Chapter Ninety-Seven: Assault on Cining Palace (Part Two) 0

In truth, growing up under the influence of the internet, Ye Huan had never read any military texts. However, he had at least read the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and what left the deepest impression on him was how Zhuge Liang always seemed to set fires for no reason. Every time he read that part, Ye Huan felt that setting fires was hardly befitting of Zhuge Liang's enigmatic strategist persona. 0

Yet now, Ye Huan had to admit that starting a fire was indeed a good idea. 0

He summoned no less than a dozen incendiary devices and handed them all to Zhang Ren. In an instant, Zhang Ren understood Ye Huan's intent and dashed toward the main entrance of Cining Palace with a flashbang in hand. 0

With nothing else to do, and to prevent patrolling soldiers from noticing the situation at Clock Tower, Ye Huan set aside his M4A1 assault rifle and Barrett sniper rifle. He decided to set up an M60 general-purpose machine gun and didn’t forget to prepare two RPG rocket launchers as backup, effectively turning Clock Tower into a fortified stronghold. 0

Inside Cining Palace’s inner hall, listening to the occasional gunfire from outside, Ye Le's small face was filled with anticipation as she quietly asked Liu Ruyan, "Mother, is Father here to take us away?" 0

Leave? 0

With a bittersweet smile on her beautiful face, Liu Ruyan wanted to tell Ye Le that it was impossible for Ye Tian to come here right now. But seeing the expectation on Ye Le's face made it hard for her to voice those words. 0

"It’s not your father who has come; it should be your brother..." 0

Beside them, a White-Haired Elder raised his staff, creating a deep green barrier that blocked much of the tear gas. Without looking up, he said this calmly. 0

Upon hearing this, Liu Ruyan stood up abruptly, her eyes wide in shock as she exclaimed, "How is that possible!" 0

Beside her, Ye Le's mouth dropped open in disbelief, clearly expressing his skepticism towards the old man's words. 0

It was no wonder. They all remembered that when Ye Huan left the Ye Family, he was merely a first-level Summoner. How could it be possible that in such a short time, he had managed to infiltrate the palace of the Southern Xiongnu Empire all by himself? 0

The more they thought about it, the less likely it seemed. Liu Ruyan gently pressed her lips together and asked the White-Haired Elder, "Respected Mage, could you tell me how many people are outside?" 0

"Two. No more than that." 0

Closing his eyes, the White-Haired Elder still gripped his magic staff tightly, speaking as straight as a Ring-Handled Saber. 0

'Two? That must mean Ye Huan has found some strong allies.' 0

With the old man's response, Liu Ruyan couldn't help but ponder whether Ye Huan had made some powerful friends while out there. Otherwise, how could he possibly have the strength to breach the heavily guarded Southern Xiongnu Empire Palace all on his own? 0

Glancing at the dozens of high-level Professionals around her, Liu Ruyan became even more convinced of her thoughts. After all, something worth a group of Eighth and Ninth-Level Practitioners joining forces against could not possibly be just a first-level Summoner like Ye Huan! 0

Suddenly, a clattering sound echoed as something fell to the ground. Liu Ruyan and the Professionals looked up in surprise and saw a green 'bottle' rolling across the floor towards them. 0

"What is this?" "Could it be another one of those things that emit smoke?" 0

Whispers filled the air as everyone curiously gazed at the object that had just rolled into the room. However, in the next moment, they were astonished to see that after rolling twice on the ground, this green 'bottle' spilled out a considerable amount of white powder that suddenly ignited! 0

"Damn it, is that fire?!" "Where's the Water Mage?!" "Quick, put out the fire!" 0

Seeing that these bottles contained fire caused panic among all the Professionals present. Two of them even unleashed sword energy onto the ground, sending splinters flying and accelerating the flames' spread. 0

Slowly opening his eyes, the White-Haired Elder glanced outside at the flames fueled by the abundant wood burning within the Cining Palace. He remained remarkably calm and said nonchalantly, "Everyone stay calm. As long as you remain within the range of my magical barrier, I guarantee your safety!" 0

