Chapter 177: The Battle of Xuanling Pass (6)
---
Xuanling Pass, after the bombardment, had clearly turned into a wasteland, making it difficult for ordinary people to pass through. However, for the members of Dragon Hall driving military Hummers, this desolation was easily ignored. The military Hummers moved like fierce beasts, treating the ruins of Xuanling Pass as nothing, swiftly navigating over the rubble and quickly reaching the rear of the Japanese army.
As soon as they spotted the Eastern Soldiers, the members of Dragon Hall were filled with excitement, as if they were donned in battle gear and helmets. They showed no fear of the bows and crossbows wielded by the numerous Eastern Soldiers. Instead, they opened hatches on top of the military Hummers and mounted M60 machine guns.
With a rapid series of gunfire, one hundred fifty military Hummers lined up in formation, unleashing a deafening roar from one hundred fifty M60s. The soldiers at the back of the Japanese army were instantly turned into targets, their lives being mercilessly harvested.
It was no wonder that the Japanese soldiers were in such disarray; facing powerful heavy machine guns, they were unable to organize any effective resistance against the Eastern Soldiers. It was akin to harvesting wheat.
In this deadly competition, after suffering from C4 explosions and then being pursued by Dragon Hall's members, the Eastern Soldiers exerted every ounce of strength to run forward. However fast they ran, they could not match the speed of military Hummers. Thus, nearly every Eastern Soldier faced a grim fate—death!
Meanwhile, not far from Xuanling Pass in Tianyue City, Weiyang and others were deeply worried, fearing that something might happen to the members of Dragon Hall. After all, not everyone was like Ye Huan; not everyone could bring unexpected surprises like he did.
"Hey, I say, Fatty, should we take some people to Tianyue City to check? Otherwise, I can't shake off this feeling of unease."
Unable to contain himself any longer, Zhang Ren, who had fought alongside Ye Huan through thick and thin, spoke up to Weiyang. This immediately earned him an eye roll from Weiyang, who muttered under his breath, "Which eye of yours saw me as Fatty? But speaking of which, I am a bit worried about those Dragon Hall members. Although they are all Ye Huan's subordinates, they are also his only force at present!"
Since everyone had been somewhat silent before this point, Weiyang's words naturally caught everyone's attention. They nodded in agreement with what Weiyang said. Zuo Yi was the first to speak up: "How about we go check on them now?"
"Alright, let's go now!"
As soon as Zuo Yi's words fell, everyone instantly expressed their agreement. Even the Han Sisters seemed to be worried about Ye Huan's safety and nodded in response. However, it was unfortunate that a few older gentlemen were present, and since Tianyue City needed someone to stay behind, the Han Sisters were the first to be left out. Additionally, Ye San had some trouble with his legs, so he naturally couldn't go either.
After some discussion, they mounted several swift horses. Weiyang, Zhang Ren, and Zuo Yi quickly left Tianyue City, heading straight for the location of Xuanling Pass.
About an hour later, after a hurried journey, when Weiyang and the others arrived at Xuanling Pass, all three of them couldn't help but rub their eyes in disbelief, as if they had witnessed the most incredible sight in the world.
But it wasn't their fault. The former Xuanling Pass had stretched over three thousand meters and stood more than twenty meters high, capable of accommodating twenty thousand people at once. Yet now, what lay before Weiyang and the others was merely a wasteland. They saw nothing but ruins, and beneath the debris, a large amount of blood had turned the area around Xuanling Pass into a scene reminiscent of a dying sunset. If they turned over a couple of discarded stones, they could still see numerous bodies buried beneath Xuanling Pass.
"What the hell happened here?"
Looking around, Weiyang couldn't help but curse. The worry on his face never faded; after all, Xuanling Pass was destroyed, and Ye Huan and the others should have returned by now. But where were Ye Huan and the members of the Three Hundred Dragon Hall?
After lingering for a while without seeing any sign of Ye Huan and the others, Weiyang and Zuo Yi decided to climb up to the top of the abandoned Xuanling Pass.
Although Xuanling Pass had collapsed, it once stood at a height of twenty meters. The rubble from its collapse had formed small hills; in fact, some parts were even over ten meters high. Weiyang and the others climbed to the highest point of the ruins of Xuanling Pass and looked out towards the distance. What they saw was a horrifying scene.
Rivers of blood flowed everywhere, and corpses littered the ground…
In every direction visible to Weiyang and his companions lay this gruesome sight. Occasionally, they spotted flags from Eastern Yamato Country mixed among the chaos, while swords and other weapons were strewn across the blood-soaked ground. One could only imagine what kind of fate these Japanese soldiers had suffered.
Gulp...
Swallowing hard, the three of them, Weiyang, felt their hearts race at the sight before them. Even though they had not participated in the battle, witnessing this scene was enough to leave them shaken. In comparison, their previous escapades with Ye Huan during the Trial Assembly and their encounters with the Han family seemed trivial; they were hardly a fraction of the intensity of this war.
As Weiyang and his companions were lost in their thoughts, at the end of the road paved with corpses, one hundred and fifty military Hummers had been stained red with blood and were slowly making their way toward them. Although they moved at a leisurely pace, even a Ninth Level Warrior would feel an overwhelming sense of dread upon seeing these bloodied military vehicles amidst the battlefield littered with bodies.
“It’s Ye Huan! It’s Ye Huan!”
As they drew closer and recognized the man in the driver's seat of the leading military Hummer, Zuo Yi was the first to shout in excitement, his fists clenched tightly.
None of them had expected to see Zuo Yi and his companions here. Upon arriving at the ruins beneath Xuanling Pass, Ye Huan emerged from the Military Hummer, looking spirited. In contrast, the members of Dragon Hall appeared particularly drained. Although they were all Fifth-Level Warriors, the toll from such a massacre had pushed their stamina to its limits; it was only natural for them to be in such a state.
“Weiyang, Zuo Yi, Zhang Ren, how did you three end up here?”
Reaching the highest point of the Abandoned Wall at Xuanling Pass and looking at the three before him, Ye Huan couldn’t help but voice his confusion. He wanted to understand what had brought them here. However, Weiyang and his friends were at a loss for words; they couldn’t very well say they came out of concern for the members of Dragon Hall, could they? That would imply a lack of trust in Ye Huan.
