Just a glance through the crack of the door left me stunned by the sight before me.
Outside the gate, illuminated by the moonlight, I saw figures moving in an orderly manner, jumping forward—Jumping Zombies.
I couldn't believe my eyes, and that was precisely what shocked me.
Ordinary White Zombies and Black Zombies couldn't jump; they walked on the ground like normal people.
This meant that all the Zombies before me were Jumping Zombies, just as terrifying as the Cloud Ghost General from before.
The realization hit me like a cold wave, leaving my face pale.
I couldn't handle even one Jumping Zombie, and now there were only Jumping Zombies. If I went out to confront them, it would be nothing short of suicide.
But where did all these Jumping Zombies come from? How could they suddenly appear in our village?
This question filled me with deep confusion, but just then, I suddenly heard a faint sound of bells from outside.
"Something's not right," I muttered under my breath.
My parents were looking at me with tense expressions. They had rushed into the room and closed the door tightly when they saw my face change dramatically, not daring to make a sound.
Hearing me mumble suddenly, my father quietly asked, "Xiao Lin, what exactly did you see?"
I gritted my teeth, my expression serious as I said, "Dad, you all just stay home and don't go out. I'll go take a look."
"I'll go with you," Mu Yan immediately replied.
I frowned slightly and said, "I need to go out and check things. Mu Yan, you should stay home."
"No way," Mu Yan insisted.
My mom quickly added, "That's right, dear. It's so dangerous outside; you should stay here with us."
Although my dad didn't say anything, it was clear he felt the same way, as in their eyes, Mu Yan was just an ordinary girl.
But Mu Yan shook her head, her gaze fixed on me with determination.
I frowned again and said, "I'm just going out to take a look. I'll be back soon. I know you're worried about me, but please stay home and take care of Mom and Dad, okay?"
As I spoke, I glanced at my parents, who were standing beside Mu Yan.
Upon hearing this, Mu Yan lightly bit her lip and fell silent in agreement.
Taking a deep breath, I stuffed the runes into my pocket and grabbed the Peach Wood Sword I had brought back with me before finally opening the door and stepping outside.
"Remember to be careful," Mu Yan called out softly as she took a couple of steps forward to remind me once more.
My parents looked at me with worried expressions. I nodded without saying a word and walked straight to the front door, opening the gate to step outside.
I closed the gate tightly behind me. The crisp sound of bells still drifted in with the wind, floating lightly through the air.
The sound of the bells—where did it come from?
Even a powerful Zombie couldn't ring a bell, which was what had felt off to me earlier. I fell into a brief silence, then followed the sound of the bells as I moved forward.
I tread carefully along the way, trying to minimize the sound of my footsteps. The source of the bell's ringing was getting closer.
I hid behind a wall of a nearby house, peering ahead. There, figures were bouncing forward—those were the jumping corpses.
A quick glance revealed that there were about twenty of them. However, one person stood out; unlike the others who were jumping, this individual walked steadily as if on solid ground.
In the darkness, I couldn't see their face clearly, but one thing was certain: they were definitely alive and someone knowledgeable in Maoshan Techniques.
At that moment, I realized that those Jumping Zombies before me were not true Jumping Zombies; they were likely a group of Walking Dead or White-haired Zombies, merely controlled by this person holding the bell.
This thought brought me some relief.
But just as I relaxed and let my guard down, I suddenly covered my mouth and held my breath, my eyes wide with fear as I looked ahead.
In the darkness, a figure suddenly darted from afar, moving quickly until it appeared in front of the group of Walking Dead that resembled Jumping Zombies, letting out a low growl.
I widened my eyes as I stared at the figure before me; this was the true Jumping Zombie.
At that moment, the person holding the bell turned around, and I finally got a clear look at his face.
It was Yang Yi. Just as the warning from the Hu Family Immortal had foretold, he had indeed come.
However, instead of directly seeking revenge on my family, he had brought along a massive horde of Walking Dead, along with this Jumping Zombie. What could his intentions possibly be?
Unable to comprehend it, I followed behind them, moving forward until we gradually left the village and arrived at the back mountain.
Though it was called a mountain, it was actually a Mound, overgrown with weeds. The area was dotted with mounds of earth, where the elders of our village had been buried.
Once Yang Yi shook the bell and led the Walking Dead here, he came to a halt.
I hid in the grass, too afraid to get too close, watching them from a distance, confused about what he intended to do with a group of Walking Dead in this place.
But soon, I watched in disbelief as all those Walking Dead scattered apart. They picked up long objects from the ground as if they were alive; each one grabbed a stick.
It looked somewhat like bamboo poles. Then I saw Yang Yi mutter an incantation and shake the bell again before pointing around him. Instantly, those Walking Dead sprang into action.
All of them dispersed and approached the graves, driving their bamboo poles forcefully into the ground.
What on earth were they doing?
I was filled with confusion, unaware that a great disaster was quietly descending upon us.
After the Walking Dead inserted bamboo sticks into the graves, Yang Yi once again controlled the Jumping Zombie to jump directly in front of those tombs. It slightly bowed its head and swayed next to the bamboo stick before leaving, then it was on to the next one, and so on.
Once everything was done, the Walking Dead pulled out all the bamboo sticks that had been placed in the graves. At that moment, with a ringing sound from Yang Yi, all the Walking Dead followed behind him as they turned back.
Worried about being discovered by Yang Yi, I quickly held my breath and crouched low in the grass nearby, not daring to make a sound.
When Yang Yi and his group had walked far past me, I finally got up and went to where they had just been to take a closer look.
Without exception, every Tomb had a slender hole left behind, deep and bottomless.
What on earth was he trying to do?
I couldn't figure it out, but by the next day, everything in the village began to change; disaster quietly descended.
I just went out for a bit, and I can't write three chapters today. I'm very tired. I'll make it up to everyone tomorrow. After reading this chapter, everyone should go to bed early. Sorry for the notice.
