Without giving Ye Huan time to think further, Jin Ling immediately reacted after putting the Bluetooth headset on her right ear. Her first instinct was to urge Ye Huan to leave quickly. After all, Ye Huan had once killed one of the Heavenly Dragon Gate Protectors, Ghost Blade. If Song Zhong and the others decided to attack Ye Huan, Jin Ling feared she would have no reason to stop them. Therefore, after fiddling with the Bluetooth headset, Jin Ling shot Ye Huan a look that clearly said "leave quickly." She spoke calmly, "Considering this gift, I won't kill you. If you have nothing else to do, take this opportunity to disappear from my sight. Otherwise, don't blame me for being rude..."
"Wait!"
Before Jin Ling could finish her sentence, Song Zhong's voice interrupted her. He quickly stepped in front of Ye Huan, glaring at him with eyes filled with hatred. It was clear to anyone that he did not intend to let Ye Huan leave so easily. Judging by his temperament, it was highly likely he would take action against Ye Huan.
‘This is bad. What should I do? Ye Huan came to discuss our deal, and if he dies here, all my efforts will be in vain.’
A sense of dread washed over Jin Ling as she recognized the impending crisis looming over Ye Huan upon seeing Song Zhong's eyes. However, as one of the Heavenly Dragon Gate Protectors, it would be unreasonable for her to intervene against Song Zhong when he was dealing with someone who had killed Ghost Blade. Moreover, doing so might expose her dealings with Ye Huan.
After hesitating for a moment and noticing that Song Zhong was merely observing Ye Huan without taking any action, Jin Ling chose to remain a bystander, waiting for the situation to unfold. If Song Zhong allowed Ye Huan to leave, that would be ideal. But if he truly intended to attack Ye Huan, then as someone already tied to Ye Huan’s fate, she would have no choice but to help him escape and find another way.
"What? Do you want me to stay for dinner?"
Ye Huan showed no awareness of the danger he was in. Despite Jin Ling's earlier hint, he completely disregarded Song Zhong as if he were still following his original plan. He intended to play his role fully; as long as he maintained an upper-hand perspective towards Song Zhong—especially with the golden swords floating around him and several Apache Attack Helicopters behind him—Song Zhong would have to think twice before making a move against him. If he did decide to act, regardless of success or failure, Song Zhong would need to keep Ye Huan alive; otherwise, if Ye Huan managed to find them once, who could guarantee he wouldn’t track them down again?
Ye Huan was gambling all along; he bet that Song Zhong wouldn’t dare risk the lives of many Heavenly Dragon Gate Protectors nor his own life.
"Haha, I didn’t realize you had such a sense of humor earlier. Aren't you afraid we’ll take revenge for Ghost Blade?"
After staring at Ye Huan for a while and hearing his words, a false smile spread across Song Zhong's face as he brought up Ghost Blade's death. However, it must be noted that Song Zhong had some cleverness about him; particularly in his use of the word "we," which clearly indicated that if he decided to act against Ye Huan, it would be a coordinated effort among the Heavenly Dragon Sect's Ten Protectors. He believed that if Ye Huan showed even a hint of fear, Song Zhong would seize the moment to strike. After all, if they killed Ye Huan, no one in Yuxu Palace could stop their advance as Heavenly Dragon Sect's Ten Protectors. At that point, even if several Heavenly Dragon Gate Protectors died in the process, Song Zhong would have completed the task assigned by Gu Long and wouldn’t worry about failing in front of him.
"Revenge? You think you can take me on? Just as Jin Ling said earlier, she gave me a chance, and now I’m giving you all a chance to challenge me. Anyone who wants revenge can come at me!"
A hint of disdain appeared at the corner of Ye Huan's mouth as he coldly summoned a Javelin Anti-Tank Missile Launcher from the 2012 Arms catalog. The massive weapon, even larger than a Gatling gun, startled Song Zhong, leaving him speechless for a moment. As for the other Heavenly Dragon Gate Protectors, Mighty Bull had witnessed Ye Huan kill Ghost Blade firsthand; there was no way he would dare to provoke Ye Huan at this moment. The remaining individuals were mostly opportunists, and even those with courage hesitated to step in against Song Zhong, whom they usually found distasteful. For a time, no one spoke up, leaving only the roar of the Apache Attack Helicopter flying behind Ye Huan.
"Alright, alright, Ye Huan, just leave! I've already said I don’t want to see you here."
Sensing the atmosphere had cooled down, Jin Ling took the opportunity to play peacemaker. However, her words sounded more like a couple having a quarrel than anything else.
'Thank goodness... thank goodness I didn’t act impulsively against Ye Huan. It seems Jin Ling has also suffered under him; she must have been taken advantage of quite a bit. Otherwise, given Jin Ling's temperament, why would she speak to a man like that?'
Knowing Jin Ling's authoritative nature within the Heavenly Dragon Sect, Song Zhong reflected on her tone and realized that there might be some unsavory matters she hadn’t disclosed in front of everyone. At that moment, he felt fortunate for not having attacked Ye Huan earlier. What Song Zhong didn’t know was that Ye Huan hadn’t taken any advantage over Jin Ling; in fact, he hadn’t even touched her hand. If it came down to it, all of this was merely Song Zhong’s speculation. If Ye Huan were aware of his thoughts at that moment, he would probably be laughing uncontrollably.
"What’s wrong? No one wants to take revenge on me? Well, fine then. I have no interest in fighting you all. Go back and tell Gu Long that if the lesson I taught him last time wasn’t deep enough, then I, Ye Huan, am always available at Yuxu Palace for further instruction."
Continuing to play the part of a master, Ye Huan was getting into character. No matter how awesome he claimed to be or how he mentioned Gu Long being injured by him, it only reinforced Song Zhong’s earlier suspicions. Moreover, when Gu Long sent someone to relay messages about his injury, it made Song Zhong even more convinced.
However, while Ye Huan spoke these words, neither he nor Song Zhong and his group of Heavenly Dragon Sect's Ten Protectors noticed a figure lurking behind a large rock not far from them on the West Coast. A man dressed in black had appeared there at some point and was listening intently to every word exchanged between Ye Huan and Song Zhong…
