Chapter One Hundred and Four: Strong Comeback (Part Two)
People are divided into different ranks, and the professional realm is no exception. Some individuals spend their entire lives only reaching the Third Rank, which is already quite impressive. Those who are slightly more skilled can walk confidently at the Fourth Rank in a town. However, there are others with exceptional talent who often find themselves stuck at a certain threshold—Fifth Rank, Sixth Rank, Seventh Rank… The higher one goes, the harder it becomes to break through.
Then there are those whose talents are extraordinary, almost sailing smoothly through their cultivation. Such individuals are rare across the entire Nine Provinces Continent. For instance, Ye Tian is one of them; in his youth, many directly praised him as a genius. Now, the Ye Family has another genius among geniuses—Ye Huan!
Yet, Ye Huan often feels dissatisfied with his own rate of advancement…
Noticing the astonished expression on Zuo Yi's face, although he hadn’t learned how to use Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy to probe others' levels from Durei IV, Ye Huan could sense a faint aura of spiritual energy surrounding him.
He attempted to release a bit of his own Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy, but as soon as it left his body, it quickly dissipated into the air. This confirmed for Ye Huan that Zuo Yi was currently checking his level. Unable to hold back, he said to Zuo Yi, “Zuo Yi, don’t you think it’s a bit impolite to probe someone like this?”
With his mouth agape in shock, Zuo Yi looked at Ye Huan as if he were a monster. It’s important to note that probing techniques are generally hard to detect unless one has crossed several ranks.
After a long moment, Zuo Yi snapped back to reality. The first thing he did was grab Ye Huan's arm and ask urgently, “Ye Huan, what level are you at now?”
Looking at Zuo Yi in confusion, Ye Huan felt there was no need to hide and simply replied with the truth: “Fifth Level Pinnacle. What’s wrong?”
“I can’t believe this…”
Upon hearing Ye Huan's answer, Zuo Yi nearly lost his mind and cursed out loud. If he remembered correctly, what level had Ye Huan been at the last time he visited? And now, after such a short time, he had reached Fifth Level Pinnacle—he was now on par with Zuo Yi!
Looking speechless at Zuo Yi, Ye Huan still didn’t understand what was causing Zuo Yi’s outburst and cautiously asked, “Zuo Yi, I came back to Huaxia Nation just to find you. Aren’t you going to invite me in?”
Speaking of which, after returning to Huaxia Nation, Ye Huan initially planned to head straight to Huaxia Imperial Capital to uproot Dragon Hall entirely. However, being completely broke made that impossible; he couldn’t survive on military rations alone every day! That would be quite the predicament.
"Oh right, I almost forgot. Come on, go take a shower and change your clothes. Let's head into the city for a couple of drinks!" Hearing Ye Huan's reminder, Zuo Yi smiled as he put his arm around Ye Huan's shoulder and led him toward the barracks. Since they were located at the border and the military camp was not in the city, getting drinks meant they had to go into Sky Star City.
With Zuo Yi's arm around him, Ye Huan felt uncomfortable after days without a shower and constant running around. He nodded in agreement.
Once inside the barracks, they sent two soldiers to boil some hot water while Zuo Yi and Ye Huan casually chatted about recent happenings at the border and any news from Huaxia Nation. However, what concerned Ye Huan the most was the little princess who had taken a blade for him. He couldn't help but ask Zuo Yi how Princess Zhao Ziyu was doing lately.
"The little princess? Well..."
Seeing the expression on Ye Huan's face regarding his relationship with the little princess, Zuo Yi scratched his nose and hesitated.
Feeling something was off, Ye Huan worried that Zhao Ziyu might have contracted tetanus or something after taking that blow for him. He abruptly stood up, unable to sit still any longer, and anxiously asked, "What happened to her? Just tell me!"
"Calm down, calm down... I'll just be honest! After your Ye Family left Huaxia Nation, an envoy from Goryeo came to Huaxia requesting a marriage alliance with Zhao Wujie. So... I won't say more."
