I don't understand the so-called Seven Fiends Soul Locking Formation at all, but I believe Mao Guoxue and Grandma Jiang must have figured it out long ago.
They just didn't say anything about it. Zhou Zhen, on the other hand, was much weaker than Mao Guoxue and the others, so it took him some time to notice the flaws.
He was suddenly alarmed because Mu Yan was trapped in the Seven Fiends Soul Locking Formation.
Upon hearing this, my expression changed dramatically, and I quickly looked toward the area shrouded by dozens of Blue Runes.
But apart from a series of blurry afterimages, I couldn't find Mu Yan anywhere.
I anxiously turned to Zhou Zhen and asked, "Uncle Zhou, where is Mu Yan? Why can't I see her? What’s happening to her?"
Zhou Zhen fixed his gaze ahead, his face looking somewhat grim as he replied, "She's fine for now; you don't need to worry too much."
I nodded but still felt anxious because from Zhou Zhen's expression, I could tell that Mu Yan's situation was definitely not as easy as he claimed.
I looked at Mao Guoxue and Grandma Jiang, my voice tinged with urgency as I said, "Second Uncle, Grandma Jiang, please hurry and save Mu Yan!"
Grandma Jiang let out a muffled grunt and ignored me. Mao Guoxue glanced at me and nodded slightly before turning his gaze back to Yang Yi. "Yang Yi, why don’t you dispel the formation and let her out?"
Yang Yi shot us a deep look, his tone somber as he said, "She’s a ghost. I'm subduing demons; why should I let her go?"
Mao Guoxue immediately shouted angrily, "Even if she is a ghost, she poses no harm to anyone. Besides, she is a friend of Xiao Lin."
"Hmph! A ghost is a ghost. Humans and ghosts are on different paths; how could they possibly be friends? You should all just go back and not worry about me." Despite being caught red-handed, Yang Yi clearly did not want to back down.
Grandma Jiang was getting angry too; she couldn't help but mutter at Yang Yi, "How did our Taoist Nine Meridians end up with someone like you?"
"Grandma Jiang, what do you mean by that?" Yang Yi's face darkened instantly, his tone turning cold.
Grandma Jiang replied, "What do you think I mean? Don’t you understand?"
Mao Guoxue snorted coldly and said, "Yang Yi, considering our years of friendship and our shared affiliation with the Taoist Nine Meridians, you should release her and then hand over that Zombie for us to burn. We can let this matter go; I have no desire to fight you."
Yang Yi raised an eyebrow slightly and replied, "You’ve concluded that I am the Mysterious Man in Black solely based on this black robe on the ground?"
At that moment, I could no longer hold back and quickly interjected, "I saw a figure in black enter your room last night. However, they moved so fast that I couldn't see clearly."
"You were spying on me," Yang Yi said, his expression turning cold.
I remained silent, glaring at him in anger.
I was indeed furious. If it weren't for coming to Jintan with Zhou Zhen and Mao Shiba, I would have never heard of Yang Yi, let alone have any interaction with him.
Yet this very person had cast a curse on me and repeatedly tried to take away the Cloud Ghost General who wanted to harm me. I even suspected he was the one who turned the Cloud Ghost General into a Zombie.
Seeing that Yang Yi was still unwilling to back down, Mao Guoxue sighed and said, "Yang Yi, stop being stubborn. Even if you truly obtained the energy from the Demon King's Cauldron within Xiaolin, what good will it do? You will still face corresponding retribution."
"You already know everything," Yang Yi did not respond directly but frowned slightly.
Mao Guoxue nodded and said, "I sent Shiba to your room; he has already found the Scarecrow you used for your spell."
Upon hearing this, Yang Yi's face fell in frustration as he sighed, "Ah, I was careless; I forgot to put it away."
"If you want to keep something secret, you must not do it in the first place."
Grandma Jiang asked, "Yang Yi, what are you planning to do?"
Yang Yi took a deep breath and said, "Since you all know now, there’s nothing left for me to hide. Yes, I am the Mysterious Man in Black."
Mao Guoxue sighed again and remarked, "So your so-called retreat some time ago must have been when you left Jintan."
"That's right," Yang Yi replied succinctly.
"Why are you doing this?" Mao Guoxue asked.
