Previously, Mingyue had mentioned that the only chance for survival was to find the Hu Family Immortal and plead with her, explaining the relationship between myself and Gu Chen. This might have offered a glimmer of hope, but I never expected her to appear right in front of me without my seeking her out. And she was an extraordinarily beautiful woman, captivating in every way. However, rather than being swayed by her looks, I felt shock and fear at her sudden presence. At that moment, Mingyue referred to her as the Great Sage. If she truly was the Hu Family Immortal, it meant that this stunningly alluring woman before me was a being comparable to the Demon Emperor. Just thinking about the Demon Emperor sent chills down my spine, causing my body to tremble slightly.
She turned her gaze toward Mingyue and casually remarked, "Of course I know you don't have the guts to offend this Immortal; otherwise, you wouldn't still be alive." Her words seemed casual, almost as if carried by a gentle breeze, yet they held an undeniable authority and an aura that demanded respect. Mingyue nodded repeatedly, saying, "Thank you for your mercy, Great Sage. However, I have one more request: please spare the others in this village."
"Reason?" she asked with a smile that seemed effortless. But I noticed Mingyue's body shudder violently, clearly under some immense pressure from this so-called Great Sage. Gritting her teeth, Mingyue finally managed to look at me. Following her gaze, the Hu Family Immortal's eyes fell upon me as well, and she asked with a smile, "Do you have something to say?"
My face turned pale as I felt an overwhelming pressure bearing down on me. I looked at her in terror. The villagers hiding in their homes were also watching with expressions of fear and despair. My voice trembled as I said, "I have nothing to say, but it is against natural law for your kind to prey on them. Knowing this, you not only fail to stop your kin but even support them; surely you will face divine retribution." Although I was terrified, my words came out with righteous indignation as if I had transformed into the embodiment of justice in that moment. After finishing my statement, I gasped for breath due to my fear.
Her autumn-like eyes regarded me as she blinked and asked calmly, "Are you done?"
I replied curtly, "Yes."
She chuckled softly and said, "You dare speak to me like that? Aren't you afraid I'll kill you?"
I answered honestly, "Yes, I'm afraid—terrified even—but will you let me go if I don't speak?"
"Not necessarily," she replied with a teasing smile.
I said defiantly, "Stop fooling around; I've said all I need to say. If you want to kill me or cut me up, go ahead—I'm not going to fight back."
"Please show mercy, Great Sage; he means no offense," Mingyue interjected anxiously as she saw the smile fade from the Hu Family Immortal's face.
The Hu Family Immortal ignored Mingyue and stepped closer to me. Instinctively, I took a step back and pulled out several talismans from my pocket while keeping a wary eye on her. Though I had challenged her earlier, if she truly intended to kill me, I wasn't going to sit idly by.
She scolded me sharply: "You are overestimating yourself." Clenching my teeth in silence, I continued to stare at her. To my surprise, after taking two steps forward, she stopped and looked at the villagers hiding behind me before asking slowly, "Do you want to save them?"
I was taken aback; I hadn't expected such a question from her. Confused, I replied, "Aren't you here to kill me?"
"Answer my question," she said coldly.
Though her tone was indifferent, I sensed no immediate threat from her now and felt a bit more courageous. After considering my words carefully, I said, "It's not that I want to save them; I'm not capable of that."
"What do you want then?" she asked again.
Taking a deep breath, I replied earnestly: "I want to ask you to spare their lives; these are dozens of lives! Can you really bear to do this?" She gazed deeply at me before shaking her head: "Young man, you're still naive; let this Immortal enlighten you today."
She continued: "The world is vast and boundless; countless beings exist within it. Every day they engage in slaughter—including humans." As she spoke again with intensity while looking at me closely before pointing at the villagers behind me: "You say Fox Demons eat people out of cruelty; but ask yourself what they do every day?"
In an instant, her tone turned icy as an invisible pressure radiated from her presence that nearly suffocated me. My face drained of color as my legs weakened beneath me. The truth hit hard: there was a reason for the Fox Demons' actions! The cycle of cause and effect—it could be seen as retribution.
At that moment, despair washed over me as I glanced at the villagers with hopelessness etched on my face.
"Are you no longer pleading for them?" she asked coldly again.
I had no words left in response. Yet she did not relent; instead she shifted her gaze toward me with a chilling intensity: "Don't tell me that person whom even I cannot offend is you; if that's true then I'll personally end your life." The stark contrast between her cold glare filled with murderous intent and the seductive charm she had displayed earlier was strikingly vivid.