Goryeo was a tiny nation next to Huaxia Nation. Due to certain special reasons, Ye Huan, who had come from the Twenty-First Century to this world, felt a strong aversion to this country. Just hearing its name made him want to erase it from his mind. Moreover, there was another country that gave Ye Huan even more headaches—Eastern Ying Fusang. Compared to Goryeo's territory, Eastern Yamato Country was practically a speck of land. At times when he had nothing better to do, Ye Huan fantasized about reaching the Ninth Level and summoning a nuclear bomb just to throw it over there for fun.
Additionally, Ye Huan found it hard to understand how such a vast nation like Huaxia could be pressured by a mere Goryeo into marrying off Zhao Ziyu. Was Zhao Wujie really that incompetent?
His impression of Zhao Wujie had sunk so low that he felt like storming into the Huaxia Imperial Palace right then and there to point at his nose and curse him out to vent his frustration. Therefore, he directly told Zuo Yi that he was leaving.
"Hey now, Ye Huan, what did we just say? Don't get too worked up. You've come all this way; what's another day or two?"
Seeing Ye Huan almost walk out the door with an air of tension hanging in the atmosphere, Zuo Yi hurriedly grabbed him and tried to reason with him.
Taking a deep breath and closing his eyes to shake off Zhao Wujie's irritating face from his mind, Ye Huan considered that Zuo Yi did have a point. As long as the little princess remained in Huaxia Nation, he wouldn't mind going to Goryeo to bring her back if necessary.
Before long, the hot water was ready, and a large wooden tub was brought into the barracks. Perhaps trying to calm Ye Huan's mood, Zuo Yi smiled at him and said, "Ye Huan, cool down a bit. Take a hot bath. If you really can't relax, I can have someone bring you some rose petals."
"Get lost! I'm not some delicate flower; don't bring me useless stuff..." Knowing that Zuo Yi meant well, Ye Huan couldn't help but laugh while the face of Han Lin floated into his mind.
After a brief pause, he removed his upper clothing, revealing his well-defined muscles. Ye Huan picked up a towel nearby, muttering, "Actually, I ran into Han Lin during my trip to the Southern Xiongnu Empire..."
"What?!" Upon hearing Han Lin's name, Zuo Yi's expression was as animated as Ye Huan's when he learned that the little princess was marrying into Goryeo. His face shifted from pale to flushed, and he nearly rushed over to grab Ye Huan and demand an explanation.
Knowing the history between Zuo Yi and Han Lin, Ye Huan recounted everything that had happened regarding Han Lin, including how Weiyang had gone to the royal capital to help Han Lin rescue someone.
After a long silence, Zuo Yi slowly walked out of the room, his face devoid of any expression. It was unclear what he was thinking. Ye Huan didn't know how to console him either; he could only sigh and remove his lower garments before diving into the wooden tub.
As his skin made contact with the hot water, a wave of comfort surged through Ye Huan's body, almost causing him to moan aloud. Meanwhile, in a small town within the Southern Xiongnu Empire, Lingxiao Taoist strode out of the town with the Crimson Beauty Sword in hand, grumbling, "This is the eleventh town! Damn Ye Huan, where on earth did he go?!"
...
After finishing his hot bath, Ye Huan didn't need the clothes Zuo Yi had prepared. With a thought, the 2012 Arms Compendium floated before him. He summoned a full set of Special Operations Gear and put it on. After donning his sunglasses again, he walked over to the only mirror in the room. To his surprise, he discovered that during his time in this world, his already long hair had grown nearly ten centimeters past his shoulders.
Looking around, he spotted a piece of red silk among Zuo Yi's prepared clothing. He quickly grabbed it and tore it apart, leaving just a small segment. He tied up his long hair at the back; while it wasn't particularly stylish, it exuded an unusual charm.
With a flick of his bangs, Ye Huan thought that if someone handed him a cigarette now, he could definitely rival 'Sharp Guy.'
He hurried out of the room and into the military camp. Upon seeing Zuo Yi, he noticed that the seriousness on Zuo Yi's face had vanished. Instead, Zuo Yi spoke first: "How was it? The rose petals were quite nice, right? Come on, let's go have a drink!"
