Horror Chapter
In the dead of night, a tour bus, traveling at about sixty miles per hour, moved alone through the deep mountains. The dense forests on either side rushed past, appearing eerily terrifying in the profound darkness. The branches swayed in the chilling mountain breeze, resembling malevolent spirits dancing wildly, instilling a sense of dread.
However, what was even more frightening was that there was no driver in the driver's seat of this bus navigating through the wilderness! A bus that continued to drive smoothly without a driver raised suspicions that some unknown mysterious force was controlling it.
But where was it headed?
To the unknown depths of darkness?
Or to a more terrifying hell?
Or perhaps somewhere else entirely!
……
[Voices surrounded him, the slightly swaying seat, and the howling wind... Had he returned to that horrifying supernatural event?]
Jiang Liu, awakening, did not open his eyes immediately but pretended to be asleep! He listened carefully to the conversations around him.
"From the rules of this mission, it seems to be a survival-type supernatural event! What do you think?"
A somewhat mature male voice spoke first, followed by a more delicate voice that seemed youthful, likely belonging to a female aged between zero and five years.
"If we look purely at the mission requirements, the number seven seems to represent some kind of hint! Given us seven time units, I think we will likely encounter many dangers within this period."
"Ah, I hope this survival path isn't too obscure; otherwise, not just these newcomers but even the two of us might die in this supernatural event!"
"Don't underestimate yourself too much; haven't we always survived by the skin of our teeth? As for these newcomers..." The woman paused before continuing, "It all depends on their luck! We can help if we can; if not, we’ll just have to abandon them."
"There's nothing else we can do," the man sighed helplessly.
Silence fell around them once more.
From their conversation, it was clear that these two had been through many missions together. The man mentioned that this mission would take seven days, and during those seven days, many dangers could arise. And there was a newcomer? Did that mean someone experiencing such terrifying supernatural events for the first time?
"Hmm?"
Not pretending to be asleep anymore, Jiang Liu deliberately made a sound, catching the attention of the two who had been talking. He then opened his eyes and feigned confusion as he looked around. The two conversing turned their heads in unison towards Jiang Liu.
As he played his part, he realized he was inside a car. Outside the bus, it was pitch black, making it impossible to see where they were. However, through the darkness, he could still make out dense trees lining the road, leading him to suspect they were deep in the mountains.
In addition to himself and the two conversing, there were four others sleeping in the car—two men and two women. He shifted his gaze back to the two who had been talking.
The boy and girl were dressed similarly in gray casual outfits, resembling a couple. The boy sported a buzz cut and wore square black glasses; his delicate features made him appear quite slender. The girl was strikingly beautiful, with an oval face, well-defined eyes, and shoulder-length ponytail that gave her an air of elegance.
As Jiang Liu assessed them, they were also sizing him up. Upon seeing his puzzled yet calm demeanor, they exchanged glances and nodded at each other, recognizing surprise and approval in each other's eyes regarding this newcomer.
"Hello, I'm your guide, Li Lin. You can also call me Brother Li. As for this lovely lady beside me, her name is Xu Qian; she is my... partner!"
The man spoke first, introducing himself and then gesturing towards the girl. Upon hearing his last words, Xu Qian's expression dimmed slightly but quickly returned to a smile as she nodded at Jiang Liu.
"Hello, I'm Jiang Liu—Jiang Liu who never gives up," Jiang Liu introduced himself.
"You might just be the most composed newcomer I've ever seen!" the man praised Jiang Liu.
"Then it will be my honor, but I've experienced it before, so I won't feel panicked now," Jiang Liu humbly replied.
"You've experienced this kind of supernatural event before?"
"Yes, I encountered a situation like this half a month ago, where I suddenly appeared in another place."
"No wonder you seem so calm as a newcomer. I'm curious about what your last supernatural event was," Li Lin said, now understanding why the young man in front of him was so composed.
"It was similar to the game Black Please Close Your Eyes, where you need to identify the ghost's identity!" Jiang Liu briefly explained the game rules.
Li Lin pondered for a moment and said, "So it was a survival-type supernatural event. No wonder you are different from other newcomers; it seems we've struck gold this time!"
Xu Qian, who had been listening nearby, visibly flickered his gaze when he heard the term "survival-type supernatural event." His look towards Jiang Liu changed; it was no longer the same as when he first regarded him as if he were a dead person. There was now a hint of surprise in his eyes.
"Survival-type supernatural event? From what you're saying, are there different kinds of supernatural events?"
"Yes, but generally, they can be divided into two types. One is the survival-type supernatural event I just mentioned, which has a very high mortality rate! Except for the elderly in the safe zone, other newcomers who encounter this type of event are basically doomed."
Hearing this, Jiang Liu's heart began to sink. Reflecting on his previous two supernatural events, he realized how unfortunate his luck had been; all three times he faced high-mortality survival-type events. Yet his luck was also extraordinary because he had survived both previous incidents. He couldn't help but wonder what kind of supernatural event this time would be.
"The other type of supernatural event is relatively simpler than the survival-type but is precisely what we veterans dread encountering," Li Jing interjected, her expression showing signs of unease.
Li Lin noticed Xu Qian's strange mood and guessed the reason behind it. After pausing for a moment, he continued, "This type of supernatural event is referred to as an unknown supernatural event."
"What does that mean?"
"It means..."
Just as Li Lin was about to explain, the other newcomers in the vehicle began to wake up, interrupting their conversation.
The first to awaken was a short-haired girl, dressed in a manner suggesting she was still a student. Student Sister opened her eyes and found herself in an unfamiliar environment. Not far in front of her were a man and a woman staring at her, and there were others around who appeared to be unconscious. Instinctively, she assumed that Jiang Liu and the others were kidnappers and that she had been taken captive.
"I don't have any money! You won't get much ransom from kidnapping me. How about I just give you all the cash I have on me, and you let me go?"
She began rummaging through her wallet. Jiang Liu and Li Lin exchanged glances, unable to comprehend how they could be associated with kidnappers. They were puzzled as to why Student Sister would mistake them for criminals.
"I thought the quality of the new recruits would be better this time; it seems you're just an exception!" Li Lin remarked, watching as Student Sister became increasingly distressed while searching for her wallet.
"After all, I’ve been through a supernatural event myself. It seems like this is her first encounter with something like this, so her reaction is quite normal."
Xu Qian, feeling sympathetic as a fellow woman, stepped forward to comfort Student Sister. "Don't worry, we're not bad people, nor are we kidnappers!"
Upon hearing Xu Qian's explanation, the girl looked at her with tear-filled eyes. "If you’re not kidnappers, then how did I end up in this place?"
Seeing the bewildered expression on Student Sister's face, Xu Qian hesitated to speak further. It was Li Lin who finally took the initiative.
"Let me explain it to her. Actually, we are victims just like you; it’s just that this isn’t a kidnapping. We are all unfortunate souls toyed with by fate. The place we find ourselves in can no longer be considered the real world; it’s an Otherworld filled with ghosts and monsters!"
