Chapter 216: The Search for the Holy Dragon (Part Five)
Perhaps due to the flames burning nearby, two full hours passed without a single sight of a magical beast, not even an ant. This made Ye Huan completely let down his guard, and he plopped down on the ground. Occasionally glancing at Ye Luo, Ye Huan pondered how he could quickly enhance his strength in such a short time, lost in thought and oblivious to the fact that a group of creatures the size of hyenas had already burrowed into the roaring fire, their blood-red eyes fixated on Ye Huan and Ye Luo.
Time passed without him noticing, and just as Ye Huan was still racking his brain for a solution aside from the high-level Beast Inner Pill, Ye Luo let out a comfortable moan and slowly opened his eyes. After sensing his newfound power, he exclaimed with delight, "Young Master, I’ve become a Ninth-Level Practitioner! I’ve become a Ninth-Level Practitioner!"
"It’s just a Ninth-Level Practitioner; is it really worth making such a fuss? Wait… Ninth-Level Practitioner?"
Caught up in his own thoughts about how to improve his strength, Ye Huan initially didn’t react much to Ye Luo’s words. However, when he finally processed what he heard, he realized that in such a short time, after swallowing just two Eighth-Level Practitioner inner pills, Ye Luo had become a Ninth-Level Practitioner?!
What kind of Spirit Pearl is this? It’s too outrageous!
Ye Huan scrutinized Ye Luo's robust physique for quite some time, feeling as though Ye Luo was joking. He couldn’t help but ask again, "Really? Ye Butler, you’re not pulling my leg, are you?"
"Young Master, I’m serious! I really have become a Ninth-Level Warrior! Just look!"
With excitement written all over his face, Ye Luo drew the long sword he always carried at his waist and presented it before Ye Huan. Instantly, a dazzling white light erupted from the sword, unmistakably the sword aura possessed by a Ninth-Level Warrior. If it weren’t for the Ninth-Level Practitioner’s ability to condense Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy within their body, the milky white sword aura alone wouldn’t be able to emit such brilliant light.
Seeing the radiant glow on the sword before him, Ye Huan truly believed what Ye Luo said. However, he still couldn’t comprehend how just two Eighth-Level Magical Beast inner pills could elevate Ye Luo from an Eighth-Level Practitioner to a Ninth-Level Practitioner.
The more he thought about it, the more unbelievable it seemed. So he directly asked Ye Luo, "Ye Butler, if warriors can use this so-called Spirit Pearl to advance an entire level, what about Professionals? Is there any shortcut?"
"Um... there should be something, right? Why don't you ask your master, Young Master?"
After recalling for a moment, Ye Huan vaguely remembered that every profession should have many techniques and methods to enhance their strength as they approached their peak. However, since he was not a summoner, Ye Luo could only give such a response to Ye Huan, which left Ye Huan feeling quite frustrated. Yes, he also wanted to ask his master, but who told him that his rebellious master, Durei IV, had already been sent to hell by his own hands?
Constantly repeating the phrase "A master leads you to the door; your cultivation depends on yourself" in his mind, Ye Huan, whose hopes had been dashed, was too lazy to search for any tricks. If all else failed, he could just go on a rampage in the Northern Liang Mountain Range, specifically targeting Eighth-Level Magical Beasts. If one inner core wasn't enough, then two would do; if two couldn't enhance his strength, surely a hundred would work? If that still didn't help, Ye Huan wouldn't mind collecting thousands of Eighth-Level Monster Cores—provided there were that many Eighth-Level Magical Beasts in the Northern Liang Mountain Range.
Thinking of the most practical idea, he looked around and noticed the raging flames spreading everywhere. Ye Huan couldn't help but speak to Ye Luo: "Ye Butler, you've absorbed the Beast Inner Pill and your strength has risen to that of a Ninth-Level Practitioner. Shouldn't we continue our journey towards the center of the Northern Liang Mountain Range?"
Nodding and retracting his sword, Ye Luo had no objections. After all, they had come to the Northern Liang Mountain Range specifically to seek out the legendary Tenth-Level Beast known as the Holy Dragon.
As he took a step forward, perhaps due to the heightened awareness of danger that came with being a Ninth-Level Practitioner, Ye Luo suddenly sensed something was off. He hurriedly grabbed Ye Huan, who was about to move, and said, "Young Master, don't you think it's too quiet here?"
"Of course! Would you want to dive into the fire?"
Rolling his eyes, Ye Huan truly doubted whether Ye Luo belonged to that type of person whose courage diminished as their strength increased. To him, aside from the surrounding flames, all that remained was black ash. With the trees ignited by fire, the nearby environment was clearly visible; could there really be magical beasts lurking around?
Ignoring Ye Huan's expression entirely and acting as the diligent steward of the Ye Family—having received great kindness from both Ye Tian and Ye Huan—Ye Luo stood protectively behind Ye Huan and continued: "Young Master, even with a raging fire burning here, there is no shortage of flying magical beasts in the Northern Liang Mountain Range. Not to mention that there are flying magical beasts that originally lived here; have you seen any flying magical beasts pass overhead since the darkness was lifted?"
"Well..."
After pondering for a moment and realizing he had been somewhat distracted earlier, this small detail had indeed escaped Ye Huan's notice. Now hearing what Ye Luo said and connecting it with their surroundings, it seemed true that not a single flying magical beast had passed through this area.
'Could it be Fire Hounds?'
A creature mentioned by Ye Tian during his first departure from the Ye Family flashed through his mind. Ye Huan immediately became alert because he knew that Fire Hounds were similar to Bat Rats; they hunted in packs. Unlike Bat Rats, each Fire Hound possessed the strength of a Seventh-Level Magical Beast. Moreover, they could conceal themselves within flames and were incredibly fast—far more terrifying than other Seventh-Level pack-hunting beasts like Human Skin Trees. If they encountered them, there would be no choice but to fight for their lives.
