Not long after, I felt something scratching my nose, something fluffy and incredibly itchy. Slowly, I opened my eyes, feeling the fatigue and pain throughout my body.
But as soon as I opened my eyes, I was taken aback.
What I saw was beyond my belief.
A figure completely covered in white fur had just been waving its fluffy paw to scratch my nose, waking me up.
And more importantly, it was a Nine-Tailed Fox. A Nine-Tailed Fox!
I was startled, almost reflexively sitting up from the ground.
The little fox seemed frightened and quickly retreated a few steps. Then, its bright little eyes fixed on me, the pupils turning as if it were contemplating something, extremely perceptive.
I gazed at it, momentarily forgetting the fatigue and pain in my body, feeling a surge of excitement.
Nine-Tailed Fox Blood, Demon Fetal Essence, Dragon Blood—only by combining these three could I break the Demon King's Cauldron within me.
And Nine-Tailed Fox Blood was precisely the goal of my journey. But soon, a terrifying figure flashed in my mind—the Great Sage of the Hu Family.
That stunning woman was the ancestor of all foxes, an Immortal of the Hu Family; she was not someone I could provoke.
Looking at the Nine-Tailed Fox before me, I couldn't help but sigh lightly, a hint of helplessness flashing in my eyes.
The Nine-Tailed Fox belonged to the fox clan as well. If I were to take blood from it and that Hu Family Immortal found out, wouldn’t she just have to lift a finger to eliminate me?
So even though the Nine-Tailed Fox was right in front of me, I simply couldn’t make a move.
It seemed as if the creature could read my thoughts. Noticing the helplessness in my eyes, the Nine-Tailed Fox appeared to grow bolder, stepping closer to me.
I couldn't help but chuckle, feeling a bit powerless as I said, "You were the one who woke me up just now."
Upon hearing this, it tilted its little head and nodded in an almost uncanny manner.
I was taken aback by its intelligence. They say foxes are born with charm and are among the most spirited and clever of all animals, and it certainly seemed true.
But suddenly, I furrowed my brow slightly, glancing around and feeling a wave of confusion wash over me.
Where was Yang Yi?
At that moment, I remembered Yang Yi. Where was he?
In the instant I had lost consciousness, I had almost believed that I was doomed and had prepared myself for death.
Yet here I was, inexplicably alive, while Yang Yi had vanished without a trace.
This was all too strange. At this point, I couldn't believe he would have shown me any mercy or left me a way out.
So who exactly saved me?
My gaze shifted back to the lively Nine-Tailed Fox in front of me, and with a hint of amusement, I asked, "Was it you who saved me?"
The Nine-Tailed Fox looked at me, swaying gently behind me. This time, it neither nodded nor shook its head.
I couldn't help but chuckle at myself and lightly shook my head. Although this fox had the Nine-Tails and seemed smarter than others, it didn't appear to have any other special qualities. How could it possibly save me?
Moreover, I was facing Yang Yi, the heir of the Taoist Nine Meridians and the Yang Family lineage.
I thought that even if the Hu Family Immortal, that stunning woman, faced Yang Yi, it wouldn't be easy for her either.
So after smiling, I turned my gaze back to the fox and feigned a fierce expression. "You little fox, first of all, thank you for waking me up. Secondly, you should leave quickly. Otherwise, being as cute as you are and running around everywhere could be very dangerous."
Upon hearing my words, the little fox chirped and rolled its eyes playfully, looking extremely adorable as if it disagreed with me.
I deliberately made a funny face and said, "If you don't leave soon, be careful I might catch you and not let you go."
To my surprise, instead of retreating, the Nine-Tailed Fox took two steps closer to me.
I was momentarily speechless. If it weren't for the Great Sage of the Hu Family, I would have seriously considered capturing it without a second thought.
But after thinking it over, I abandoned that idea and weakly shook my head. "Sigh, I have things to do and don't want to waste time with you. However, you can go find your Great Sage from the Hu Family; she's quite impressive. Staying by her side would definitely be safer than being alone."
Mingyue lay nearby, still unconscious. After saying this, I ignored the little fox and slowly stood up. I walked over to her side and gently shook her while calling her name.
She slowly opened her eyes. When she saw me, her eyes widened in shock before she quickly glanced around in disbelief. "You defeated Yang Yi?"
I shook my head helplessly and said, "No, I underestimated him too much."
"No."
Mingyue furrowed her brows in confusion and asked, "Then what is going on?"
I understood her meaning and shook my head again, saying, "I don't know either. Perhaps someone saved us. When I was unconscious, I vaguely saw a ray of colorful light floating by."
"Colorful light?" Mingyue asked. "What is that?"
I shook my head and replied, "I don't know. I passed out right after that."
As I recounted the events in a simple manner, Mingyue's expression turned grim.
She coldly said, "Don't be so foolish in the future."
I was slightly taken aback and looked down at her, but she turned her gaze elsewhere.
I was a bit surprised; although her words seemed indifferent, they were actually filled with concern. I understood that she was scolding me for returning after I had left.
Feeling a bit awkward, I forced a smile and asked, "How about you? Can you still walk?"
She gently nodded and said, "I can."
She slowly supported herself to stand up, and I quickly helped her.
At that moment, she looked even weaker than I did. Just as she stood up, she almost fell again. I couldn't help but worry about Mu Yan; she might still be waiting for me at the same spot, filled with anxiety and torment.
Time was of the essence. Gritting my teeth, I mustered my courage and placed one of her hands on my shoulder, while my right hand slipped around her back to support her underarm.
Her body stiffened for a moment, seemingly taken aback.
I quickly said, "Let's help each other; this way we can conserve some strength."
She didn't respond verbally but silently nodded.
Yet, I could feel her breathing becoming a bit more rapid.
I felt the same way, especially when my hand inadvertently brushed against the softness beneath her arm, causing my heart to race.
