I didn't know how to describe the horror and eeriness of the scene. A person was clearly alive, wide-eyed, yet they could be so terrifying, even more so than those who were already dead.
The sight was utterly inhuman.
The floor of the room was drenched in blood, pooling everywhere. In some places, it had already dried, while in others, it remained a vivid red, filling the air with a nauseating stench of blood.
All that blood had flowed from a single person's eyes, and this person was very much alive.
With a Withered Face, their flesh had sunken deeply into their cheekbones, and their body was so emaciated it seemed like skin stretched over bones.
They sat there, wide-eyed, quietly perched on a recliner in the center of the room. Those eyes had sunk deeply into their sockets but were continuously leaking streams of blood.
The sight indeed resembled crying, an indescribable blend of eeriness and terror.
At that moment, Heizi ran over to me and asked, "Isn't it frightening?"
I nodded without speaking; this was no longer just frightening—it was downright horrifying.
Noticing my distress, Chen Sheng asked if I was okay and suggested that Heizi take me away to rest somewhere else.
I shook my head and said I would wait for Zhou Zhen to come out first.
I had no idea what Zhou Zhen was feeling inside; he hadn’t come out yet. After throwing up, I decided to just stand at the door and wait for him.
About ten minutes later, Zhou Zhen finally emerged from the room, and those guarding the door quickly shut it behind him.
I thought to myself, isn’t this just confinement?
But upon reflection, it made sense. In such a state, if he suddenly appeared before someone at midnight, it would surely terrify them.
When I saw Zhou Zhen walk out with a furrowed brow as if deep in thought, I hurriedly approached him and asked, “Uncle Zhou, did you find out anything?”
Chen Sheng and Heizi walked over with curious expressions. They both knew that Zhou Zhen understood Mausoleum Taoism, so they thought, like I did, that Zhou Zhen would surely be able to discern something.
But strangely, Zhou Zhen frowned and shook his head, saying he couldn't see anything at all.
I furrowed my brow slightly, thinking that this couldn't be possible.
I tentatively asked, "Uncle Zhou, could it be that he's possessed?"
"Yes, he is indeed possessed," Zhou Zhen nodded and replied calmly.
Since he was possessed, I was puzzled as to why Zhou Zhen had just said he couldn't see anything.
Chen Sheng and Heizi also looked confused and asked, "Master Zhou, do you think he encountered a ghost or is being haunted?"
As they spoke, Chen Sheng and Heizi lowered their voices, glancing around nervously before looking toward the house again, seemingly apprehensive.
Zhou Zhen shook his head. He seemed about to speak but hesitated.
This made me anxious, and I couldn't help but say, "Come on, Uncle Zhou, stop keeping us in suspense. Just tell us what's going on."
Zhou Zhen sighed and said, "From his current condition, it's impossible for him to be possessed; otherwise, how could he be so quiet?"
"Yes, that's true."
Zhou Zhen's words made Chen Sheng, Heizi, and me nod in agreement.
Then Zhou Zhen continued, "Moreover, even if he did encounter a ghost without being possessed..."
"No Entry."
Both Uncle Zhou and I frowned simultaneously, instinctively sensing that the place was far from ordinary.
"Yes, it's those four words: No Entry."
Chen Sheng continued, "At that time, I found it strange, but I didn't pay much attention to it. Besides, the weeds in that area were much thicker than in other places. It was difficult to walk through, so I had someone clear a path and advised them not to go in there."
As he spoke, Chen Sheng's brow furrowed slightly, and he looked at Heizi with some confusion. "But Heizi, didn’t you all listen to me? What happened with Xiao Gao?"
Xiao Gao's full name was Gao Damin, but everyone preferred to call him Xiao Gao. He was the one whose eyes were bleeding.
Heizi immediately felt a bit wronged and said, "You can't blame me for this; he insisted on going in."
"Heizi, be more specific," Uncle Zhou interjected after glancing at Chen Sheng.
Chen Sheng nodded slightly, his tone softening as he gestured for Heizi to continue. Heizi then explained, "We were getting off work and preparing to head back when Xiao Gao said he was in a hurry and couldn't hold it anymore. He saw that the grass over there was tall and quite secluded, so he hid behind it to relieve himself."
Heizi shrugged his shoulders and added, "Then after we came back that night, this kind of thing happened."
"Master Zhou, what do you think?" After Heizi finished speaking, Chen Sheng sighed and looked at Zhou Zhen again.
Zhou Zhen didn't say much but furrowed his brow slightly and replied, "That place definitely has issues. If it's not too far, take me to have a look."
Heizi responded, "It's not far; it should take about ten to twenty minutes to get there."
Zhou Zhen nodded and said, "Then let's go take a look."
"Alright then, Heizi, you take Master Zhou to check it out," Chen Sheng said eagerly.
Heizi, somewhat unwillingly, said, "Boss, it's already dark, and that place is so eerie. I really don't want to go."
"Come on, Heizi, look at your cowardice. When I tell you to go, you just go. Are you trying to bargain with me?" Chen Sheng snapped back irritably.
It was clear that the place exuded an unsettling aura. Not just Heizi; even I wouldn't feel comfortable going there if someone randomly asked me to.
At that moment, Zhou Zhen offered some reassurance, "Just lead us there. I only want to take a look, and then we'll come back."
Heizi still seemed a bit uneasy and asked, "Just lead the way?"
Zhou Zhen confirmed, "Just lead the way."
Finally, Heizi nodded and said, "Alright then, follow me."
With that, Heizi took the lead. Zhou Zhen grabbed my arm and started walking. I quickly protested, "Uncle Zhou, you can go without me. I’m not going."
Zhou Zhen looked at me in disbelief and replied irritably, "What are you going to do here if you don’t go?"
I shook my head; it didn’t matter what I did. There was no way I was going to that creepy place.
But in the end, I couldn't withstand Zhou Zhen's insistence. He said that Senior Gu Chen had asked him to bring me along for the sake of gaining experience. Now that we had this opportunity to learn something new, it would be a shame not to take it.
Reluctantly, I was dragged along with Zhou Zhen as we followed Heizi.
In the night, apart from the dim moonlight, everything around us was pitch black and desolate. The chilling wind made both me and Heizi shiver involuntarily.
Fortunately, having Zhou Zhen with us gave me a bit more courage.
We didn't walk very fast; after about twenty minutes or so, Heizi finally stopped and pointed into the distance. "There! That half-broken stone tablet is right over there."
"Where?"
Uncle Zhou and I frowned slightly at the same time.
"There." Heizi pointed ahead again.
Squinting our eyes, Uncle Zhou and I carefully examined the area illuminated by the moonlight, and we finally noticed that at least a few hundred meters ahead, the place seemed different from the surroundings.
The weeds there were much denser and taller than those nearby, appearing particularly distinct under the moonlight.
"Let's go take a look," Uncle Zhou said lightly, and with that, he started walking forward.
Heizi shrank back in fear and said, "You can go if you want; I'm not going."
I didn't want to go either; I felt a bit scared. Yet, I couldn't resist the curiosity bubbling within me.
After hesitating for a moment, I hurriedly followed in Zhou Zhen's footsteps and moved forward.
Do you want to know what that place is and what secrets it holds? Then come along with me as we charge ahead.
