Chapter One Hundred Fifty-Seven: The Experiment
In the dead of night, aside from the stretcher that had been brought in by the Eastern Ninja, there was no sign of any of them. Ye Huan couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss. He stepped into the room, intending to observe closely.

As he took a step forward, his leather boot struck the ground, producing a dull thud that felt nothing like stepping on solid ground. The reason for this effect was simple: the floor of this room was hollow!
With a little thought, Ye Huan deduced that there must be a secret chamber beneath him. This could explain why the Eastern Ninja and the stretcher had vanished, as well as where all the people from Willow Village had gone during the day.
Looking around, he found no mechanisms to open a hidden chamber except for the solitary wooden bed. Not wanting to linger, Ye Huan moved beside the bed and began to examine it meticulously, leaving no corner unchecked. Soon, he discovered something unusual beneath it.
It was a hole—an artificially dug pit in the ground—not very deep. Using his military flashlight to peer down, Ye Huan saw that it was only about three meters deep before reaching solid ground. Without hesitation, he jumped down and landed easily on the ground below.
Upon landing, his surroundings revealed a different scene altogether. Beneath Willow Village lay an intricate network of paths spreading out like a spider web from the entrance of this pit, twisting and turning like a maze. In some areas, there were scattered iron spikes and hoes—tools evidently used for recent excavation.
Why would those people from Eastern Yamato Country go to such lengths to construct an underground maze here in Willow Village?
With various questions swirling in his mind, Ye Huan turned off his military flashlight, plunging the underground space into darkness once more. He then remembered to pull out the triangular bayonet strapped to his leg, gripping it tightly in his hand as he cautiously began to explore further, determined to uncover the secrets hidden within Willow Village.
As Ye Huan navigated through the many twists and turns of the Underground Maze, he left behind traces of his own Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy on the walls to ensure he could find his way back.
After a while of winding through the maze, dim oil lamps began to flicker on the walls, confirming Ye Huan's earlier suspicion that there were indeed many Eastern Ninjas present within the Underground Maze.
Using his Cultivator abilities, he extended his Divine Sense a short distance. However, when it reached the edges of two walls, it could not penetrate any further. Ye Huan cursed the Eastern Ninjas for digging so many tunnels underground instead of simply constructing an underground plaza. After all, the abilities of a Cultivator had their limitations. For instance, if he were in the air, Ye Huan could use his Divine Sense to detect anomalies within a ten-mile radius. But on the ground, obstructed by buildings or plants, that range shrank to just one mile. As for underground, it was even worse; at most, he could only sense about ten meters before losing effectiveness. Clearly, Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy was completely hindered below ground.
Frustrated, he retracted his Divine Sense. Ye Huan understood that the more populated an area was, the greater the risk of exposure. He became increasingly cautious. However, as fate would have it, just a short distance later, a long knife suddenly emerged from the left wall and shot toward Ye Huan's head with lightning speed. At the same time, heavy steel chains secured his legs, leaving him unable to evade the attack aimed at his upper body.
Caught off guard and unprepared for such an ambush, Ye Huan instinctively blocked with his right hand gripping a Triangular Bayonet as the knife came within mere centimeters of his head. In a rush, he used his free left hand to draw out a D80 Tiger Tooth Bayonet and thrust it toward where the long knife had emerged from the wall, hoping to probe for any living presence.

The sound of metal meeting metal rang out as the Triangular Bayonet clashed with the long knife. Ye Huan felt distinctly that his Tiger Tooth Bayonet had penetrated something soft rather than striking against a hard wall. This confirmed that there was indeed someone nearby.
"Interesting. Not even my Divine Sense can detect them? No wonder Eastern Yamato Country has abandoned traditional warriors in favor of turning their people into ninjas..."
With a swift pull and thrust, seeing blood splattered on his Tiger Tooth Bayonet made Ye Huan realize he had been discovered by his opponent. Without hesitation, he continued to stab twice more with the Tiger Tooth Bayonet until he felt no pressure against his Triangular Bayonet that was locked in combat with the long knife.
After Ye Huan ceased his movements, a figure slowly fell from the wall onto the ground. The person had several bloody wounds in their abdomen and wore a tight-fitting yellowish outfit—clearly one of those ninjas who had just attacked him. Yet Ye Huan couldn't fathom how these ninjas managed to blend into the wall using nothing but their clothing as a distraction.
Knowing there was no time to waste pondering this question, Ye Huan set aside his curiosity after dispatching this ninja and turned his attention to the steel chains binding his legs. A hint of disdain crossed his lips as he boldly stepped forward and used his physical strength to wrench those chains free from the wall, sending debris flying as he took large strides ahead.
Meanwhile, hidden away in a corner since Ye Huan entered this Underground Maze's entrance room, several Eastern Ninjas who were aware of his arrival watched intently from behind a wall. They were utterly astonished when they saw this intruder effortlessly kill one of their scouts and then break free from his restraints with sheer force.
Until Ye Huan disappeared around a corner, a man dressed in a black bodysuit emerged from the wall. He lightly tapped his fingers on the surface and whispered in a hoarse voice, "Quick, you all go move that 'Specimen' that was brought in this evening. The rest of you, block this intruder. We cannot let him ruin our experiment, no matter what!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the Eastern Ninja slipped back into the wall, completely unaware that Ye Huan had already left. A glint of ruthlessness flashed across Ye Huan's face. Although Divine Sense could not penetrate walls thicker than about ten meters underground, in this unobstructed passage, Ye Huan clearly heard the Eastern Ninja's words through his Divine Sense.
The Specimen brought in during the evening—if Ye Huan remembered correctly, aside from that stretcher, no items had been sent into the room at the entrance of the Underground Maze earlier that afternoon. It seemed these people were using humans for experiments.
Regardless of whether that person was from Huaxia Nation or not, just the thought of using human bodies for experimentation made Ye Huan feel an inexplicable sense of disgust...
