I turned my gaze to the figure before me, He Si. Aside from his appearance, he bore no resemblance to the He Si I knew; his mannerisms and speech were vastly different.
At that moment, I realized that there was no escaping today.
With Mingyue gone, only Xiao Juan and I remained in the room, yet before this version of He Si, we had no means of resistance.
Any struggle would be futile.
I couldn't help but let out a wry smile. Strangely enough, having reached this point, I found myself less afraid, calmly looking at him.
He regarded me with indifference, seemingly surprised, and spoke in a chilling tone, "You don't seem afraid."
I shook my head and replied, "I am afraid—very afraid. But what does that matter? Just because I'm scared of you doesn’t mean you’ll let me go. I think that’s impossible."
He smiled, though it felt cold and somewhat sinister. Yet he couldn't help but commend me, saying, "You're right. Regardless of whether you're afraid or not, I will take you with me today. Without her, no one can save you."
As he spoke the last part, he turned to glance at Mingyue, who looked pale and dejected. It was clear that the "her" he referred to was Mingyue.
This was an undeniable fact.
Seeing that I remained silent, he continued, "But you don’t need to worry too much. I'm only taking you away; perhaps I won’t kill you—at least not right now."
I let out a bitter laugh. Not now, but what about later?
I looked at him, my mind racing to understand one thing: who exactly was he?
So I furrowed my brow and asked, "You’re not He Si, but who are you?"
"Who am I?"
He smiled coldly and said, "After you come with me, perhaps you'll find out."
I took a deep breath, no longer speaking. There was no way out in front of me; I had no choice. The only option was to follow him.
I turned around and looked back at Xiao Juan, my tone softening as a hint of gratitude appeared on my face. "Thank you for your care and help during this time. Please also thank Master and Uncle Zhou for risking themselves to help me time and again, and He Si, the real He Si."
After saying that, I hesitated no longer and didn’t give Xiao Juan a chance to respond. I abruptly turned around because the fake He Si in front of me seemed to have lost patience. He was now only a few steps away from me and took another step forward.
As he approached, an unexpected event suddenly occurred when he was just three steps away from me.
Originally standing behind me, Xiao Juan suddenly stepped forward again, blocking my path and pushing me behind her.
"Xiao Juan, what are you doing?" I couldn't help but exclaim in surprise.
I thought Xiao Juan was trying to protect me, but the He Si before us was not someone she could withstand. He was like Mingyue, from the same Exiled Ridge Lineage. Not only was he skilled in martial arts, but he also possessed immense strength.
And what about Xiao Juan?
From what I knew about her, although she came from the Taoist Nine Meridians, she only understood a bit of the superficial Maoshan Techniques and hadn’t grasped much of Grandma Jiang's Gu Technique.
The gap between them was vast; they were simply not on the same level. How could she possibly stand against this fake He Si, who could rival Mingyue?
But Xiao Juan didn’t pay any attention to me. Her movements were too swift for me to react in time.
Even the fake He Si in front of me seemed taken aback that someone dared to suddenly rush up to him at this moment.
Moreover, he never expected that this seemingly weak girl standing in his way would end his life.
At the same time that Xiao Juan stepped in front of me, a chilling wind seemed to sweep by.
No, it was a shadow. Although the light was dim, I could still see it vaguely.
And within that shadow, there appeared to be two flickering green lights.
I quickly shone my flashlight in that direction, but the shadow moved too fast.
It was so quick that my reaction couldn't keep up; by the time the light reached it, the blurry figure had already vanished.
However, the fake He Si suddenly widened his eyes. He clutched his throat with both hands, and his face turned an ashen gray.
Ghostly Gu Worm.
A sudden realization struck me; that shadow that had appeared out of nowhere must have been Grandma Jiang's treasure, the Ghostly Gu Worm.
In that critical moment, Xiao Juan had released it.
So as I processed this, I turned my gaze toward Xiao Juan.
At that moment, she also took a few steps back and stood beside me. Feeling my gaze, she looked over and nodded at me.
Without needing to ask further or waiting for her response, I simply nodded lightly and instantly understood; it was indeed the Ghostly Gu Worm.
However, as I looked ahead, the Ghostly Gu Worm had already vanished.
Where did it go?
I turned my gaze back to Xiao Juan, revealing my confusion.
“It’s inside his body,” Xiao Juan pointed at the fake He Si in front of us.
“What? Inside his body?” I trembled at her words, disbelief written all over my face.
Xiao Juan nodded again. “Yes, it’s inside his body.”
I frowned slightly and asked, “You used the Ghostly Gu Worm against him?”
Xiao Juan nodded. A sense of worry crept into my heart as I asked, “How confident do you feel about this?”
Xiao Juan shook her head, sounding uncertain. “I don’t know either. What else can we do? Should I just stand by and watch you go to your death with him?”
I nodded; her words left me speechless, unsure how to respond.
Yet, I felt a flicker of warmth in my heart.
“Look!”
Suddenly, Xiao Juan exclaimed in surprise, pointing at the fake He Si.
I instantly looked up, only to see that the fake He Si's stomach had suddenly been torn open, and a terrifying, fierce head began to emerge from within.
The head resembled that of the Ghostly Gu Worm, with features like a snake's head yet reminiscent of a dragon's.
I stared in shock at this horrifying scene as the entire body of the Ghostly Gu Worm gradually wriggled out from inside him.
As it emerged, pairs of bare feet continuously tore open the fake He Si's belly.
They even pulled out broken intestines and internal organs from within him.
It was a disgusting sight that made me want to vomit, yet I couldn't look away.
Then, something even more unexpected happened. As the Ghostly Gu Worm writhed, the body of this He Si began to convulse violently, his face contorting.
The distortion was terrifying, but gradually his face transformed into that of another person.
This face no longer belonged to He Si; it belonged to Big Head, the one from the Mu Family.
