At first, the child appeared to be only a few months old, noticeably larger than a newborn. But in just a moment, her body began to grow at an astonishing rate. First, she shot up in height, and with each stretch of her limbs, sounds of cracking bones echoed from within her. Then her withered face gradually matured, dark, glossy hair cascading down the sides of her flawless white cheeks. Her chubby little face was filled with smiles as she giggled sweetly, her sparkling big eyes glistening with clarity as they fixed on me, suspended in mid-air. In an instant, she transformed from a newborn into what looked like a five or six-year-old child, her laughter ringing out like crystal bells. This bizarre scene left me completely stunned; I had never witnessed a baby morph into a child so quickly. If this had happened before, I would have found it utterly unbelievable. Yet now, after a brief moment of shock, it seemed somewhat reasonable to me.
Mu Yan was not an ordinary person; she was not even truly alive. Moreover, Mao Shiba had previously speculated that she likely bore the bloodline of a Demon Emperor. As for the Demon Emperor that Mao Shiba referred to, I dared not make any assumptions. However, I felt it must have some connection to the Mu Emperor. But at this moment, those thoughts were far from my immediate concerns. My gaze fell upon the child before me. A girl? This was my child with Mu Yan? I was a father now? After dismissing Gu Chen's earlier warnings, I looked at the fair-skinned little girl with her bright laughter and felt a flicker of joy and excitement on my face. But soon enough, that joy and excitement froze into a stiff expression.
Her innocent face suddenly twisted into something grotesque. With a wave of her small hand, an eerie ghostly energy enveloped her entire being. Her gaze shifted towards the nearby kneeling Wandering Spirits and Wild Ghosts, who trembled even more and buried their heads lower in fear. I gasped in shock as I stared at her pale and menacing face, those dark and sinister eyes piercing through me. Gu Chen's warning echoed in my mind: "The child you have with her is not a living being but rather a Demon Fetus from the underworld, possessing the bloodline of a Demon Emperor. Coupled with the aura of the Demon Emperor within your Demon King's Cauldron, her birth will not be simple; therefore... she must not be allowed to live!"
As that thought struck me, I shuddered involuntarily, my complexion paling. Looking at this newly born little creature before me confirmed Gu Chen's words. For a moment, I felt conflicted but also found it hard to act decisively.
"Judging by her aura, I can assure you that although she has just been born, she has already reached the level of a Ghost King and will likely become a Demon Emperor in no time," Mingyue said gravely behind me.
Her words immediately drew the child's attention. The dark eyes filled with ghostly energy locked onto Mingyue as she let out a sharp shriek and lunged at her like lightning. Mingyue's face turned pale as she hurriedly dodged away. I was taken aback; after regaining my composure, an unnamed fury surged within me as I shouted, "Stop right there!"
Seeing her suddenly transform into this monstrous form had already left me hesitant; Mingyue's words only deepened my shock. Now she was attacking Mingyue for no reason at all—this ignited my anger further. In that moment of rage and confusion over whether she was truly a Ghost King or not, I swung my Peach Wood Sword and turned to strike at her fiercely.
My shout seemed to catch her off guard; she paused mid-air for just an instant. But even though she halted, my Peach Wood Sword did not slow down; it came crashing down upon her.
"Don't..." Mu Yan cried out from the ground but was too late to stop me.
Without question, my Peach Wood Sword struck her body. I stood there stunned as I watched this fierce-looking girl before me—the child I had thought was mine... She did not resist or defend herself against my attack; instead, she allowed the sword to hit her directly. The impact sent her flying backward several feet into the air while wisps of green smoke rose from where she had been struck—evidently causing some damage without any form of retaliation or protection on her part.
She remained suspended in mid-air afterward, glaring at me with resentment in her eyes. I said nothing but continued to stare back at her with mixed emotions.
Mu Yan lay on the ground looking astonished as she gazed at me in disbelief; it seemed unimaginable that I would suddenly attack our child. Mingyue stood beside me on high alert but remained silent as we both fell into a brief silence.
After a moment's pause, the girl finally spoke up again in a voice tinged with coldness that belied her youthful tone: "Are you my father?"
I did not answer but continued to look at her with complex feelings because I was weighing whether or not to follow Gu Chen's advice and eliminate her right then and there. If I did so... could I truly defeat her? After all, despite being newly born, she had already attained Ghost King status! A Ghost King was something beyond my capacity to confront.
Seeing that I remained silent, she continued speaking: "I know you are my father because I can feel our blood connection within you."
I could not deny that I fell silent once more.
After another pause, she asked again: "Do you want to kill me?"
This time my gaze hardened as it met hers directly; taking a deep breath while observing her current state, I declared firmly: "You are a ghost—not human; humans and ghosts walk different paths. You were born possessing the strength of a Ghost King; therefore you cannot be allowed to live."
"Lin Hao... what are you saying? This is our child!" Mu Yan exclaimed in shock as she struggled to rise from the ground and approached me with disbelief etched across her features.
It seemed unfathomable for her to believe such words could come from my mouth or that I would harbor such thoughts in my heart.
With an exasperated sigh, I replied: "This is Master’s warning—and just as he suspected about her."
"I cannot allow personal desires to bring another Ghost King into this world to harm others."
"Lin Hao..." Mu Yan shouted again but was abruptly interrupted.
The girl—this Ghost King flowing with my blood—suddenly spoke up: "Then fine! My life is yours to take; you have one chance to do so right now! Strike! I will not fight back nor evade your attack—but remember this: only this once! If you do not kill me today... then any future attempts will meet with resistance."
Her voice may have been youthful but carried an undeniable weight—each word spoken firmly and resolutely.
Instinctively tightening my grip on the Peach Wood Sword once more while staring intently at her brought forth an intense internal struggle: To slay or spare? If spared today... there would be no second chances afterward! But if killed... when glancing at Mu Yan’s face filled with disbelief yet pleading desperation made it difficult for me to act.
I closed my eyes briefly; when they opened again, after much deliberation—I made an incredibly difficult decision.
Kill!
