Almost at the same moment that Gu Chen made a sound, I was pulled around by him. However, the cold wind came rushing in too quickly, so fast that by the time I turned around, it was already behind me.
Indeed, it had come right behind me.
This was not just any wind; each gust carried a shadow within it.
At the same time, whether in front of us or on either side, several more gusts of cold wind surged in, encircling Gu Chen and me tightly in an instant.

“These fellows are all Ghost Kings,” Gu Chen said, his expression serious but without a hint of fear. “But it’s fine; just stay close to me.”
I glanced around and saw that there were at least ten of those black shadows surrounding us—Ghost Kings, no less.
Ten Ghost Kings!
Ghost Kings are not Ghost Soldiers, nor are they Wandering Spirits or Wild Ghosts. Yet here was Gu Chen, remaining so calm in the face of such terrifying beings. This gave me a bit of confidence as I nodded and softly replied.
“Ghosts have their paths, and humans have theirs. I don’t care what your intentions are; you should retreat immediately. Our business in the Yin Domain is done, and we will be leaving now.” Gu Chen’s gaze swept over the dozens of Ghost Kings surrounding us as he spoke calmly but with an underlying threat.
Threatening Ghost Kings—especially in front of dozens of them—was something only he could dare to do.
However, it seemed that the Ghost Kings did not fully grasp his threat. They remained unmoved, and two of them suddenly surged forward with overwhelming Ghostly Energy, charging directly at us.
No, in that moment, I realized that their target was not Gu Chen, but me, standing beside him.
Because those two Ghost Kings were charging directly at me.
"Hmph, overestimating yourselves."
Gu Chen snorted coldly. As the two Ghost Kings lunged toward us, two purple talismans appeared in his hands. With a flick of his fingers, two beams of purple fire shot out, followed by piercing screams as the figures of the two Ghost Kings were sent flying.
The speed was even faster than when they had charged at us, and it was far more than just a simple push. The purple flames seemed unquenchable; after sending them flying, they continued to burn on the bodies of the two Ghost Kings.
In an instant, those two Ghost Kings that had pounced on me were engulfed in the purple flames, burning to ashes amidst their wails.
I widened my eyes, unable to believe what I was witnessing.
Even the formidable Ghost Kings were so easily defeated before Gu Chen. It seemed my master's abilities far exceeded my understanding.
Of course, I was not the only one shocked. The surrounding Ghost Kings, who had been restless moments ago, now displayed deep fear and trepidation on their faces after witnessing Gu Chen's thunderous display of power. Instinctively, they began to retreat a short distance.

Although these Ghost Kings had backed off a bit, countless shadows were converging from all directions in this brief moment.
The number of Ghost Kings had not diminished due to Gu Chen's earlier strike against two of them; rather, it was still increasing.
Among those shadows, even the weakest ones were likely at the level of Ghost Generals.
In an instant, we found ourselves surrounded with no way out.
"Are you afraid?" Gu Chen asked softly as he scanned our surroundings.
"I'm not afraid." I shook my head decisively. In truth, I was terrified, but as Gu Chen's disciple, I didn't want to bring him shame.
Gu Chen nodded and said, "Alright, since you're not afraid, then come with me. Otherwise, if we wait any longer, we might really not be able to escape."
As he spoke, I saw him carefully take out a silver rune from his robe, holding it between his fingers and raising it in front of him.
The moment he revealed the Silver Rune, I noticed the Ghost Generals around us showing expressions of terror, hurriedly retreating.
Clearly, this Silver Rune had a far greater deterrent effect on them than when he had just eliminated two of their kind.
Ignoring their fearful yet restless expressions, Gu Chen held the silver rune in one hand while grabbing my arm with the other. He led me quickly toward the gates of Mu City.
With each step forward, the Ghost Generals blocking our path, despite being at a distance, could not help but retreat further back as if fearing that even a slight approach would lead to their doom.
However, as we neared the city gates, the Ghost Generals finally seemed unable to hold back any longer. Although their gazes toward Gu Chen were filled with fear, several of them exchanged glances and suddenly blocked our way.
"Do you want to ruin a hundred years of cultivation?" Gu Chen continued walking without stopping, his eyes sweeping over them one by one. He slightly raised the Silver Rune in his hand.
His words, combined with the elevated Silver Rune, made the Ghost Generals retreat once more.
From their expressions, I could tell they were genuinely afraid of the Silver Rune in Gu Chen's hand.
"Leave him behind; you can go," one of them suggested reluctantly.
Upon hearing this, Gu Chen sneered coldly and replied, "You think you can stop me if I want to leave?"
Without pausing his steps, he continued pulling me forward without any intention of stopping.
One of the Ghost Generals had to speak again: "We are people of Mu Emperor. You may not know this yet, but we have reached an agreement with Dark Night Ghost Emperor. As soon as this person appears in Yin Domain, we will capture him immediately. The Ghost Generals from Dark Night Ghost Emperor are also rushing here. Even Mu Emperor and Dark Night Ghost Emperor must have received news and will arrive soon."
I was startled by this revelation, but Gu Chen raised an eyebrow and said, "A ghost is still a ghost; don’t call yourselves people. Don’t think that mentioning Mu Emperor and that fellow from Dark Night can intimidate me, Gu Chen. If you have the ability, wait until they arrive."
Though he spoke confidently, I could sense that Gu Chen still held a deep apprehension toward those two Demon Emperors.
Especially when I thought about the last time I was searching for Mu Yan, the scene of Gu Chen being severely injured during our first encounter with Mu Emperor and Dark Night Ghost Emperor came to mind, and I couldn't help but feel a bit worried.
If those two Demon Emperors really arrived, what kind of outcome would we face then?
What relieved me somewhat was that, in the face of the Silver Rune in Gu Chen's hand, those ghost kings, although they knew that it wouldn't be long before Mu Emperor and Dark Night Ghost Emperor would arrive, dared not make any attempt to obstruct us. Instead, they kept retreating step by step.
Humans have their own ways, demons have theirs, and ghosts have theirs; to cultivate to the level of a ghost king, as Gu Chen had said earlier, each ghost king must have practiced for hundreds or even thousands of years.
Though they are ghosts, this is akin to another form of existence. To avoid being tracked by Dark Night Ghost Emperor and Mu Emperor, we made no stops and returned to Upper Clear Academy at the fastest speed possible.
Upon our return, many people had gathered at Upper Clear Academy, making it quite lively.
As for these individuals, Gu Chen briefly introduced them to me. They were disciples from other branches of the Nine Veins whom he had invited under his name through Mao Guoxue.