With a playful punch to Zuo Yi's chest, they both mounted their swift horses and kicked up clouds of dust as they charged through the gates of Sky Star City. This drew complaints from the soldiers guarding the now-gate-less city.
"Hey? Today it's me guarding the gate and they dare act so arrogantly? Are they looking for death?"
"I think you're the one looking for death! That guy with the Jagged Blade on horseback is Zuo Yi, Captain of a Thousand. If he hears you, how many lives do you think you have for him to take?"
"Cut it out! I know that! I was talking about the one next to Zuo Yi! Look at him; he's got a red ribbon tied at the back of his head..."
Having overheard these soldiers' conversation clearly, Ye Huan couldn't help but think that tying a red ribbon was none of their business. He turned back to take another look.
Having killed quite a few people, Ye Huan now exuded a strong aura of menace. His eyes were as sharp as the eagles soaring high in the blue sky over the grasslands, startling the soldiers around him.
"Who is this guy? I feel like he's even more formidable than Zuo Yi, Captain of a Thousand..."
"I have that feeling too, and I think I've seen him somewhere before..."
"Hey, he looks a bit familiar!"
The two soldiers exchanged puzzled glances, and then they both turned their heads at the same time. Behind them, prominently displayed on a wooden board with government notices was Ye Huan's portrait. Next to it was a detailed account of his exploits, with one line added just today: "Single-handedly infiltrated the Southern Xiongnu Empire Palace, destroying a quarter of the entire palace..."
"It's him..." "It’s actually him..."
They said in unison, as if they could already see the crimson rain of blood falling over Sky Star City. Instinctively, they took a couple of steps back towards the city outskirts, as if that would guarantee their safety.
Of course, this was merely a trivial episode that did not affect Ye Huan's mood for drinking. Upon arriving at the only tavern in Sky Star City, he dismounted and walked straight through the entrance.
As was human nature, whenever someone appeared at the tavern door, patrons would scrutinize them from head to toe. This time was no exception; however, upon seeing Zuo Yi, their faces turned pale. It was no secret that Zuo Yi had played a significant role in ensuring Sky Star City's survival. His fearsome Jagged Blade had earned him considerable fame.
Consequently, the patrons' gazes shifted furtively towards Zuo Yi's companion, and their faces grew even paler. A few professionals began to murmur among themselves.
"Did you see that? That guy seems to be Ye Huan, wanted by both the government and Dragon Hall!"
"I noticed that already! Did you not see Zuo Yi sitting next to him? Trying anything here would be suicide!"
"Fortune favors the bold; I say we take a chance..."
Due to Ye Huan's rapid rise in levels, many wanted posters and notices had become somewhat chaotic regarding his rank. However, without exception, they all indicated he had reached at least Third-Rank Summoner status. This made some greedy individuals see Ye Huan as if he were gold itself.
Listening to the whispers around him, Ye Huan realized that he was now somewhat of a celebrity, even if it was for less than honorable reasons.
"Waiter, bring the wine! And two plates of beef, along with some stir-fried dishes!" Zuo Yi shouted loudly at the counter, completely unfazed by the commotion around him. His voice startled everyone in the tavern except for a few professionals, causing them to tremble in fear.
It seemed that Zuo Yi was no stranger to this establishment. After he finished speaking, the waiter responded promptly, "Got it! Coming right up!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the waiter dashed into the back kitchen and soon emerged with several plates of appetizers that appeared to be prepared specifically for Zuo Yi.
"Master Zuo, here are your favorite cold dishes, just as you ordered, with a bit more salt added..."
Balancing a tray in one hand while setting the dishes on the table with practiced ease, the waiter suddenly trembled when he noticed Ye Huan sitting nearby. His hand jerked uncontrollably, causing a plate of peanuts to tumble to the floor.
Crash...
The peanuts falling were inconsequential, but the sound of the plate shattering acted as a signal that put Ye Huan on high alert. With a swift motion, he drew a Desert Eagle into his hand...
