Upon hearing that their own Pathfinder Squad Three had been wiped out in an instant, the group of people who had been so enthusiastic suddenly felt a chill in their hearts. They still held some fear towards Falling Leaves, the top player on the Server-wide Level leaderboard, even though they outnumbered him. They needed to unite to stand a chance!
"Come on, as long as we stick together, Falling Leaves won't be able to do anything to us." After a long silence, someone finally spoke up with a comforting remark. Another voice chimed in, "That's right! Even if Falling Leaves is strong, he can't possibly take on all of us!"
The group spent quite some time discussing their strategy around Falling Leaves, and before they knew it, they had ventured deeper into Dawn Forest. As the sun began to set in the west, the tall and dense trees obscured the light, casting a shadowy gloom over the forest floor.
"Rustling..."
The grass rustled, and someone in the front row suddenly shouted, "Someone's there!" He stumbled back a few steps, eyes wide open, staring intently at the direction of the sound. Speechless said, "Um... did you guys hear that? Could it be that Falling Leaves is coming for us?"
"Come on! Do you think Falling Leaves is a god? Seeing our strong numbers, any normal person wouldn't choose to attack!" Someone in the group started to mockingly respond, continuing, "If it really is Falling Leaves, then we might have a chance to prove ourselves."
"Prove ourselves? That's not a bad idea!"
A nonchalant voice spoke up; it belonged to a Mage Player. Dressed in a brown mage robe, his youthful face belied the maturity reflected in his eyes. He held a slender staff that shimmered with silver light.
His name was Chaos of Life, a skilled mage and the third-in-command of Blood Night Guild after President Blood Night Poison Dragon and Vice President Blood Night Poison Wolf. Previously, when Blood Night Poison Wolf mentioned splitting into three groups, Chaos of Life was the commander of the third group.
"Brother Three, what do you mean by that?" The earlier speaker seemed displeased. Given Chaos of Life's status within Blood Night Guild, everyone referred to him as Brother Three—indicating his position as the third leader of the guild. In this small guild, he was indeed second only to two others.
"Never underestimate your enemy; otherwise, you will meet a terrible fate!" Chaos of Life said sternly and lowered his voice further. "Don't forget that our current enemy is Falling Leaves, ranked first on the Server-wide leaderboard. To view him with ordinary eyes is already a form of defeat!"
"Brother Three, I admit that Falling Leaves is indeed formidable, but don't always boost others' morale while diminishing our own!" The earlier speaker retorted dismissively. Speechless added sarcastically, "No matter how strong Falling Leaves is, he doesn't have three heads and six arms; we shouldn't be afraid of him."
"Let's hope so!"
Chaos of Life forced a bitter smile and said no more. He simply signaled for everyone to continue deeper into the forest. After passing through some bushes, they suddenly spotted several distinct footprints on the ground, causing everyone's hearts to race.
"Oh crap! It really is Falling Leaves; we might be in trouble!" one person shouted but was quickly hushed by his teammates around him.
“Brother Three, what should we do?” someone asked.
Chaos of Life smiled helplessly and said seriously, “Remember, all members must maintain close Status and advance in three horizontal teams. Absolutely do not act alone; otherwise, if we are caught off guard by Falling Leaves and face a deadly attack, we won't be far from returning to the city.”
“Understood,” everyone replied.
“Good.” Chaos of Life nodded, gesturing with his hand. “Bring two Summoners forward to test the waters with your Summoned Beasts.”
“Great idea!”
Two Summoners stepped forward from the team, accompanied by their Summoned Beasts. As ordinary Summoners, after reaching level 30 and advancing to an intermediate profession, they could summon more aggressive Golden-Eyed Tiger Beasts. These beasts were pure white, a variant of tigers, possessing incredible Speed and sharp attacks.
“Roar…”
Following their orders, the two Golden-Eyed Tiger Beasts immediately charged forward, weaving through the dense Bushes until they disappeared from sight. Initially, various sounds could be heard—some urgent, some slow—but soon after, an eerie silence enveloped the area as if nothing had happened.
“Oh no! My Summoned Beast is dead!” one Summoner exclaimed, trembling in disbelief at the scene unfolding before him. Moments later, the other Summoner echoed his shock with a similar reaction.
“Rustle…”
Indeed, there was an ambush… Chaos of Life froze for a moment as this thought crossed his mind. Just then, he heard a violent rustling from ahead and someone beside him exclaimed, “Falling Leaves! It’s Falling Leaves!”
Everyone looked up to see a figure standing ahead, clearly wielding a dragon-carved greatsword. Who else could it be but Yi Tianchen?
