Chapter 115: The Cultivator and the Outstanding Cultivator
------------
The path leading to Yuxu Palace was paved with Azure Stone Slabs, said to have been constructed by the First Generation Leader of Yuxu Palace using supreme celestial techniques. Whether this was true or not was beyond verification, but it was undeniable that the higher one climbed, the more abundant the Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy became. If one could endure the cold, hunger, and lack of oxygen while traversing this path over thirty thousand meters high, it would greatly benefit their future cultivation.
Unfortunately, Ye Huan had never been one to play by the rules. As an Arms Summoner, he could not forgive himself if he didn’t take advantage of his innate abilities. With dawn breaking but a hazy mist still shrouding the sky without a hint of sunlight, Ye Huan made up his mind and took out the 2012 Arms Compendium.
He summoned a pile of Tactical Suits and tore them into strips. Then he summoned a Military Lighter to ignite those strips. Thus, on the ethereal Yuxu Peak, Ye Huan started a fire!
After warming himself and eating some Military Rations to regain some strength, Ye Huan extinguished the fire and prepared to continue his ascent. However, as he looked up, an old face appeared before him.
“Who allowed you to make a fire on Yuxu Peak?”
It was evident that the owner of this old face was furious; the deep wrinkles formed strange crevices that startled Ye Huan. He timidly asked, “Who are you?”
“Who am I? I am the current leader of Yuxu Palace, Yu Wuxia!” The old man said angrily, casting a resentful glance at the two Azure Stone Slabs that had been charred by the fire, feeling a pang in his heart.
If Qian Erlang and Mu Ziling were present, they would surely exclaim "Current Leader!" Unfortunately, they were not there, and Ye Huan had no concept of what a leader entailed. He even muttered softly, “I didn’t want to start a fire either; it’s so cold here. Ultimately, isn’t it your fault for building Yuxu Peak so high?”
Hearing these words clearly, Yu Wuxia's mouth twitched slightly. With a wave of his hand, he swept Ye Huan up and headed toward the mountain peak.
They quickly reached the summit where Yu Wuxia threw Ye Huan heavily onto the ground. Coldly, he asked, “Tell me, did you come from Nine Provinces Continent?”
Dazed from being thrown down, Ye Huan shook his head vigorously before answering with a ‘yes.’ He then began to survey his surroundings. The first thing that caught his eye was a stone tablet clearly inscribed with the three characters "Yuxu Palace." Several thatched cottages were built nearby, and there was also a large open space next to them whose purpose was unclear—indeed resembling a secluded retreat.
Perhaps disturbed by the commotion outside, many young Daoists dressed in Dao Robes emerged from the cottages and curiously gazed at Ye Huan while whispering among themselves:
“Who is that guy? How did he end up in our Yuxiao Palace?”
“I don’t know. By the way, didn’t Junior Brother Mu Zi say he brought someone back from Nine Provinces Continent? Could it be him?”
“Hey, keep your voices down! Don’t you fear being overheard by the Current Leader?”
Noticing the stir among many disciples of Yuxu Palace, Yu Wuxia shot them an annoyed glare. Instantly, they scattered like birds startled from their perch; it was clear that Yu Wuxia had established considerable authority within Yuxu Palace.
After all the thatched cottages had tightly closed their doors, Yu Wuxia finally shifted his gaze back to Ye Huan, who was still looking around curiously. He said, "Alright, stop looking. This is just where the Fourth Generation Disciples live. There's nothing interesting here. Come with me!"
With that, Yu Wuxia turned and walked in a specific direction, revealing the back of his Dao Robe, which bore no nine stars, no white cranes, and certainly no Tai Chi symbols—only a golden dragon!
'How strange, what does the golden dragon on the Dao Robe signify?'
Ye Huan hurriedly followed Yu Wuxia, glancing back at him in surprise. Even at an altitude of thirty thousand meters, he felt no discomfort whatsoever.
Soon, after walking several hundred meters with Yu Wuxia, an ancient and elegant building appeared in Ye Huan's view atop Yuxu Peak. It covered no less than a thousand square meters and bore an uncanny resemblance to structures from the Nine Provinces Continent and Huaxia Nation—red walls on all sides, a glazed golden roof, and a crystal plaque hanging above inscribed with the words "Yu Xu," written in a vigorous hand that seemed far from the abode of cultivators.
"Kid, are you impressed?" Seeing Ye Huan's wide-eyed expression, Yu Wuxia seemed quite pleased and asked him.
Scratching his head in confusion and sensing no malice from Yu Wuxia, Ye Huan decided to speak honestly: "I am impressed, but shouldn't cultivators be pursuing a life free of desires? Look at where those disciples live compared to where you reside; why do I feel like they are the true cultivators?"
