Horror Chapter
“Have you thought of something?”
Jiang Liu looked at the pensive boy, noticing how unnaturally calm he seemed. In the face of such a supernatural situation, he was still able to observe his own demeanor and accurately grasp the situation at hand. Although Jiang Liu felt a twinge of resentment, his instincts told him that whether they would survive this ordeal might depend on this nameless boy before him.
“No, but we can make some assumptions. Everything we’ve encountered exudes a strange atmosphere. Let’s treat it as supernatural. The key to escaping this supernatural situation lies in that note you had, but unfortunately, you threw it away. There might have been other clues. By the way, did the note have any other hints?”
“Yes, there was another hint: the ghost got on the bus before me.”
“Got it. If my memory serves me right, we boarded the bus together, and you were the last one to get on. Who else got on before you?”
“I observed that everyone currently on the bus got on before me.” Jiang Liu glanced at the few people who had already fallen into despair and felt grateful to have a rational person helping him analyze the situation; otherwise, he might truly die here.
“So, the ghost is among the six others, including me, who boarded before you.” The boy furrowed his brow, lost in thought for a moment before suddenly turning to Jiang Liu. “Sorry, I haven’t introduced myself yet. My name is Li Jian, and that’s my girlfriend Li Ya sleeping in the back.”
“Hello, I’m Jiang Liu—Jiang Liu who never gives up.” Jiang Liu introduced himself and then asked Li Jian, “I have a question.”
“What’s your question?”
“Well, judging by your expression, this should be your first encounter with supernatural phenomena too; it’s just that you seem…”
Li Jian smiled slightly, revealing a row of neat teeth. “You mean I seem overly calm?”
“Exactly,” Jiang Liu nodded.
"I used to participate in the Supernatural Guild and the Detective Guild, and since I'm personally interested in these paranormal phenomena, that's why I don't seem too scared when encountering such things," Li Jian explained to Jiang Liu.
"Let's set aside the small talk and return to the current topic. Do you think there's something off about anyone in this vehicle?" Li Jian scanned the interior with his eyes but found that everyone appeared normal, except for an elderly man with white hair who seemed less frightened.
"If there's anything unusual, I think besides me and you two, the other four people are acting a bit strange!"
"What do you mean by strange?"
"It seems like they noticed too late," Jiang Liu recalled. After the incident occurred, the reactions of the others in the vehicle were too slow. Aside from the girl who first saw the ghost and himself, who received a note, everyone else seemed a bit dull. Although Li Jian appeared normal now, he had initially reacted too slowly to the abnormal situation outside, just like the others.
Li Jian stroked his chin. "If that's the case, we might all be ghosts. Thinking back, my mind was a blur at that moment; it felt like my perception of the outside world was zero. By the time I came to my senses, everything had already happened."
Realizing this line of thought was not very meaningful, both fell into their own contemplation. The others in the vehicle seemed resigned as well, sitting blankly in their seats, waiting for the bus to take them into the dark abyss.
"Slowly recall it; don’t rush. Take it bit by bit... I should have just gotten on the bus when I found that note in my pocket, and then I heard someone mention seeing a ghost. Right! Li Jian's girlfriend saw a ghost; I should ask him what happened."
"I remember earlier you mentioned your girlfriend saw a ghost. What was that about?" Jiang Liu asked Li Jian.
Li Jian suddenly wore a strange expression as he looked at Jiang Liu and asked, "Are you sure you want to know?"
"Of course; this could be a clue," Jiang Liu replied.
"Do you know why I came directly to you?" Li Jian didn't answer Jiang Liu's question but posed another one instead.
Jiang Liu shook his head, unsure. Suddenly he thought of something and looked at Li Jian in surprise. "You mean... your girlfriend saw a ghost that wasn't me, right?"
"Well, if you really were a ghost, I wouldn't dare come to talk to you," Li Jian said, stroking his chin as he looked at Jiang Liu. "Ya saw a ghostly figure lying on you, and when she tried to get a better look, the ghostly figure suddenly turned its head to stare at her."
At that moment, hearing Li Jian's words made Jiang Liu feel as if he had been pulled into an abyss. He involuntarily shivered, feeling a chill creeping up his back, as if something was lurking behind him. With a voice tinged with a hint of fear, he asked, "You're not joking with me, are you?"
"This is what you wanted to hear," Li Jian shrugged helplessly. "So when I sensed something was off, I came straight to find you, hoping to uncover some clues from you. But now it seems that this whole situation is likely caused by you."
"I don't even know what's going on," Jiang Liu said with a bitter smile. "I still can't believe I'm facing something like this."
"Since it has already happened, let's not dwell on it too much. We should first deal with the immediate issue."
"Do you have any ideas?" Jiang Liu had now come to regard Li Jian as the focal point of their discussion and wanted to hear his thoughts.
"I think since you're the only one among us who received the note, you must possess some extraordinary ability. You might have seen certain key details that we overlooked," Li Jian said, staring into the darkness outside the window. "Honestly, I'm a bit excited. Those supernatural phenomena that science doesn't acknowledge are now right in front of me—what an exhilarating experience!"
Jiang Liu suddenly felt that this state of Li Jian was dangerous, stirring an impulse within him to distance himself from him. He didn't share Li Jian's reckless enthusiasm; for him, living a simple and ordinary life was the greatest happiness. He didn't want to encounter such bizarre events, especially ones that could threaten his life.
However, Jiang Liu did take note of what Li Jian said. During the time when Li Jian seemed dazed, he himself had been fully alert and keenly observing the scenery outside the bus. Yet he couldn't recall when exactly the view outside had vanished; upon reflection, it must have been during that time when Li Ya saw the ghost—he had stopped admiring the scenery and instead focused on them.
[If that's the case, then during that period we must have entered another space. But I received the note before that—could it be that note was actually a hint? But what exactly was it hinting at?]
