Southern Wilderness City.
With the release of the latest gaming headset, more and more players began to flock to this coastal city. After logging in early, Yi Tianchen and Liu Yuhan along with eight others hurried back to Southern Wilderness City. They busied themselves at the Money Exchange, making sure to stock up on some good items.
Afterward, the group made their way to the Mercenary Association. In Zero Era, forming a mercenary group had no stringent requirements; all one needed was to pay 100 gold coins to the Mercenary Captain and submit a registration form.
The initial Level of a mercenary group was 1, unlocking level one Mercenary Missions. Completing these missions would grant not only a small amount of character experience but also a significant amount of mercenary vitality points. Once enough vitality points were accumulated, the group's Level could be increased. Upon reaching level 5, they would be eligible for promotion to a Guild.
In principle, this was the only way for players to form a Guild in Zero Era.
The Mercenary Association was located in the northeastern part of Southern Wilderness City. It resembled a circular castle built in a European style reminiscent of the last century, featuring a tall, slender spire that pierced the sky like an arrow, as if it aimed to create a massive hole in the heavens.
Upon entering, the Mercenary Association appeared small but was surprisingly spacious inside. The furnishings were not extravagant but exuded an air of authority. The hall was rectangular, with five stern-faced mercenary guards holding spears standing on either side.
Above them stood a towering figure resembling an iron tower. His brows were sharp like swords, his eyes burned like torches. A sword hung at his waist, his right hand resting on its hilt while he held a spear in his left hand. His cape billowed without wind, and above his forehead floated a line of small text—Mercenary Captain · Sadan.
“Is that Sadan?”
Li Tielong, who was accompanying them, gasped in shock, his eyes widening without blinking. Yi Tianchen smiled slightly and reached out to gently pat Li Tielong's shoulder, maintaining a calm demeanor: “Don’t be nervous; it’s just ‘calm’.”
Everyone chuckled as Liu Yuhan stepped forward: “I want to apply to form a mercenary group!”
Mercenary Captain · Sadan narrowed his eyes and scrutinized Liu Yuhan before nodding: “Not everyone can form a mercenary group; it’s not something for the weak. If you wish to establish one, you must pass my trial. Are you willing?”
“Of course.”
“Very well!” Mercenary Captain · Sadan continued: “If you can bring me the heart of the Dark Magic Tree Demon King within two hours, I will grant you the qualification to form your mercenary group. If you fail, you need not return to see me.”
System Notification: Your team has accepted the mission [Heart of the Dark Magic Tree Demon King]. Please proceed to the Black Magic Forest, kill 100 Dark Magic Imps, and defeat the Dark Magic Tree Demon King to obtain its heart and return it to Mercenary Captain · Sadan. The mission is time-limited to 120 minutes.
With the mission accepted successfully, the two-hour countdown began. After leaving the Mercenary Association, Yi Tianchen and Liu Yuhan's group boarded their carriage again. They confirmed the coordinates of the Black Magic Forest on the map before heading swiftly towards the eastern gate of Southern Wilderness City.
Black Magic Forest, located thirty degrees northeast of Southern Wilderness City and twenty miles into the dense forest, borders the Lion Plains to the west. It is an area populated by level 35 monsters and is currently a popular leveling spot for players, especially for those in the Mage class.
The monsters in Black Magic Forest move at a very slow Speed and rely on close-range physical attacks, with very low Magic Resistance. Additionally, since the minor monsters are tree-like spirits that are naturally afraid of fire, encountering Fire Magic is akin to dousing gasoline with a spark; it’s bound to ignite.
Unfortunately, among the ten members of Yi Tianchen's group, there were no Mages, let alone anyone skilled in Fire Magic. However, this thought reminded Yi Tianchen of the Lava Staff and Flame Set that Mu Wanqing had given him earlier. He figured they were probably listed on the System trading platform and their prices were likely soaring.

Shanghai, Shenji Studio.
Ma Ao watched the video playing on his computer screen. His calm and serious expression suddenly shifted, revealing an unreadable mix of emotions—neither joy nor anger, but perhaps a bit of both. As the President of the Divine Silence Guild, Ma Ao had been navigating the gaming world for over a decade.
Now in his thirties, while he may not possess the same youthful vigor as before, he had gained a sense of stability and experience. The fact that the Divine Silence Guild had maintained its position as the top Guild in China's Online Game scene for five years was largely due to Ma Ao's exceptional leadership.
"Using monsters to create more monsters, leveraging teammates' aggro to guide minor monsters into predetermined positions for ambushing the BOSS—this tactic is truly brilliant!" Ma Ao smiled slightly without turning around and asked calmly, "Do you think anyone in my Divine Silence Guild could pull this off?"
Behind him, two young men were momentarily taken aback, left speechless. After nearly thirty seconds of silence, one of them sighed and said, "President, with all due respect, not only would it be difficult to achieve this, but even coming up with such an idea seems nearly impossible." He paused before adding somewhat helplessly, "This Falling Leaves has really opened my eyes."
The other young man chimed in, "President, should we try to recruit this Falling Leaves?"
"No need."
Ma Ao waved his hand to stop them and said solemnly, "I've already mentioned that it's too late to recruit someone like this now. Moreover... this person is not ordinary! If we could recruit him, he would probably be sitting in my office as the Vice President of Shenji Studio!"
The two men were taken aback. The first one asked, "President, are you implying...?"
"It’s been three years... but I will definitely recognize that figure." Ma Ao sighed as if speaking to himself. "I’ve always had a feeling that this Falling Leaves is someone we know. Seeing him today confirms my suspicions!"
"President... do you know this Falling Leaves?" the second young man asked.
"Why? Don't you recognize him?" Ma Ao replied with a question of his own. Seeing their puzzled expressions, he chuckled lightly and shook his head. "Then... let me remind you of something significant that happened three years ago that shocked the Online Game community. Do you know what it was?"
The two of them were momentarily stunned again. As players deeply involved in the online gaming world, they were naturally not unfamiliar with major events that had shocked the Online Game community. Adding a time constraint and reflecting back three years, a slight recollection immediately led them to an answer.
“President, if we’re talking about something that shocked the Online Game community three years ago, I think the first thing that comes to mind is the mysterious disappearance of God of War Lutian Shafa…” One of them said, suddenly shivering all over, his words faltering slightly as he spoke with a hint of fear, “Could it be… President, are you saying… this Falling Leaves, he is…”
“God of War!”
The other person’s expression was blank, his eyes filled with shock and disbelief. “That’s right, he is Lutian Shafa, the former God of War. Three years ago, President invited Lutian Shafa to join Shenji Studio, offering him the position of Vice President, but he declined.”
“However… what does it mean for the God of War of the Past to reappear after three years of disappearance?” The first person pondered in shock and continued, “According to our allies over there, Light Cold Evening Snow recently applied to form a mercenary group, and Falling Leaves is part of it.”
Ma Ao was slightly taken aback, his expression suddenly relaxing as he murmured, “This is really good news!” After thinking for a moment, he called out to the two, “Tell our allies over there to keep a close watch on Falling Leaves and Light Cold Evening Snow. If necessary… provide assistance.”
