Another enemy?
This truly caught Yi Tianchen and Liu Yuhan off guard. At this moment, Yi Tianchen faintly sensed that perhaps he should reconsider the previous conclusion about Far Apart. The Grassroots Heroes Association had set up a blockade not to stop all players intending to form mercenary groups, but specifically targeting Mist of Time.
If that were the case, the employer behind the Grassroots Heroes Association would be clear—it must be the King's Guild. However, based on the timing of this new enemy's appearance, it seemed they had only rearranged their deployment to the Black Magic Forest after receiving precise information to execute the so-called mercenary mission.
In other words, this was a contingency plan sent by the employer, and their strength could not be underestimated!
As everyone gathered, Yi Tianchen pondered for a moment, knowing that this was likely a hostile encounter. With only a limited time of one hundred twenty minutes left for the Mercenary Mission, he opened up the massive corpse of the Dark Magic Tree Demon King and quickly found what was needed for the mission. He handed it to Liu Yuhan and said, "The mission is urgent; you should return to town first!"
Then he turned to Li Tielong and Hero Does Not Question Origin and instructed, "Due to the mission at hand, we cannot use the return scroll. You two escort Liu Yuhan back to town." After a moment's thought, he frowned slightly and added sternly, "Remember, do not go back to where the carriage is hidden; that place may already be a den of danger."
The two exchanged glances, surprised by Yi Tianchen's words but refraining from asking further questions. They nodded solemnly in agreement.
Indeed, Yi Tianchen's concerns were not unfounded. Since their opponents were well-prepared, they would surely consider the carriage as an ideal ambush point. Given the current time constraints of the Mercenary Mission, if they were surrounded or delayed, even if they managed to fight their way out in the end, there wouldn't be enough time left to complete their task.
With arrangements made, they each set about their actions. Yi Tianchen opened the partial map; three blue dots were rapidly moving away while two other dots remained stationary nearby. The moving ones were naturally Liu Yuhan and her companions, while the unmoving ones were The Terminator of Regrets and Lin Yan lurking in the shadows.
"Fallen Wood Boss, what should we do now?" Not a Master asked.
"Keep a tight grip on the enemy; we don't need to kill them but must not give them a chance to disengage," Yi Tianchen replied with a fierce look in his eyes. He then asked in the team channel, "Remnant, can you confirm their location and exact numbers?"
"Eight o'clock direction, approximately one hundred meters away; target count... three? Hmm, currently confirmed at three people, but their skills are quite exceptional..." The Terminator of Regrets' voice echoed in the team channel before suddenly turning urgent: "Not good! Three people are approaching President's direction with intent to intercept."
"Damn it!"
Yi Tianchen couldn't help but curse, swinging his Dragon's Roar behind him as he dashed toward the direction where Liu Yuhan and the others were. The four members of Not a Master wasted no time, each unleashing their full strength as they quickly pursued Yi Tianchen.
As he got closer, Yi Tianchen heard the whoosh of arrows slicing through the air and saw three arrows flying past. Liu Yuhan had already engaged the enemy. Activating Savage Charge, Yi Tianchen used the skill's Speed boost to intercept one of the attackers.
"Wow... you're pretty fast!" The newcomer was clad in leather armor, wielding a sharp longsword. Their movements were swift and agile, but with Yi Tianchen's timely intervention, they found themselves momentarily halted. With a slight shift, the attacker maneuvered around him and continued their assault on Liu Yuhan.
The opponent's positioning was bold and decisive, showing no hesitation, clearly having received precise information before arriving. As Yi Tianchen reflected on this, he suddenly shifted his own position, moving in the opposite direction of the attacker.
"Reverse S-dodging? Heh, that's quite impressive!" The attacker paused for a moment, their perception of Yi Tianchen's skill rising to a shocking level. However, their own movements remained unimpeded, matching the speed of Liu Yuhan, who was an archer.
"You’re not too shabby yourself!"
Yi Tianchen chuckled coldly and swung his Dragon's Roar in a powerful horizontal sweep. He then executed two consecutive jumps to sidestep forward and block the attacker's advance. Liu Yuhan furrowed her brow slightly; the intensity displayed by this newcomer was indeed formidable, and there was clearly a mercenary badge on their right arm.
"You go ahead; I'll hold him off!" Yi Tianchen communicated to Liu Yuhan through the team channel. He stepped forward confidently, cutting off the opponent's attack intentions while sizing them up. "Tsk tsk, a hidden class! Looks like it's quite impressive!"
From their weaponry, it was evident that this person belonged to the swordsman class, but their armor suggested a leather class. This unusual combination made Yi Tianchen think of a class with distinct martial arts characteristics—Ranger.
"I've heard of First Person before; seeing you today truly lives up to the reputation." The newcomer smiled slightly as they watched Liu Yuhan leave. Suddenly, their tone turned serious as they said, "However... there are rules in our line of work. Since I've come here today, I must complete my mission!"
"Heh... is that so?" Yi Tianchen replied casually. With Liu Yuhan safely away for now and no immediate danger present, while Li Tielong and Hero Does Not Question Origin were each entangled with an opponent, things were still relatively favorable for them. Changing his tone, he asked, "By the way, what's your name?"
"Uh..."
The newcomer was taken aback, surprised by Yi Tianchen's deliberate attempt to buy time. Why choose such a flimsy excuse that even a three-year-old could see through? With this thought, he sternly replied, "You'll find out soon enough."
As he spoke, his sword was drawn. The newcomer took a swift step forward; before he even arrived, the sword had already lunged toward Yi Tianchen's chest. Though the blade was slender, it emanated a chilling aura, like frost spreading through the air. As it rushed closer, a layer of silver light shimmered around it—
Silver Blade Strike Lv-2!
A burst of blood unexpectedly erupted. The newcomer was momentarily stunned; he had already sensed that Yi Tianchen was no ordinary person from their previous encounter. Yet, this "extraordinary" individual had been easily struck by his sword.