Yang Yi hesitated slightly before responding, "I think there's someone you all must know."
"Who?"
Both Grandma Jiang and Mao Guoxue turned their gazes toward Yang Yi, and I felt a bit curious as well. Could it be that there was another reason behind his actions?
Yang Yi calmly said, "Yang Yun."
"Yang Yun?"
Mao Guoxue and Grandma Jiang's expressions immediately darkened at the mention of the name.
Grandma Jiang spoke in a low voice, "That old guy has been in the ground for decades. What does he have to do with this?"
Yang Yi replied coldly, "Haven't you noticed that the Zombie I took looks a lot like him?"
"What?"
Both Grandma Jiang and Mao Guoxue shuddered at his words. I stood to the side, feeling confused about why they were reacting so strongly.
At that moment, Zhou Zhen also furrowed his brow deeply. His expression changed noticeably when he heard the name Yang Yun.
Clearly, Zhou Zhen knew this person as well. I couldn't help but lean closer and whisper, "Uncle Zhou, who exactly is Yang Yun?" Since they both shared the surname Yang, I wanted to understand the connection between this person and Yang Yi.
Zhou Zhen's expression grew complicated as he said, "He was his grandfather. He died many years ago. For some reasons, his body was never found. I just didn't expect..."
Zhou Zhen didn't finish his sentence and shook his head instead. I chose not to press further.
However, one thing struck me as particularly surprising: I had not expected that the Cloud Ghost General was actually Yang Yi's grandfather. Even more difficult to accept was the fact that Yang Yi had turned him into a Zombie.
Seeing our unusual expressions, Yang Yi sneered, "You must be very surprised."
Grandma Jiang snorted coldly, "Yang Yun really has a good grandson."
Mao Guoxue was even angrier, "Yang Yi, do you know what you're doing? Your actions are simply intolerable."
Yang Yi narrowed his eyes, his face instantly turning incredibly ferocious as he said, "So what? Who told him to bring Mao Shiba over? If I hadn't intervened, my grandfather would probably have been scared out of his wits by Mao Shiba by now."
"Is that your excuse for turning your grandfather into a Zombie?" Grandma Jiang couldn't help but coldly reprimand.
"Of course not," Yang Yi retorted. "But I definitely won't hand my grandfather over to you."
"What about her?"
Mao Guoxue raised an eyebrow and pointed to the area shrouded in Blue Rune several dozen feet ahead.
Upon hearing this, my gaze immediately fell on Yang Yi. After all this back and forth, we finally shifted our focus back to Mu Yan.
Yang Yi sneered, "She’s of no use to me; she’s just a bit of a nuisance at times. But since you’ve discovered her, why don’t we each take a step back?"
"And how do you propose we do that?" Mao Guoxue replied coldly.
"I’ll release her, and as for my grandfather's matter, let’s just call it quits," Yang Yi said, waiting for Mao Guoxue's response.
"Absolutely not. Although your grandfather was a predecessor in life, he is now a Zombie. How can we let him go?" Mao Guoxue immediately rejected the proposal.
Yang Yi's gaze turned icy in an instant, his expression fierce as he declared, "Then let her accompany him to the grave."
"Yang Yi, as long as I'm here, you won't get away with it," Mao Guoxue snapped.
Yang Yi laughed coldly, "Do you really think you can stop me?"
"Let's give it a try," Mao Guoxue said defiantly.
The difference in cultivation between him and Yang Yi was not significant, so stopping Yang Yi would not be difficult. Then Grandma Jiang could break the Seven Fiends Soul Locking Formation in front of them and rescue Mu Yan, while Zhou Zhen could stay behind to protect me.
Therefore, neither Mao Guoxue, Grandma Jiang, nor Zhou Zhen were worried at this moment.
However, they overlooked one thing.
Yang Yi suddenly activated a rune in his hand, chanting an incantation as he shook a bell violently. Immediately, a surge of bloodthirsty energy erupted from the bushes behind them.
Mao Guoxue, Grandma Jiang, and Zhou Zhen were all taken aback, turning to face the source of the disturbance.
I stood beside them, equally startled, feeling the ground tremble violently for an instant.
Then came a dull thud as a figure enveloped in bloodthirsty energy leaped out from behind and landed directly next to Yang Yi.
