Before everyone's eyes lay a desolate scene.
Yi Tianchen and Liu Yuhan exchanged puzzled glances, both feeling a sense of confusion. The Elven Forest they remembered should have been filled with towering ancient trees and lush greenery, but the sight before them cleverly avoided all those descriptors.
There were indeed trees, but only a few sparse ones, and they appeared to be clearly malnourished.
Thickets of thorns were scattered about, adorned with tiny leaves, typical of drought-resistant vegetation. The soil had even begun to show signs of desertification.
"Are you sure this is the place?" Yi Tianchen asked with a bitter smile.
"To be honest, I'm not sure either!" Liu Yuhan admitted, her mood slightly heavy. She suddenly realized a misconception: the mission referred to the "legendary Elven Forest," yet everything before them seemed far too plain and ordinary.
Legendary? It certainly didn't look like anything worth searching for...
"Perhaps this is also a breakthrough point!" Mu Wanqing, who had been quiet until now, began to analyze. "Since this mission provides no extra hints, the overlap of the name 'Elven Forest' might not be a coincidence. At the very least, it should have some connection to the real Elven Forest."
"Now that we're here, we might as well investigate!" Yesterday's Fireworks chimed in.
Without further discussion, the group of seven entered this so-called Elven Forest. They had learned from their research that this was a level 60+ Monster Zone, which explained why no players had ventured here; most players were still around level 50.
Thus, the group began their aimless exploration!
Barely five minutes in, a creature over two meters tall—the Mighty Bull Monster—came into view. It looked extremely aggressive, with its sharp horns that could easily cause serious harm if one were to be gored by it.
"Just a level 63 monster!"
One-Handed Riding in the Sky chuckled as he led the way. At this moment, everyone in the team had already advanced to high-level professions at level 60. A mere level 63 Mighty Bull Monster was hardly worth their attention, but they weren't planning to engage these creatures anyway.
They were just here to investigate the mission clues...
If they were to talk about grinding for levels, they certainly wouldn't choose the level 63 Mighty Bull Monster. With their current team's overall strength, they could easily handle level 65 monsters.
The group circled around and continued on their way!
Before they knew it, an hour had passed. Yi Tianchen and Liu Yuhan, along with the Seven People, had made a large circle around the Mighty Bull Monster but had not found any valuable clues. Instead, The Terminator of Regrets suddenly rushed over from a distance and said something that sent chills down everyone's spines—
"We're surrounded!"
"Surrounded?"
Proud Dragon was momentarily taken aback, surprised as he said, "No way? Monsters can actively surround players?"
"It's people!" The Terminator of Regrets replied flatly.
"Dammit, we came here so discreetly, and this isn't even a place where players usually pay attention. How could we be targeted?" Yesterday's Fireworks looked confused and turned to One-Handed Riding in the Sky. "No way—could it really be people from War God Hall?"
"That's right, it's War God Hall!"
The Terminator of Regrets frowned and said grimly, "I recognize their guild emblem; there's no doubt about it! And there are quite a few of them. From my rough estimate just now, there are definitely over a hundred. They sneaked in quietly and have now completed the encirclement around us."
"Let's scout again!"
Yi Tianchen pondered for a moment, and The Terminator of Regrets nodded before leaving. Proud Dragon and One-Handed Riding in the Sky also took the initiative to follow. At that moment, an unprecedented sense of pressure surged in their hearts; everyone felt the looming crisis.
This was exactly what they had been worried about!
Although they still didn't know how War God Hall had gotten wind of their presence, what mattered most now was how to break free from War God Hall's encirclement. Despite all seven of them being experts above level 60, they were up against hundreds of opponents!
“President, Tianchen Boss, what should we do next?” Yesterday's Fireworks forced a smile.
“First, let's assess the situation of the other side. Since they haven't shown themselves yet, it means their preparations are not complete, and that gives us an opportunity!”
As he spoke, Yi Tianchen opened the map and shared it with Liu Yuhan and the others, continuing, “This Elf Forest is quite special; it's essentially just a patch of desertified forest left in the corner of the desert. To the west, north, and east, there are rolling sands…”
“Are you suggesting we break through into the desert?” Liu Yuhan asked.
“Exactly!”
Yi Tianchen's expression turned serious as he analyzed, “To the south is Xiliang City; we cannot choose that direction. The vast deserts to the northwest and east are high-level Monster Zones. Given the average level of War God Hall's members, they should be hesitant to enter recklessly.”
“So which direction should we break through?” Mu Wanqing inquired, puzzled.
“We'll have to wait for them to return and decide based on the actual situation they report,” Yi Tianchen replied as he put away the Holographic Virtual Map. His gaze shifted toward the east, where there was also a vast expanse of dead silence and sand, along with a place to land.
Soon after, The Terminator of Regrets returned!
“There are a large number of players to the northwest and east, with the east having the most. Preliminary estimates suggest around three hundred people are surrounding us!”
One-Handed Riding in the Sky raised an eyebrow. “MLGBD, War God Hall is really something!”
“Has Rebellious Blood Blade arrived?”
Yi Tianchen asked. The Terminator of Regrets seemed to have noticed this issue as well and responded in surprise, “I was just thinking it was strange. Logically speaking, since War God Hall has mobilized so many people, their President Rebellious Blood Blade should be among them.”
“What does that mean?” Yesterday's Fireworks asked in confusion.
“What about their level equipment?” Yi Tianchen inquired again.
"The equipment is quite average, and the level is probably between 45 and 50. More importantly, I hardly see any familiar faces. These few hundred people look more like a makeshift group rather than the regular forces of the War God Hall!" The Terminator of Regrets said, puzzled.
"So, you mean that Rebellious Blood Blade is just putting on a show for him?" Liu Yuhan defined the situation.
"A show?"
Proud Dragon asked in confusion, "Do you mean that surrounding us isn't Rebellious Blood Blade's true intention? He's just acting for... who exactly are you referring to, President?"
"Who else could it be but the informant who tipped off Rebellious Blood Blade!" One-Handed Riding in the Sky said fiercely.
"What should we do then?"
Proud Dragon connected various pieces of information. "Right now, there are people from War God Hall on all sides. Retreating south to Xiliang City would be walking into a trap. Moreover, if Rebellious Blood Blade is indeed acting, then we definitely can't retreat back to Xiliang City."
"Exactly. If we go back to Xiliang City, Rebellious Blood Blade won't be able to continue his act."
Yi Tianchen smiled mysteriously. "Let's head east and surround them!"
