When I heard that roar, my entire body trembled, and I looked at Gu Chen in disbelief. What shocked me even more was that the roar had come from Gu Chen's mouth. What was happening? How could my master produce such a sound? It was nothing like a normal human voice; it was hoarse, deep, and carried a brutal ferocity.
What was even more terrifying was that after this roar, I saw Gu Chen undergo a transformation. His eyes turned blood red, as if they were filled with blood, his gaze icy and his expression fierce, emanating an aura of savage brutality. He looked like a wild beast standing before us instead of Gu Chen. I was filled with shock and confusion as I turned to Xiao Juan. Although Xiao Juan furrowed her brow tightly, she seemed to understand something but couldn't explain it to me, only signaling for me to stay calm.
Mingyue remained indifferent, observing the situation without much reaction. Only Jin Zhongyun shared my astonishment; it was clear that he too was filled with curiosity. "What is that?" Mu Emperor exclaimed in surprise, halting his movements, clearly shaken by Gu Chen's sudden change.
"It seems like a kindred spirit, but his aura is quite sinister," the Dark Night Ghost Emperor said in a deep tone, equally puzzled. Mu Emperor nodded slightly but showed no signs of fear toward Gu Chen's transformation; he merely said lightly, "Whatever it is, let's take him down first." With that, he charged at Gu Chen with incredible speed, throwing a punch aimed directly at his face.
The Dark Night Ghost Emperor also let out a cold snort and unleashed a wave of Ghostly Energy that enveloped the area. At this moment, Gu Chen did not dodge; he stood his ground with a fierce expression and cold eyes fixed on Mu Emperor and the Dark Night Ghost Emperor's swirling Ghostly Energy, a strange smile curling at the corners of his mouth.
Seeing Gu Chen like this made me frown deeply, filled with questions. Especially after hearing Mu Emperor and the Dark Night Ghost Emperor's words, I felt even more confused. From their comments, it was almost easy to deduce that something must have possessed Gu Chen, just like Mingyue's grandfather. But what exactly had taken hold of Gu Chen to make him exude such terrifying ferocity?
Soon enough, Mu Emperor's punch struck towards Gu Chen's face with alarming force. Yet Gu Chen remained rooted in place without any intention of dodging; he simply extended one hand to block the attack. My heart screamed for him to retreat—quickly! That punch seemed beyond what any normal person could withstand, but I overlooked one crucial detail: Gu Chen was not an ordinary person.
With a loud thud that sounded like hitting steel, Mu Emperor staggered back several steps from the impact of Gu Chen's casual block, his expression turning grim. Although Gu Chen also took a few steps back, this scene left me deeply shocked yet relieved.
Just as I steadied myself, a wave of Ghostly Energy surged towards us. We then witnessed Gu Chen throwing punch after punch into the towering black mist before him, each strike producing deep thuds as the black mist rolled and churned violently before being pushed aside.
"Hmph." Both the Dark Night Ghost Emperor and Mu Emperor let out cold snorts simultaneously; it was evident they sensed that whatever was within Gu Chen was not simple at all. After their disdainful sounds faded away, Mingyue's grandfather suddenly collapsed weakly to the ground. From his body emerged a vague figure; looking from a distance, I guessed this must be the true form of Mu Emperor—the Demon Emperor!
Once he transformed into his true self, an ominous Ghostly Energy surrounded him like black fog as it enveloped Gu Chen. The mist thickened rapidly until our vision turned pitch black; all we could see was endless darkness filled with chilling sounds resembling muffled thunder and furious roars.
Though we were not far away from the chaos, we could see nothing outside; every muffled sound and furious roar tugged at our hearts with worry. Yet there was nothing we could do; we dared not step outside nor knew what awaited us beyond. Except for Gu Chen, none of us could face the Demon Emperor—let alone two of them.
Suddenly, another deep rumble echoed through the air—this one even more profound than before—before plunging into brief silence. What happened? Had the battle ceased? Did my master win or had those two Demon Emperors... I dared not think further but craned my neck forward, widening my eyes in hopes of catching a glimpse of light amidst the darkness.
Slowly, just as we were all growing increasingly anxious, the thick black mist began to dissipate gradually. After about ten seconds, the darkness cleared away like water being swallowed by a whale; aside from two indistinct figures surrounded by flickering Ghostly Energy nearby, everything else had been drawn back into Mu Emperor and Dark Night Ghost Emperor's bodies.
They stood not far ahead side by side, their bodies radiating Ghostly Energy like demonic gods—but where was Gu Chen? Where had he gone? As soon as we could see again, panic spread among us—not just me but also Xiao Juan and Mingyue and Jin Zhongyun. Without Gu Chen as our pillar of support, we had no idea what to do next.
Suddenly our gazes converged on one direction—beside Mu Yan's corpse—where a deep pit had been smashed into the rock wall. There lay Gu Chen’s figure embedded within it like an art piece—a perfect yet shocking image that filled us with dread and concern because it appeared that Gu Chen had been injured. A large pool of blood lay before him staining his clothes crimson while his face looked pale and drenched in sweat.
"Master!" I could no longer contain myself or hide away like a coward in this circle. The reason for Gu Chen’s condition lay entirely on my shoulders; even if rushing out meant death for me—so be it! I couldn’t care less anymore—I shouted and dashed out into view of both Demon Emperors.
"Oh? It's this kid," one of them remarked in surprise.
