A casual glance startled me, and without thinking much, I pulled Xiao Juan's arm forcefully backward.
Xiao Juan was suddenly yanked down onto the bed, and due to the excessive force, I lost my balance and fell onto the bed as well, landing right on top of Xiao Juan.
With my body pressed tightly against hers, we both froze in shock, staring at each other.
Our eyes met, and I could feel her heartbeat racing beneath me. She stared at me with her Sparkling Big Eyes, her small chest rising and falling rapidly, as if we had both short-circuited for a moment.
Then she suddenly pushed me off her, and I couldn't tell if it was out of shyness or anger. Her face flushed red as she exclaimed, “Lin Hao, how dare you take advantage of me right after we just met!”
Her shout snapped me back to reality. I quickly turned around, pointing in terror toward the door of the room and stammered, “No, Xiao Juan, it’s because—”
“Hey, where did it go?” I looked toward the door and let out a soft gasp, furrowing my brow slightly.
“What’s missing? You mean that thing?” Xiao Juan said as she pointed behind me.
I frowned slightly and turned around, only to be startled again. I jumped up with a loud “Ah!”
Xiao Juan laughed cheerfully, “You’re so timid! It’s not like you’ve never seen it before. Do you think it can eat you?”
At that moment, Gu Chen and Zhou Zhen, who were in the next room, must have heard my scream or perhaps Anfu had notified them because they rushed over.
As soon as they entered the room and saw what was in front of them, Gu Chen couldn't help but scold, “What nonsense! Put that thing away!”
Having known Gu Chen since childhood, Xiao Juan immediately wilted when she saw his stern face. She pouted but obediently whistled toward the corner behind me.
Suddenly, I stood there, feeling a cold breeze sweep past me. The next moment, when I turned to look, the terrifying Fellow that had just been floating in the corner behind me had vanished.
I glanced at Xiao Juan, who was now screwing the lid back onto a small jade bottle she held in front of her.
I said, bewildered, "Xiao Juan, why did you bring Grandma Jiang's Ghostly Gu Worm?"
She replied irritably, "How else would I help you find someone?"
"Using it to find Fourth Brother?" I frowned and asked.
"Of course," Xiao Juan said matter-of-factly.
Gu Chen walked over to the bed with his hands behind his back and looked at Xiao Juan, asking, "Why didn't Grandma Jiang come?"
Xiao Juan obediently replied, "Grandma is getting old and said it's inconvenient for her to travel, so she asked me to bring her treasure instead."
Upon hearing this, Gu Chen nodded and said, "That's true. But having this worm is just as good."
Xiao Juan didn't say anything further but shot me a fierce glare. However, one thing she didn't mention was that it wasn't just Grandma Jiang's age that prevented her from coming; it was that she stubbornly insisted on dragging Grandma Jiang along with her.
At that moment, Zhou Zhen glanced at the small jade bottle around Xiao Juan's neck and turned to Gu Chen, asking, "Senior Gu, when are we going to find He Si?"
Gu Chen frowned slightly, thought for a moment, and said, "Let's wait until after dark. This thing is a bit too frightening; it wouldn't be convenient to take it out during the day."
Hearing this, we all nodded in agreement.
The Ghostly Gu Worm had a snake-like body, centipede-like legs, and a head that was terrifying—neither resembling a snake nor a dragon. Its entire body was covered in Scale Armor, making it look grotesque and fierce. If anyone were to see it during the day, they would surely be scared to death.
Even though I had seen it before, the sight still startled me half to death.
After lingering for a while, it was almost noon. Regardless, Xiao Juan was a guest who had come from afar, so we had to treat her well. Following Gu Chen's suggestion, we went out for a nice meal.
After lunch, Gu Chen told us to rest well and mentioned that we would head out at night to search for He Si.
He also arranged a separate room for Xiao Juan, but she stubbornly insisted on staying in my room, clinging to me for the entire afternoon.
She claimed that I had deliberately pressed down on her in the morning to take advantage of her and pretended to be scared by the Ghostly Gu Worm.
I was at a loss for words and couldn't help but give her a disdainful glance as I said, "Do you really think I'm that sleazy in your eyes?"
With her Sparkling Big Eyes fixed on me, she lay on the bed with her chin resting on her hands and chuckled, "Yes, you are just so dull and lewd."
I was left speechless and rolled my eyes at her, choosing to ignore her.
Thus, I was stuck with her for the entire afternoon until Gu Chen and Zhou Zhen came looking for me. Gu Chen then said we would leave when it got dark and suggested I go buy some simple takeout since the hotel food was not only expensive but also terrible.
I nodded in agreement. Xiao Juan insisted on coming with me, so we left the hotel together to get takeout.
Not far from the hotel were several fast-food restaurants of varying sizes. The prices were reasonable, and the food looked decent—truly good value for money.
We casually picked a restaurant that seemed nice and went inside to order a few dishes. I told Xiao Juan to wait there for a moment while I pointed to a nearby convenience store and said I would go buy a pack of cigarettes.
Xiao Juan nodded and told me to hurry up. That affectionate look sent a chill down my spine; if someone didn’t know better, they might think we were a couple.
I went to the convenience store and bought a pack of cigarettes. After stepping outside, I lowered my head to light one. But when I looked up, my brow furrowed slightly at what I saw ahead.
About ten meters in front of me stood a figure that felt eerily familiar. The silhouette looked somewhat like He Si.
However, since he was facing away from me, I couldn't be sure, which left me puzzled.
After He Si called for help, his phone had been unreachable. Based on our speculation, there was only one conclusion: something had happened to He Si.
So it was impossible for He Si to be here. Shaking my head, I thought I must have mistaken someone else for him.
But just as I was about to turn around to find Xiao Juan, the figure in front of me suddenly turned around. At that moment, his face was directed towards me, and upon seeing him, I froze completely.
"He Si."
My brow instantly knitted together in disbelief, and even the cigarette I had been holding fell from my mouth in shock.
Yet He Si seemed not to notice me at all; his expression was somewhat panicked as he turned away and quickened his pace.
I was momentarily stunned and didn’t have time to call out to Xiao Juan. Instead, I hurriedly shouted and began to chase after him.
The more I chased, the stranger it became; He Si seemed to run even faster, looking extremely anxious.
This puzzled me greatly. Could it be that He Si was truly in danger or that someone was chasing him, causing him to panic like this?
As I pursued him, I kept glancing back over my shoulder and around me, but aside from some pedestrians, I didn’t spot anyone suspicious.
I didn't think much of it at the time; we had come here specifically to find him, and he was right in front of me. I had to catch up with him.
But as I chased after him, I suddenly realized that there were no other people around, and ahead of me, He Si had strangely vanished.
What was going on? He Si had just been right in front of me.
I stood there for a moment, my face filled with disbelief.
Suddenly, I felt someone appear behind me. I turned around like lightning, and a face suddenly appeared before me, staring at me with eyes that sent a chill down my spine.
It was He Si.