The magical barrier, an eighth-level defensive spell, consumed a tremendous amount of magical energy due to its area-of-effect nature. Aside from a Ninth-Level Mage, ordinary mages simply could not sustain such a drain. 0

Upon hearing the elder's words, nearly everyone cast fearful glances at him, remaining silent. Offending a Ninth-Level Mage was far more terrifying than offending a Ninth-Level Warrior; after all, no one wanted to be blown up in their sleep for no reason. 0

As the fire raged on, the pillars of the Cining Palace were almost completely engulfed in flames, quickly spreading to the beams above. 0

Creak… 0

Finally, one of the beams burned through and collapsed heavily onto the head of a nearby person. To everyone's surprise, the light emitted from the elder's staff formed a barrier that seemed as solid as steel, deflecting the beam aside. 0

With one beam down, another soon followed. In just a short while, nearly all the beams above the Cining Palace had burned away. 0

Without the support of the beams, the roof began to collapse extensively. Pieces of glazed tiles fell continuously, causing everyone to look up in shock, except for the indifferent White-Haired Elder. 0

With a loud crash, after being consumed by flames, the Cining Palace completely collapsed. However, within that green barrier created by the elder, they saw that it held back the falling debris, allowing everyone to breathe a sigh of relief. But at that moment, visibly striking against the deep green barrier was a ten-centimeter bullet that crashed down like a ravenous man tearing through a woman's garments with ease. It pierced through the barrier and struck heavily against the temple of an unsuspecting Eighth-Level Warrior who had been looking up. 0

How powerful was Barrett's bullet? Ye Huan found it hard to describe. But now, witnessing that ten-centimeter bullet effortlessly exit one side of an Eighth-Level Warrior's temple and emerge from the other side while spraying blood towards another person made Ye Huan realize that whether it was an Eighth-Level Warrior or a Ninth-Level Warrior, anyone hit in the head by Barrett's terrifying bullet would face certain death! 0

Another bullet was loaded and fired. At this point, it no longer mattered to Ye Huan whether those hiding in the Cining Palace would come out or not. 0

Through his scope, upon seeing Liu Ruyan and Ye Luo after the collapse of the Cining Palace, Ye Huan made his decision: eliminate these experts and rescue Liu Ruyan! 0

At the same time, noticing that an Eighth-Level Warrior had suddenly lost consciousness without warning, those professionals within the light green barrier quickly turned their attention towards the distant Clock Tower. 0

"Send a few people to tear down that Clock Tower!" 0

Under the protection of the green light barrier, people were still being killed. The White-Haired Elder, a Ninth-Level Mage, looked grim as he spoke, increasing his magical output. The deep green barrier gradually darkened until it transformed into an emerald-like dark green, shimmering with light. 0

Hearing the White-Haired Elder, the four Eighth-Level Warriors exchanged glances and quickly rushed out, heading straight for the location of the Clock Tower. However, just as one of them took a step forward, a ten-centimeter-long bullet suddenly appeared in front of him, shattering his skull... 0

"This is impossible! My magic barrier can't be broken even by a powerful strike from a Ninth-Level Warrior; they..." 0

The calm demeanor of the Ninth-Level Mage vanished as he stood up abruptly, disbelief etched on his face. He failed to consider that the attacks used by the Ninth-Level Warriors were undoubtedly sword energy converted from Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy, which had no physical form. Yet, Ye Huan had once possessed a tangible innate skill when he ascended to Fourth-Level Summoner. Against physical attacks, many defensive measures converted from Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy were utterly ineffective! 0

In just over ten seconds, all four Eighth-Level Warriors were dead—without exception, their heads blown apart. The shock this would cause among other Professionals was unimaginable. 0

"Go! All of you go! You warriors are fast; send twenty people to the Clock Tower and tear it down! I refuse to believe he can kill us all!" 0