Furrowing his brow, Yu Wuxia did not argue but instead pointed at the main hall of Yuxu Palace and asked Ye Huan, "If it were up to you, would you rather live here or in a thatched cottage?"
"Of course here."
Without hesitation, Ye Huan answered, not fully grasping Yu Wuxia's intent.
"Then that's settled! Anyone can see this place is better. Why would I want to live where the Fourth Generation Disciples do?" Laughing heartily, Yu Wuxia entered Yuxu Palace, prompting Ye Huan to hurry after him.
The interior of Yuxu Palace felt entirely different from its exterior. Inside, people were bustling about; countless individuals clad in Dao Robes moved in and out. Ye Huan couldn't tell what they were busy with, but their faces clearly indicated they were older than the Fourth Generation Disciples—likely the third and second generation disciples of Yuxu Palace.
They arrived at the very center of Yuxu Palace and found a room to sit down. Without any pretense of politeness, Yu Wuxia directly addressed Ye Huan: "I know your name is Ye Huan and that you came here 'by chance' from the Nine Provinces Continent. But can you tell me why you came to Eastern State?"
Hearing this question, Ye Huan figured there was no point in hiding anything since he was already far from the Nine Provinces Continent. He recounted everything to the head of Yuxu Palace sitting before him, especially regarding the individual wielding the Crimson Beauty Sword, eager to see if Yu Wuxia knew anything about him.
"Crimson Beauty Sword? Could it be that old fellow Lingxiao?"
As expected, upon hearing about the Crimson Beauty Sword, Yu Wuxia appeared somewhat uncertain. This revelation informed Ye Huan that the one possessing the Crimson Beauty Sword was indeed called Lingxiao. However, Ye Huan chose not to speak further; he had already disclosed everything necessary and now awaited what Yu Wuxia would say next. After all, he couldn't believe that Yu Wuxia had brought him here without any ulterior motive.
After a long silence, when Yu Wuxia finally spoke again, he did not mention anything about their previous conversation but instead looked at Ye Huan with keen interest before asking: "Ye Huan, would you be interested in becoming my disciple?"
"I won't settle for being a Fourth Generation Disciple; I'll only stay as a second generation disciple. Additionally, I must be provided with a Flying Sword and plenty of spiritual pills..."
Since Mu Ziling and Qian Erlang had already hinted to Ye Huan that he might also be a genius in cultivation, he listed everything he could think of without hesitation—asking for an exorbitant price while waiting for Yu Wuxia to negotiate.
Unexpectedly, Yu Wuxia merely nodded, a faint smile lingering on her face, which made Ye Huan wonder to himself, 'Could it be that I really am a genius?'
However, the next moment, Yu Wuxia shattered Ye Huan's fantasy with her words: "A Nine Provinces Summoner with impurities still remaining in their body cannot become an outstanding Cultivator, no matter how good their talent is. How can you ask me for this and that?"
Yu Wuxia was not wrong. There had been people from the Nine Provinces Continent who had come to Eastern State before. As long as they had not become Professionals, they indeed possessed exceptional talent in cultivation. However, once someone became a Professional, there was almost no hope left for them in the path of Cultivation.
After hearing Yu Wuxia's explanation and reflecting on the ups and downs of life, Ye Huan finally managed to squeeze out a question: "Are you serious? I really can't become a Cultivator?"
"Becoming a Cultivator is not impossible, but to become a good Cultivator... that might be..."
With a smile directed at Ye Huan, Yu Wuxia gently shook her head. After letting out a sigh, she stood up. It seemed she suddenly thought of something and said to Ye Huan again, "By the way, if you are willing to give up your powers as a Summoner, then becoming an outstanding Cultivator is not out of the question."
Both Summoners and Cultivators absorb Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy for cultivation. The difference lies in that Summoners store Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy in their Summoning Books and replenish it from the world when used up. In contrast, Cultivators store Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy within their Dantian, continuously refining it until it transforms from quantity into quality, fundamentally integrating Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy into their bodies. The superiority of one over the other is evident.
If it weren't for the 2012 Arms Compendium, it would be hard to say whether Ye Huan would give up his identity as a Summoner. However, with the 2012 Arms Compendium in hand, abandoning his role as a Summoner to become a Cultivator—even if Ye Huan had great talent—who knows how long it would take him to surpass Lingxiao? By then, Lingxiao might have aged significantly.
Thinking of this, Ye Huan smacked his lips and settled for a compromise: "I won't give up my identity as a Summoner. Can I stay at Yuxu Palace as a Fourth Generation Disciple to learn?"
