Horror Chapter
"I found it! The path to survival was laid out before us from the very beginning; we just didn't notice! It was we who abandoned our initial chance at life!"
After a few minutes, Jiang Liu opened his eyes. His gaze flickered with a hint of madness, and a smile crept onto his lips, as if everything had finally clicked into place. However, his complexion had turned pale, but the Ugly Mask on his face concealed any signs of his distress, leaving no one aware of his change.
Suppressing the tremor in his voice, Jiang Liu continued.
"Let’s assume that the two ghosts do not know each other’s identities. Each ghost would then have their own unique method of killing. Based on this premise, I’ve speculated some scenarios.
First, the False Ghost! Since the False Ghost is randomly selected from among us living beings, I suspect that its method of killing is relatively free compared to the True Ghost; it might even choose not to exercise its right to kill!"
At these words, the lazy gaze directed at Jiang Liu sparked with excitement.
"So he already knows his identity! But when did he figure it out? No matter! I’ve finally found such an entertaining toy! Don’t let me down now! How arrogant!"
"Since the False Ghost's method of killing is more flexible, conversely, the True Ghost's method must be bound by rules! This means that the True Ghost cannot kill at will! It must adhere to the rules allowed by the game for killing! As for the killing rules given to the True Ghost by the game, I believe they are represented by the numerical codes assigned to us at the start of the game! This is also a form of hint! Although we noticed this point at first, we failed to comprehend it."
"Do you know who the True Ghost is now?" A tone of jealousy tinged with surprise emerged in their voice. Undoubtedly, Jiang Liu's performance at this moment illuminated a glimmer of hope for everyone present, making them view him as their last lifeline. Except for the lazy one who had always been unclear about their true identity; their gaze towards Jiang Liu increasingly radiated an aura of danger, causing Jiang Liu to feel a wave of pressure. He turned around but could not identify who was casting such a significant weight upon him.
Pushing aside his unease, Jiang Liu continued with his deductions: "I have already confirmed the identity of the True Ghost, but there are still about ten minutes until identification time. During this period, I will share my deductions to prevent any doubts from lingering until the end."
Upon hearing that Jiang Liu had indeed identified the True Ghost, a heavy weight lifted from everyone's hearts. If he had already confirmed the identity of the True Ghost, then in just over ten minutes this game would conclude. They might as well take advantage of this time to listen to Jiang Liu's deductions and see if there were any errors; otherwise, if they misidentified at the end, two more would face death.
Silence fell over them as they all listened intently to Jiang Liu's forthcoming deductions.
"Actually, the game gave us clear hints from the very beginning! It's just that everyone was distracted by other things and didn't notice the differences that followed."
"What hints?"
"Hehe... Did anyone notice how the mysterious voice's words changed from First Night to Second Night and Third Night?"
"Changed? I don't think so. I remember when First Night came, my mind was filled with the fear of seeing hell for the first time, and I didn't pay attention to what the mysterious voice said at all," Jealousy frowned as he recalled.
"Me too, I didn't notice anything."
"I was blank at that time; I didn't pay attention to much!"
"I'm just like you!"
...
"I also didn't notice these things until Third Night, but by then I had already forgotten what the mysterious voice said on First Night, so I couldn't figure some things out. It wasn't until just now that I remembered what the mysterious voice said on the first page!"
"What did it say? Wait! What changed?" Jealousy asked eagerly.
Jiang Liu first raised his index finger: "First Night, it said (Black Please Close Your Eyes! The Ghost is Coming!)"
Then he raised his middle finger: "Second Night, it said (Black, Please Close Your Eyes! The Ghost Begins to Act!)"
Finally, it was the ring finger that spoke: “Third Night, it ( Black, Please Close Your Eyes! The Ghost Begins to Act! )”
“Is there a difference?” Greed asked, puzzled.
Jiang Liu smiled and replied seriously, “Yes, and it’s a significant difference! Have you ever thought about why it changed its method? Especially when Second Night changed its method at the same time that 5 Lust was killed by the ghost! Shortly after, 8 Joy was also killed on Third Night! But during First Night, the ghost didn’t kill anyone! Why is that?”
“Just get to the point! Stop asking us questions. If I were that smart, I wouldn’t need to listen to you!” Rage impatiently urged Jiang Liu to hurry up and not keep them in suspense.
“Well, fine. But this way, it loses a lot of fun,” Jiang Liu shrugged and explained. “So I made a bold hypothesis! What if First Night actually had someone dead already? Then it would make sense why the ghost came during First Night. The game is just insidious for not telling us!”
“You mean the ghost actually started killing during First Night, but it replaced the first victim and became part of this game! And we mistakenly believed that no one died because our lazy assumptions were correct! Later on, during Second Night and Third Night, people continued to die, and we thought we had uncovered the ghost's true identity, which led to the killings. But that’s not true! Every night, the ghost kills One Person! Everything was due to our own incorrect assumptions!” Greed exclaimed excitedly.
“Damn! Who could have noticed such a insidious hint in advance!” Rage fumed at Greed’s explanation. “If any of us missed that, wouldn’t that lead to total annihilation?”
“In fact, compared to other hints, this one was quite clearly placed before us; we just didn’t observe carefully,” Jiang Liu looked at everyone present, his gaze somewhat sorrowful as he spoke in a low voice. “When I noticed this point, I realized that we had already missed a chance for survival right at the beginning of the game!”
“Why did the ghost only start killing on First Night! Why didn’t it kill someone among us right at the start of the game? Instead, it chose such a troublesome method! I think all of this can be attributed to the constraints imposed on it by the game. Actually, during the first identification in the game, if False Ghost had just stepped forward and let us identify him, then True Ghost wouldn’t have had a chance to infiltrate among us, and the game would have ended directly! Unfortunately, none of us noticed the textual trap set by the mysterious voice at that time, leading False Ghost to believe that as long as he was found out, he would die. Thus, we abandoned our only path to survival together!”
