Xiao Juan always gave me the impression of being carefree and straightforward, with a personality that was quite boyish. I never expected her to say something so feminine.
I was taken aback for a moment, but I didn’t dwell on it and quickly got up to follow her outside.
Xiao Juan led me to the courtyard, where I saw Grandma Jiang sitting, seemingly enjoying the cool breeze. I felt immensely grateful and said, “Grandma Jiang, thank you for saving me.”
I didn’t mention the Gu Worm incident to avoid upsetting her.
Without turning her head, Grandma Jiang simply replied, “Are you feeling better now?”
I nodded and responded, “Yes, I think I’m okay now.”
Grandma Jiang said, “That’s good. If you’re fine, then you should go. Let Xiao Juan take you to Upper Clear Academy.”
I glanced at the sky; it was already pitch black. Frowning slightly, I said, “Grandma, do I have to leave right now?”
Grandma Jiang retorted impatiently, “If you don’t leave now, when do you plan to go?”
I replied, “But it’s already dark. Why don’t you let me stay here for the night and leave tomorrow instead?”
Although the distance to Upper Clear Academy wasn’t too far, the mountain roads were rugged and desolate at night. Without any transportation and needing to walk, I felt a bit scared.
“Stay for a night?”
Upon hearing this, Grandma Jiang turned to look at me with what seemed like irritation and said, “Where would you stay? There are only two rooms here. Are you planning to sleep in my room or Xiao Juan’s room?”
I tentatively suggested, “Didn’t you and Xiao Juan sleep together last night? Why don’t you two share again today? I can continue sleeping in Xiao Juan’s room.”
“Hmph, that’s quite an idea.”
Xiao Juan shot me a sideways glance and couldn't help but let out a slight cold snort, which made me feel quite awkward.
I said, "Isn't it too late for you to be sending me home? I can't bear to have a girl do that."
"It's fine. Xiao Juan has been walking home at night since she was little, and once she gets there, she can stay in the dormitory at Upper Clear Academy without needing to come back," Grandma Jiang interjected before Xiao Juan could respond.
I wanted to say more, but Grandma Jiang continued, "Xiao Juan, take him with you. I've already told Mao Guoxue and the others that I'll be back in two days, and today marks exactly two days."
Hearing this left me speechless; it turned out this was all because of that one statement.
But since the conversation had reached this point, I couldn't stubbornly cling on any longer. Besides, having such a beautiful girl accompanying me wasn't too bad after all.
So I thanked Grandma Jiang once more and then stepped out with Xiao Juan.
Xiao Juan led the way with a flashlight while I nervously followed closely behind her.
The wilderness was filled with the sounds of insects and birds, which was somewhat unsettling, but Xiao Juan seemed unfazed, as if it didn't bother her at all.
I couldn't help but compliment her, "You're really brave."
Xiao Juan chuckled and told me that she had lived here with her grandmother since she was young. Walking home at night had become second nature to her; there was nothing to fear.

As we walked along the road, we chatted casually. She seemed curious about why someone would place an Eight Character Death Curse on me.