“Damn it! He’s just one person; we don’t have to fear him! Everyone focus fire on Falling Leaves! Attack!” one person shouted, quickly gaining support from many others, especially among the ranged professions who felt their fighting spirit ignited and were ready to launch an assault.
Rain of Arrows.
Multishot.
However, someone was clearly faster than them, or rather, had prepared earlier. With the casting of two skills, a dark mass of arrows descended like locusts, instantly encompassing all targets within a 10×10 area.
“Damn it! Spread out, everyone scatter!”
Someone in the team shouted immediately, and action quickly followed. Since they had all gathered together, the advantage of area damage skills could be maximized. The only way to counter this was to disperse the team before the skills landed, minimizing the damage.
“This is bad, it’s a trap!” Glancing at the still relaxed Yi Tianchen in the distance, Chaos of Life suddenly realized. Just a moment ago, he had instructed his subordinates not to disperse, and now they were being forced to do just that.
Gathering together meant being vulnerable to area damage; this was the strategy employed by Yi Tianchen and Liu Yuhan. With Team Three collapsing in an instant, Blood Night would certainly not give them another chance. The simplest and most effective way to avoid being ambushed was to stay united and act as one.
But Blood Night had Zhang Liang's Strategy, and Yi Tianchen and Liu Yuhan had their own means of overcoming obstacles. Under the effect of group status, area damage skills were naturally more effective. Once attacked by such skills, human instinct would immediately kick in—how could they evade?
Thus, spreading out was the most direct, simple, and effective method. This dispersion played right into the hands of Yi Tianchen and Liu Yuhan.
“Kill!”
A low, cold voice suddenly echoed through the team channel. Led by Yi Tianchen, Li Tielong, Hero Does Not Question Origin, Not a Master, and Stinky Fish, the five had swiftly emerged from various directions and closed in. Lurking in the shadows, The Terminator of Regrets and Lin Yan also struck with precision.
Necromantic Binding.
Charge.
Combat Restraint.
Combat Restraint.
Combat Restraint.
Combat Restraint.
Yi Tianchen’s Necromantic Binding, Li Tielong’s Charge, and the four members of Hero Does Not Question Origin all utilized Combat Restraint, powerful crowd control skills that inflicted stun or binding effects. With their clear division of roles, the six skills quickly trapped the six members of Blood Night.
Three seconds, an opportunity!
“Hahaha... this is so damn satisfying!” Hero Does Not Question Origin laughed heartily as he soared upward with the Bone Crusher Blade, plunging it into one enemy, delivering a chilling blow. He followed up with a sweeping strike and chained two more skills, successfully eliminating that opponent.
“Damn it!”
The battle unfolded too suddenly and swiftly. As Chaos of Life cursed, he immediately swung his staff, conjuring a complex Magic Spell. He quickly launched a Fireball and then executed several short-distance jumps to create some space.
“Not a slow reaction!”
A cold voice suddenly echoed. Startled, Chaos of Life turned around just in time to meet a dagger radiating cold air.
A thrust.
The strike landed, and The Terminator of Regrets’s follow-up attack came down instantly. With only light armor, Chaos of Life could hardly withstand a close-range assault from an assassin. To make matters worse, misfortune struck as two out of three hits resulted in Critical Hits, causing his Health Points to plummet.
“Damn it!” In a fit of rage, Chaos of Life hastily downed a level five Health Potion, activating his blinking skill to create some distance. While raising his Magic Shield, he turned around and unleashed an area-of-effect magic skill, barely buying himself a moment.
Flame Impact.
A level 30 skill for mages, it concentrated fire elemental energy to deal significant Fire Magic damage to a single target. This was one of the most powerful skills available to mages before reaching level 60. As the incantation concluded, a searing flame appeared in the sky.
Falling...
With a loud bang, flames erupted in an instant, but only a glaring "MISS" sign floated out!
"Damn it!" Chaos of Life frowned. This single-target skill was indeed quite troublesome against an agile assassin. Unfortunately, there was no concept of skill locking in Zero Era; for ranged professions like mages and archers, one needed real skill to succeed.
"It's over."
The Terminator of Regrets said coldly, his figure flickering as he entered stealth. Chaos of Life was taken aback, clearly sensing a chilling intent to kill. He immediately activated his blink to retreat but still couldn't avoid it. Due to the potion still being on cooldown, he ultimately fell victim to a Critical Hit after his shield was broken.
"Damn it, Brother Three is down!"
A message popped up in the team chat, and several people were left dumbfounded. One person shouted, "Retreat! Everyone, retreat!"
Frost Arrow.
Blazing Arrow.
Deep in the forest, Liu Yuhan's arrows were always so unexpected yet capable of delivering incredibly high precision and powerful damage!
