to us and don’t act irrationally, I can guarantee your safety!"
"Okay then, I'll follow you!" The Student Sister nodded and stood up behind Xu Qian.
"I am willing to go with you, as long as you guarantee my safety!" The White-Collar Man expressed his willingness to follow the Student Sister and join Li Lin as they got off the bus and entered the hotel.
There was also a girl who had remained silent until now, quietly standing behind Jiang Liu. He glanced at her in surprise, feeling that she gave off a different vibe, as if she held many secrets.
In the carriage, only the Fat Man with Courage had yet to make a choice. When he saw that everyone else was following Li Lin and he was the only one left in the vehicle, he exclaimed in panic, "Don't leave me behind! I want to go with you too!"
"Since everyone has made their choice, let's go. I'll be upfront about this: I can guarantee your safety, but if any of you act irrationally, don't blame me for being ruthless!" Li Lin took on the role of the stern leader.
Everyone nodded in agreement, indicating they would listen to Li Lin from now on.
As they stepped out of the vehicle, a chilling wind from the mountains swept over them, causing everyone to shiver involuntarily. Looking at the hotel standing alone in the darkness, Jiang Liu felt as if they were walking toward some kind of hell.
Upon entering, they found that the hotel appeared to have been cleaned recently; the shiny, tidy floor reflected their group’s figures. A Black Clock hung on the wall of the spacious lobby, standing out prominently and immediately catching their attention—it was precisely 8 o'clock!
"It's so clean! It looks like someone just tidied up!" The Student Sister exclaimed in surprise upon seeing the neat hotel. "It's nothing like I imagined."
"What did you imagine? A rundown place? Or a spooky haunted hotel?" Li Lin asked.
"Pretty much; definitely not like this, which resembles a five-star hotel."
The Student Sister's words were echoed by several other newcomers. This so-called haunted hotel was nothing like they had envisioned; there were no dilapidated surroundings or eerie winds, making them momentarily feel as if they were on vacation somewhere else.
"One should never judge by appearances," Jiang Liu remarked as he observed the unusually pristine hotel environment. "The existence of such a modern hotel deep in an uninhabited forest already indicates that something significant has happened here."
"Indeed!" Li Lin surveyed their surroundings with a furrowed brow. "We will be staying here for the next week. Everyone should look around for any clues."
Following Li Lin's instructions, they dispersed to search for leads. Just then, the White-Collar Man suddenly called out.
"Everyone, come and look at what's written up there!"
Hearing the words of the White-Collar Man, everyone rushed to his location. They discovered that he had found a piece of white paper at the hotel reception, which seemed to contain some written content.
Li Lin took the paper and read aloud what was written on it.
"Rooms for seven guests: Li Lin in Room 101, Xu Qian in Room 10, Jiang Liu in Room 10, Jin Wanquan in Room 104, Liu the Great in Room 105, Lin Mao'er in Room 106, and Li Jing in Room 107."
"Mission Rules:
1. Everyone must stay in their own room at night.
2. No one is allowed to remain outside for more than zero minutes at night.
3. You must stay in the hotel for a full week!"
"It seems these are the rules we cannot violate during this supernatural event. I originally planned for everyone to stay in one room, but it looks like that's not possible now."
Jiang Liu frowned, and upon hearing the game rules, everyone else's expressions changed as well.
The Student Sister trembled as she said, "What should we do? Do we really have to stay alone in our rooms?"
As an experienced member, Li Lin replied helplessly, "There's no choice; these restrictions have been imposed on us, and we can only comply! Otherwise, it could lead to dire consequences."
"So what should we do now?" asked the White-Collar Man, also known as Jin Wanquan, turning to Li Lin.
Li Lin looked at the paper and pondered for a moment before saying, "I don't know. But since we already know our room numbers, I think what we should do is find our own rooms."
"I’m scared! I don’t want to be alone in a room! Can I stay with you, Sister?" The student sister named Li Jing looked at Xu Qian, her eyes filled with tears as she pleaded.
Xu Qian shook her head. "You heard it too; the restriction is that we must stay in our own rooms. If you don’t want to die, I suggest you sleep alone."
[Are we not allowed to stay outside for long? Does this include other people's rooms? What about Bai? Why is there a restriction that we can't stay outside our rooms for more than zero minutes? Wouldn't it be better to just restrict us from going out at night?]
Jiang Liu looked at the contents on the paper, his mind racing as he hoped to find some clues from the information above. The crowd around him was engaged in discussions about whether they should immediately find their rooms or continue searching for other clues in the hotel.
"I think we should find our rooms as soon as possible!" Jiang Liu glanced at the clock hanging on the wall of the lobby. More than twenty minutes had passed since they entered the hotel, and he had a bad feeling.
"What’s wrong? Did you discover something?" Li Lin asked Jiang Liu.
"This is just my guess," Jiang Liu pointed at the clock for everyone to see. "When we came in, the clock showed exactly 8 o'clock!"
Li Lin reacted quickly; after hearing Jiang Liu's words, she first looked puzzled, then her expression changed as she shouted to everyone, "Quick! Everyone, go find your rooms! There's no time to explain; remember to go straight in once you find your room and absolutely do not come out!"
With that, Li Lin grabbed Xu Qian and started running. The others' faces changed upon hearing Li Lin's words, their hearts sinking! Without time to ask questions, they all rushed off in a frenzy.
Fortunately, all their rooms were on the first floor, so there was no need to go upstairs. Jiang Liu's room was number 10. Looking at the number plate hanging on the door, he hesitated about whether he should go in or not. But as time was running out, he finally gritted his teeth and opened the door, stepping inside.
