Siege Battle—this was undoubtedly something countless players dreamed of!
The western wind howled, and colorful flags fluttered! Unlike before, the walls of Southern Wilderness City were now occupied by a large number of soldiers, with various siege machines strategically positioned, and the Drawbridge had long been raised over the moat.
Outside the Thousand Wood Forest, Doron and Uke donned their armor, wielding long swords, while a nameless black steed, also armored, stood beneath them. They were positioned in the center of a massive formation of over a hundred thousand soldiers, seemingly appearing from nowhere.
Yi Tianchen chuckled softly: this display was indeed impressive!
In this battle starring NPCs from both sides, all players, including Yi Tianchen, were merely supporting characters.
However...
Being a supporting character meant one could choose how to play that role!
Clearly, in this large-scale battle, if one intended to reap some rewards, the spoils would be quite substantial.
...
“ Liu Yuhan, how are you all prepared?” Yi Tianchen sent a private message.
“Everything is ready!” Liu Yuhan replied quickly, accompanied by a confident emoji. “The only downside is that our people are stuck behind the NPCs and can’t rush to the front lines immediately.”
“No worries; let the NPCs be the cannon fodder!” Yi Tianchen laughed.
“Agreed!”
With their thoughts aligned, Liu Yuhan smiled slightly and sent out the final command in the Guild channel: “Avoid their main force, strike at their weak points. While capturing Southern Wilderness City, maximize our potential gains, but don’t act recklessly!”
“Boom—”
Suddenly, a thunderous drumbeat echoed through the air!
"Are we starting?" Yi Tianchen glanced at Doron and Uke, who had completely forgotten him and were fully immersed in the battle.
Sure enough, Doron and Uke raised their long swords!
This was the signal to begin the attack—yet Yi Tianchen felt a bit dazed. When did humans and the Undead stand together like this?
"Ha—"
A roar erupted from the front lines, synchronized as if it were one voice!
"Attack!"
"Attack!"
Two sharp commands rang out, drums thundered, battle flags fluttered, and accompanied by the furious shouts of thousands of warriors on the battlefield, the first wave of soldiers at the forefront held their shields high, pushing various siege machines toward the western gate of Southern Wilderness City.
"Boom!"
In the center, a large number of mages initiated the first strike of this battle. Countless massive fireballs whistled through the air, resembling meteors from outer space, trailing long tails of light as they rained down upon the city walls, instantly raising clouds of smoke and flames.
However, the enemy's counterattack had already begun!
Waves of ranged magic and arrows launched in succession, while enormous Catapults unleashed terrifying boulders weighing dozens of tons. They tore through the air with a deafening crash, smashing into the ground and creating enormous craters.
Even more boulders fell among the dense ranks!
One could only imagine what would happen when such a heavy boulder, propelled by the immense force of a Catapult, crashed into a tightly packed formation in an instant.
Screams echoed as flesh was torn apart, blood staining the earth!
"Damn it!"
In the Mist of Time Guild channel, countless voices filled the air with astonishment, marking a stark departure from the usual combat between players' guilds. The battles unfolding between NPCs were far too brutal, bloody, and horrific to behold.
Damn it, between Guild factions, a Catapult could only hurl stones weighing a few hundred pounds at most!
Compared to the massive boulders weighing several tons, it was like comparing a watermelon to a peanut. The difference in mass brought about a visual effect that was worlds apart—one on the surface and the other in the depths of hell—making the potential for destruction utterly clear.
“Tianchen...” Liu Yuhan slightly raised her head.
A flying mount approached slowly, carrying a figure whose knees were slightly bent. In one hand, he clutched a handful of feathers, while the other held the hilt of a sword, its broad blade resting on his shoulder. The sound of clanking chains blended with the rustling wind, creating an excellent accompaniment.
“Damn, the boss is showing off again!” Fallen Feather in the Sky scoffed.
“What’s wrong? If you’re not happy, you can go too!” nearby, The Terminator of Regrets chuckled, his gaze tinged with mockery.
“Don’t start with me; I’m a serious person!” Fallen Feather in the Sky retorted.
“Can’t you just stop trying to be cool?” On another side, Yesterday's Fireworks couldn’t hold back either and disdainfully raised a slender middle finger, a smirk playing on his lips. “If you’re considered a serious person, then hey… I am too! Ha!”
“Didn’t see that coming!”
Proud Dragon joined in, shouldering his hefty crossbow and striking a provocative pose. “I just realized you all belong to the reserved type; today’s finally revealing your true colors!”
“Shut up!” the three shouted in unison.
“You guys are really getting into it!” Yi Tianchen didn’t let his mount descend but hovered above everyone’s heads. “Alright, enough chit-chat. Next up, we need to strive to reach the front lines. If we don’t seize this great opportunity to gain some benefits, we’d be letting ourselves down!”
“Boss, what benefits are there exactly?”
“Phew! Thank goodness; I thought I was the only one slow on the uptake! I’ve been trying to figure out what benefits participating in this battle would bring,” Yesterday's Fireworks sighed in relief and looked up. “Boss, give us some insight!”
“A hint would be nice too!” The Terminator of Regrets added.
"Unmentionable!" The simple three words from Yi Tianchen immediately drew a sigh from the crowd. Liu Yuhan smiled, and her Shattered Dream suddenly burst forth with dazzling rainbow light as she mounted her steed and soared towards Yi Tianchen, declaring sternly, "The answer is for you to seek out yourself!"
"Hey, I seem to be getting a bit impatient!" One-Handed Riding in the Sky rode up on his mount.
Soon, members of the Dragon Slaying Team had all switched to flying mounts and formed a team in the air with Yi Tianchen.
Yi Tianchen leaned towards Liu Yuhan. "It seems you already know the answer?"
"Is it really that hard to guess?"
Liu Yuhan smiled confidently, a hint of mystery flashing in her bright eyes. "The answer is that there is no answer, because even you can't articulate what benefits you will gain from participating in this battle, right?"
Yi Tianchen laughed!
"The young lady is wise and formidable; nothing escapes your keen insight. You see through everything so clearly; I am deeply convinced!"
"That's good to know. Why say it out loud?" Liu Yuhan chuckled.
"Boss, President... um, can I offer a small suggestion?" Yesterday's Fireworks said seriously from a short distance behind. "Sometimes, it's better to use private chat!"