She replied, "Don't you already know?"
I said, "I only know your nickname, but I don't know your full name."
Suddenly, Xiao Juan turned around, stopped in her tracks, and stared at me. "Tell me, why are you asking for my name? Ever since you came to Upper Clear Academy on the first day, you've been staring at me. Do you have some ulterior motive?"
Her sudden outburst left me a bit speechless. I innocently replied, "Come on, what ulterior motive could I possibly have? I just wanted to ask for your name."
"By the way, to be polite, I'll tell you my name too. I'm Lin Hao," I said with a hint of annoyance.
Xiao Juan immediately made a face and stuck out her tongue. "Hmph, I already knew your name. I'm Yao Juan, but everyone likes to call me Xiao Juan. Do you like me?"
"I like you."
Xiao Juan's words made me break into a cold sweat. I was taken aback and thought this girl was being a bit too direct.
Before I could respond, a sudden chill swept through the air. Xiao Juan's expression changed instantly as she shouted at me, "Come closer to me!"
I asked, "What's going on?"
Xiao Juan whispered, "Something dirty is coming."
The mention of something dirty made me tense up immediately, and I hurriedly moved closer to Xiao Juan. However, it felt as if something suddenly held me back; my feet wouldn't budge.
At that moment, Xiao Juan shouted loudly, "Who dares to act recklessly in front of me, Spirit Entity?"
Suddenly, I pulled out a rune from my pocket and began to chant the incantation.
A shock ran through me as I realized that I had been caught by some sudden, dirty force. In a panic, I turned around and was taken aback once more.
I asked in astonishment, "How is it you?"
The one holding me was none other than Mu Yan, who stood right beside me, gripping my hand tightly. I was at a loss for words; how could she just appear out of nowhere in this desolate wilderness?
Mu Yan snorted coldly and said, "What? You didn't want to see me or have you found someone else?"
Found someone else?
Following Mu Yan's gaze, I looked at Xiao Juan and instantly understood who Mu Yan was referring to. I quickly replied with a blank expression, "Who has found someone else? That's not true."
At that moment, Xiao Juan had already finished her incantation and was about to cast her spell. I hurriedly intervened, saying, "Xiao Juan, don't do it! She's one of us."
"Who said she's one of us?" Xiao Juan glared at me, refusing to back down.
Panic surged within me, and I blurted out, "She's a friendly ghost! Just don't attack her."
"Ghost my foot!" Xiao Juan shouted angrily as the rune in her hand glowed brightly and shot towards Mu Yan.
Though I was worried, Mu Yan seemed completely unfazed. In an instant, she dodged to the side just as the rune flew past her.
The next moment, she appeared behind Xiao Juan and had her hand around Xiao Juan's neck, lifting her off the ground slowly.
With a fierce look on her face, Mu Yan coldly warned, "I advise you not to provoke me. With your level of skill, you're no match for me."
Seeing Xiao Juan struggling to breathe under Mu Yan's grip made me panic even more. I rushed over and tried to pry Mu Yan's hand away while saying, "Mu Yan, don't be impulsive! Let go of her! Her grandmother just saved me; if you hurt her, I won't forgive you."
Hearing me say that, Mu Yan let out a cold snort and released her grip. She stood beside me and said in a frosty tone, "I don't like you getting too close to her."
I was taken aback, feeling as if a thousand alpacas were galloping through my mind.
So this is jealousy, huh?
Seeing that Xiao Juan was fine, I curiously asked Mu Yan, "How did you end up here?"
Mu Yan shot me an annoyed glance and replied, "You still have the nerve to ask? You left without saying a word. I followed for quite a while before I found you."
Alright, I admit it; I felt utterly speechless.
Then Mu Yan chuckled and took my hand, saying, "Wherever you're going, I'm going with you. Don't let her tag along."
"No way. Grandma told me to take you there, and I have to make sure you get there." Before I could finish, Xiao Juan had already walked over and grabbed my other hand.
With Mu Yan on my left and Xiao Juan on my right, I noticed Xiao Juan had also taken hold of my hand. Instantly, Mu Yan's icy glare shot over.
Though Xiao Juan had just suffered a setback, she wasn't one to back down easily. She huffed and glared back defiantly.
I felt an overwhelming headache coming on; this situation was completely out of control.
To avoid unnecessary trouble from escalating, I forcefully shook off their hands and said to Mu Yan, "Mu Yan, it's better if you don't come with me. The place I'm going has many experts in Mausoleum Taoism, and I'm worried they might harm you."
What I said wasn't because I didn't want her to follow; it was genuinely out of concern.
Upper Clear Academy is where they study Maoshan Techniques. Mao Shiba and Zhou Zhen are manageable, but what about others? Like Mao Shiba's Second Uncle or that Yang Yi? And those students...
If they saw Mu Yan, it would be disastrous; it would be like leading her into a den of tigers.

I replied irritably, "Xiao Juan, stop messing around."
Xiao Juan snorted and fell silent.
Then I turned to Mu Yan and said, "Listen to me, if anything happens, I'll just shout for you."
"Really?" Mu Yan asked somewhat reluctantly.
I nodded and said, "Really."
"Alright then, just remember to call for me."
"Don't worry."
With my assurance, Mu Yan finally seemed to relax, albeit unwillingly disappearing from sight.
I wasn't sure if she was still nearby, but I didn't dwell on it and continued walking forward with Xiao Juan.
After a few minutes, Xiao Juan curiously asked, "What was that female ghost just now?"
Her question was a bit contradictory, which made me chuckle. I replied, "That female ghost was just a female ghost."
"Get lost."
Xiao Juan shot back at me irritably.
Only then did I put away my smile and say, "She is the Mu Yan I met while delivering a package."
"Oh, it's her."
Xiao Juan nodded slightly, finally recalling something. Suddenly, her brows furrowed tightly as a cold wind blew directly at us.
Xiao Juan said irritably, "No way, is this never-ending? I haven't even held her hand, and you're still coming back."
But before she could finish her sentence, when she looked up ahead, she was instantly rendered speechless, her mouth agape as if an egg could fit inside.
I frowned slightly and looked up, immediately wanting to scream, but I was quickly silenced by Xiao Juan covering my mouth from behind.
She whispered in my ear, "Don't shout. Let's keep moving as if we haven't seen anything."
