"Bright Moon"
"How is it you?"
Upon seeing who this person was, I was instantly filled with surprise and confusion as I looked at her.
She did not speak, merely directing her gaze toward Gu Chen and calmly said, "The boat is just ahead, it’s ready."
Gu Chen nodded and replied, "Thank you for your help."
This only deepened my confusion. From the exchange between Gu Chen and Bright Moon, it was clear that he had known she would be here in advance.
Zhou Zhen seemed to share this knowledge as well; his expression did not reflect the same bewilderment that I and Xiao Juan felt.
However, when I turned my gaze to the person standing next to Bright Moon, I furrowed my brow again and asked, "Who is this?"
He looked somewhat different from us but was exceptionally handsome, exuding an air of elegance as he stood quietly beside Bright Moon.
Noticing my gaze on him, he stepped forward and extended a hand politely, saying, "Hello, my name is Jin Zhongyun, a friend of Bright Moon."
He spoke in slightly stiff Mandarin but glanced at Bright Moon when he mentioned her name.
I frowned slightly and shook his hand, responding politely, "Hello, I’m Lin Hao."
Curiosity got the better of me as I asked, "Aren't you Chinese?"
He gently shook his head, disregarding my question, then released my hand without saying more.
Xiao Juan stood beside me, initially startled by the sudden appearance of two people in front of us. However, upon recognizing Mingyue, her expression clearly soured.
She even pouted and muttered under her breath, "She just won't go away, always following us."
Of course, Mingyue ignored Xiao Juan's grumbling and turned to walk ahead after speaking.
Gu Chen said nothing and followed suit. I felt a bit puzzled and asked, "Uncle Zhou, how did Mingyue end up here? And who is that guy with her? Do you know?"
Zhou Zhen nodded slightly and whispered, "Mingyue chased after us last night, so we arranged to meet here today. As for that guy, I think he's Korean; he's her admirer."
"Oh, I see." I nodded slightly, understanding the situation.
"So that guy is her admirer? He’s quite handsome," Xiao Juan chimed in with a chuckle.
"Enough chatter; let’s keep moving forward," Zhou Zhen reminded us.
I quickly nodded and glanced back, only to feel a shiver run down my spine. Behind us was an expanse of darkness, eerie and foreboding, especially with the sight of coffins that sent chills through me. I hurriedly quickened my pace to catch up with Gu Chen and the others.
Xiao Juan did the same, hastening her steps.
Yet I still felt a bit confused. Mingyue had mentioned that the boat was ready; what did she mean by that?
Could there be a waterway in this cave?
But seeing that no one was speaking at the moment, I decided not to ask further questions. Soon enough, my curiosity was alleviated as we walked for several more minutes and found ourselves at a dead end.
When the flashlight illuminated the area ahead, it revealed shimmering reflections on the surface of water. Aside from the rocky walls on either side, all I could see was still water emanating a faint chill.
How could there be water here?
And what is this cave for? Why is it so deep?
A multitude of questions arose in my mind.
At that moment, Gu Chen said, "There are boats prepared ahead. Everyone, get on the boat and move forward."
Zhou Zhen nodded, while Mingyue and the one called Jin Zhongyun remained silent. Xiao Juan frowned slightly.
I directly asked, "Master, how deep is this cave? Is Mu Yan really inside?"
Gu Chen glanced at me without responding, only giving a slight nod.
But I was filled with confusion. Who brought Mu Yan here? The grandfather mentioned by Big Head from the Mu Family?
Without speaking, I shone my flashlight ahead and noticed two small boats bobbing on the water's surface. Although the cave wasn't very wide, it was spacious enough to accommodate them.
Zhou Zhen, Gu Chen, and Mingyue had already boarded one of the boats. Xiao Juan was behind me and, seeing me still standing there in a daze, gave me a gentle push and said, "What are you thinking? Hurry up!"
I finally responded with a sound and moved forward.
The boats weren't very large, so they had limited weight capacity. Xiao Juan, Gu Chen, and I were in one boat, while Zhou Zhen was with Mingyue and Jin Zhongyun in another.
"Row the boat."
After boarding, Gu Chen stood at the front of our boat, his gaze fixed ahead as he spoke calmly.
I nodded and then placed everything onto the boat. Grabbing two wooden planks from the vessel, I began to glide forward gently. As our boat moved ahead, Jin Zhongyun's boat followed closely behind.
However, we hadn't gone far when Xiao Juan suddenly said, "It's so cold."
I nodded; the temperature here truly made one feel chilled to the bone.
Using the light from the lantern, I looked ahead, still unsure how far this waterway would take us.
At that moment, Gu Chen remarked lightly, "This water should be connected to the lake outside the cave."
I nodded slightly, finally understanding why the lake's water felt so cold.
"Lin Hao, do you feel like something is off?"
Suddenly, not long after we started moving forward, Xiao Juan, sitting beside me, whispered.
I asked curiously what was wrong.
She shook her head and said she couldn't quite explain it but felt a bit uneasy.
"It's the smell of decay," Gu Chen stated calmly.
The smell of decay.
Hearing this, I was instantly alarmed and began to scan my surroundings anxiously.
Just then, I caught a glimpse of something dark flashing in the water ahead and exclaimed in shock, "What was that?"
"A water ghost, it must be a water ghost."
At that moment, Xiao Juan clearly saw the dark shadow beneath the water surface ahead and exclaimed, though she did not appear as panicked as I was.
She was Grandma Jiang's granddaughter, hailing from the Taoist Nine Meridians. Although she didn't know much about Maoshan Techniques, her experience in these matters far surpassed mine.
A water ghost was not enough to scare her.
However, just as her voice fell, her expression suddenly turned extremely grim, and she stood up abruptly from the boat.
"What’s happening?"
I was first startled by Xiao Juan's sudden movement, and then my gaze shifted to the water surface, which had suddenly become chaotic.
The originally calm water surface now erupted with huge bubbles, as if boiling like water in a pot.
Just as I was in a state of panic, a hand suddenly reached out from the water surface, grabbing my rowing arm and pulling me down into the water.