Without hesitation, Ye Huan pulled out two M60 machine guns from the Spatial Ring. To confirm whether there were any Fire Hounds lurking in the flames, he gripped the guns tightly and pulled the triggers. However, as the gunfire echoed, there was no movement from any of the flames, which made Ye Huan breathe a sigh of relief.
Yet, just as Ye Huan removed his finger from the trigger and the gunfire ceased, a bullet struck the ice armor that had fallen from a Frost Lizard, producing a crisp sound. In that moment, both Ye Huan and Ye Luo felt their hearts leap into their throats.
Quickly retracting the M60s, this time Ye Huan grabbed an RPG Rocket Launcher. He wanted to see if the creatures that could withstand bullets from an M60 could endure the impact of an RPG rocket.
With a loud roar, he fired the RPG Rocket Launcher into a swirling mass of flames, resulting in a deafening explosion. Subsequently, a creature resembling a hyena was blasted out with its abdomen torn apart, letting out a mournful cry.
Shocked, they turned their gaze toward the creature. Upon seeing its hyena-like head and the flames continuously burning on its body, Ye Huan was one hundred percent certain that it was indeed a Fire Hound. After all, who had ever seen a hyena engulfed in flames?
Retrieving another RPG Rocket Launcher, he fired at the same spot again. Then Ye Huan tossed aside the rocket launcher and charged forward after the rocket. He didn’t forget to shout to Ye Luo, “Ye Butler, run!”
Almost instantly, upon hearing Ye Huan's words, Ye Luo took off running alongside him, both racing along the trajectory of the previous rocket.
Unlike last time, when the rocket reached the flames where the Fire Hound had been hiding, it faced almost no resistance as it pierced through. It only exploded upon colliding with a tree large enough for two people to embrace. Just as the rocket detonated, Ye Huan and Ye Luo leaped out from the flames and rolled on the ground twice.
Without wasting any time, after passing through the fiery area, they quickly got back on their feet and continued running forward. Behind them, countless burning flames revealed pairs of eyes that glowed like embers, all fixated on the Fire Hound that had been struck by the rocket before shifting their attention to Ye Huan and Ye Luo.
In the next moment, when Ye Huan and Ye Luo were about thirty meters away from the nearest flame, numerous Fire Hounds emerged from within. While not as terrifying in number as swarming Bat Rats, there were still no fewer than a hundred present. It was important to note that these were Seventh-Level Magical Beasts; being bitten by one would hurt far more than being bitten by a Bat Rat!
Feeling something pursuing them from behind and knowing it was indeed those Seventh-Level Magical Beasts—Fire Hounds—Ye Huan and Ye Luo instinctively turned their heads to confirm their numbers. But upon seeing so many Fire Hounds behind them, they hurriedly turned away and ran even faster, terrified of being caught and becoming their next meal.
“Damn it! If I survive this time, I’m never coming back to Northern Liang Mountain Range again!”
As they ran while cursing under his breath, Ye Huan felt that perhaps he had been particularly unlucky this time. First encountering Bat Rats was bad enough; then he had to deal with two Eighth-Level Magical Beasts and ended up injured. Now he was being chased by a horde of Fire Hounds. Although he had obtained two Eighth-Level Magical Beast cores, the cost did not match up with what he gained at all.
Fortune and misfortune are intertwined, and perhaps even Ye Huan did not realize that they were indeed being pursued by a group of Seventh-Level Magical Beasts. However, this chase had increased their speed to an astonishing pace of nearly fifteen hundred meters per minute. At this rate, after running for twenty or thirty minutes, they could very well reach the heart of the Northern Liang Mountain Range.
One minute, two minutes, three minutes...
Like a desperate marathon, after five full minutes of frantic running, not only was Ye Huan, the Cultivator and Summoner, out of breath, but even Ye Luo, the Ninth Level Warrior, was gasping heavily. He turned to Ye Huan and said, "Young Master, I really can't keep running... How about I hold off these Fire Hounds? You run as far as you can and don’t come back..."
Hold off the Fire Hounds? With such a large group of Seventh-Level Magical Beasts, staying behind would surely mean certain death. Therefore, without a second thought, Ye Huan immediately rejected Ye Luo's suggestion. "No way! If you die, we all die together. If I leave you behind, my father will definitely tear me apart!"
"But..."
Glancing back and seeing a large dog with a mouth nearly twenty centimeters wide about to bite his rear end, Ye Luo felt like giving up. Just then, Ye Huan reached out a hand and pulled him sharply to one side. They suddenly found themselves in a relatively open area. Before them lay the Summoning Book, which had conveniently flipped to the page depicting the Type 99 Main Battle Tank.
In fact, whether or not he had the Summoning Book did not significantly affect Ye Huan's ability to summon. However, having the Summoning Book allowed him to summon large Arms much faster than without it. This was evident when the Summoning Book appeared; Ye Huan pressed his hand downwards and a mass of Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy quickly gathered into six steel plates that surrounded both him and Ye Luo.
With these steel plates in place, a loud crash echoed as the Fire Hounds collided with them unexpectedly. Their sharp teeth sank into the steel plates, leaving deep bite marks—some as long as several dozen centimeters. Fortunately, the armor of the Type 99 Main Battle Tank was at least one meter thick, so it should hold up for a while.
Sitting down on the ground and panting heavily, Ye Huan and Ye Luo finally had a moment to rest. However, within just a few seconds, an intense heat filled the tank from every direction, forcing both of them to stand up again.
If they had been outside at that moment, they would have noticed that over a hundred Fire Hounds were pressed against the side of the Type 99 Main Battle Tank, clearly trying to ignite it with their body heat...