Having witnessed the deaths of those four Eighth-Level Warriors within the magic barrier, this was undoubtedly a heavy slap in the face for the Ninth-Level Mage. Enraged, he momentarily forgot that he could destroy the Clock Tower from a distance and instead shouted such words. 0

"Damn it, why should we go?" "Screw that; if you want to go, go yourself. We’re not going..." "We might as well die together; I’m definitely not going." 0

Why is ten yuan called great unity? The answer is simple: only when there’s money can there be unity, but one must also have a life to spend it! Watching those four Eighth-Level Warriors being shot dead from afar caused these warriors—who had either been bought off with money or lured by beauty from the former Southern Xiongnu Empire—to become disunited. Their anger turned towards the Ninth-Level Mage, completely forgetting who had used the magic barrier to shield them from the flames. 0

Listening to the discussions around him, the White-Haired Elder, furious and seething with rage, shouted, "Fine! If you warriors won’t go, I will!" 0

As he spoke, he began to retract the magical power sustaining the barrier. 0

As he withdrew his magic barrier amidst the raging flames, a wave of scorching heat rushed towards everyone. They finally realized what role the elder had played earlier and felt a pang of regret. But before they could voice their thoughts, another bullet came hurtling from afar, piercing through the forehead of the White-Haired Elder, exploding his head. 0

A Ninth-Level Mage, killed in an instant! 0

As the one who had just eliminated a Ninth-Level Mage, Ye Huan summoned an M60 general-purpose machine gun atop the Clock Tower. However, it wasn't for himself; he handed it over to Zhang Ren. Below them, countless soldiers who had come to extinguish fires at the Cining Palace noticed that someone was inside the Clock Tower and completely surrounded it... 0

“Zhang Ren, how much longer can you hold on?” 0

Holding Barrett and aiming at the head of a high-ranking Professional, Ye Huan listened to the frantic gunfire of two M60s and truly wondered how Zhang Ren could manage to operate two M60 machine guns simultaneously. 0

Without even turning his head, ignoring the sweat dripping down his forehead, Zhang Ren replied, “I think if I had that Grenade you used last time, I could hold on longer…” 0

It was no surprise; Zhang Ren had already poked his head out of the Clock Tower more than once. Below them, there were already at least two thousand soldiers gathered, with more rushing toward their position. To prevent these numerous soldiers from approaching the tower, Zhang Ren had no choice but to fire early from a distance, expending ammunition to keep them suppressed fifty meters away from the Clock Tower. Otherwise, if so many soldiers charged at once, the tower would likely be overwhelmed and toppled in an instant by sheer numbers! 0

Upon hearing Zhang Ren’s words, Ye Huan immediately pulled the trigger in his hand. After killing a Professional standing amidst the flames, he summoned countless M67 fragmentation Grenades from the 2012 Arms compendium to buy Zhang Ren more time. 0

No one wanted to die; those with higher power and status cherished their lives even more. This was evident from the many restless Professionals on the ruins of Cining Palace. After six had been killed by Ye Huan through long-range suppression since the collapse of Cining Palace, finally, one Eighth-Level Warrior couldn’t hold back any longer and charged toward Ye Huan. This action prompted more Professionals to move, especially several summoners who summoned their Summoner from their Summoning Book, forming a large team rushing toward Ye Huan. 0

In contrast, the Ninth-Level Practitioners remained mostly stationary, guarding Liu Ruyan and Ye Le. After all, with news spreading within the Southern Xiongnu Empire that Ye Huan was coming to rescue his family, their current battle was no longer about killing Ye Huan, but about protecting the honor of the royal family of the Southern Xiongnu Empire! 0

0

Standing atop the high Clock Tower, watching countless warriors and Summoners lined up below, Ye Huan smiled brighter than anyone else, laughing as he cursed, “A bunch of pig-headed fools…” 0

With that, Ye Huan shouldered a prepared RPG Rocket Launcher. 0
