Ye Huan couldn't help but realize that after witnessing the battle of the Ninth-Level Expert, he knew that this level of combat was far beyond his current capabilities. Even if he went, it would only be a death wish; he wouldn't be able to help Ye Tian at all and would instead become a burden.
However, back in the twenty-first century, his high school teacher, who was even more pedantic than the average scholar, once said in class: "Parents are the foundation of a person. You may not know what you are doing, but you must always live up to the parents who have worked hard to raise you."
It was precisely this statement from his high school teacher that motivated Ye Huan to study, leading him to give up the games he once loved and the island nation battle films he adored, dedicating himself to the rigorous pursuit of college entrance exams.
Now, his father in this life was fighting for his life against others. While it was true that he couldn't help, if he were to follow Ye Luo's suggestion and flee north, ignoring his parents, how could he ever face the world again?
With this thought in mind, as Weiyang had already turned the Military Hummer southward, Ye Huan urged Weiyang to drive faster. He wanted to reach the Royal Capital as soon as possible to see what was happening with the Royal Capital Ye Family.
His intentions were noble, but less than half an hour into their journey southward on the official road from Northern Liang City to the capital, they encountered a blockade. Numerous masked figures in black clothing wielding Ring-Handled Sabers had completely obstructed the road. From a distance, it seemed there were so many black-clad individuals that their numbers stretched beyond sight—at least a thousand.
Unsure whether to proceed or how to react, Weiyang glanced at Ye Huan for advice.
Fixing his gaze on the black-clad figures ahead, Ye Huan frowned and quickly made a decision: "Drive somewhere else; we need to go around them. We can't afford to linger here."
"Got it!" With Ye Huan's response, Weiyang's plump face broke into a knowing smile as he pressed down on the throttle. This sudden action startled both Ye Huan and Zhang Ren; they had no idea what he was planning.
As they approached the black-clad figures, now only about twenty meters away, many of them pointed their long knives toward Ye Huan and his companions upon spotting the military Hummer. In the next moment, the military Hummer swerved in front of them in an oval shape, kicking up a cloud of dust as it sped eastward, leaving those black-clad individuals covered in dirt. Weiyang couldn't help but laugh heartily at their misfortune.
Ye Huan slapped Weiyang on the back of his head in frustration and finally realized what Weiyang was doing. He feigned anger and shouted, "Stop fooling around! Just drive!"
Pouting his thick lips in displeasure, Weiyang remained defiant until Zhang Ren gave him another slap. Only then did Weiyang settle down and drive the Military Hummer properly. They soon found themselves on another official road heading eastward, only to discover yet another blockade of no less than a thousand people.
With no other choice, Weiyang drove westward again. Surprisingly, they found that all three sides surrounding Northern Liang City were blocked by black-clad figures. This left Ye Huan and Weiyang puzzled: "Why are these black-clad people doing this? Are they sent by that old man in black robes from Northern Liang City?"
The more they thought about it, the more plausible it seemed. Ye Huan resolved to capture one of them for questioning; after all, they had been too out of touch with external news lately. It wouldn't hurt to learn more.
After signaling Weiyang to find a quiet place to park, Ye Huan's gaze fell decisively on Zhang Ren.
Under the gaze of Ye Huan, Zhang Ren couldn't help but feel a bit uncomfortable. He turned to Ye Huan and asked, "What are you looking at me for?"
"Well, Zhang Ren, we've gotten along pretty well, haven't we? Could you help me with something?"
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Ye Huan almost hesitated to say this. After all, during their previous interactions, Zhang Ren had never acted on Ye Huan's requests; everything had been voluntary on Zhang Ren's part. But this time was different—Ye Huan was in need of his help.
Zhang Ren smiled and seemed indifferent. "Just tell me what you need! I can't go back to Beiyuan City anyway; sticking with you seems like a good idea."
As he said this, Zhang Ren appeared sincere. After all, he was the one responsible for the security of the Trial Assembly. When things went wrong at the Trial Assembly, Zhang Ren couldn't escape blame. Rather than return to Beiyuan City to face punishment, it made more sense to follow Ye Huan. Zhang Ren had been thinking this way for some time but had lacked the opportunity to voice it. Now that he had the chance, he spoke without hesitation.
Ye Huan wasn't foolish; upon hearing Zhang Ren's words and pondering them for a moment, he understood what Zhang Ren meant. He nodded seriously and proceeded to explain that he needed to capture a man in black.
Understanding the implication behind Ye Huan's words, Zhang Ren wasted no time. He opened the door of the Military Hummer and said, "Wait for me," before demonstrating his speed as a Fifth-Level Warrior and disappearing from Ye Huan and Weiyang's sight.
Once Zhang Ren left, Weiyang, feeling idle, leaned comfortably against the seat in the driver's position and opened up the conversation. To Ye Huan's surprise, what he said was closely related to Zhang Ren: "Hey Ye Huan, did you catch that Zhang Ren kid seems to have plans to align himself with you?"
"What do you think?" Ye Huan replied with a chuckle, still curious about why Weiyang would say that.
Weiyang rolled his eyes at Ye Huan in the rearview mirror but didn't speak further. Fortunately, this silence didn't last long; within just three minutes, Zhang Ren returned with a man in black in tow. He tossed the man onto the ground and grinned as he said, "Mission accomplished! I knocked him out; I'll wake him up now. You can ask whatever you want!"
As he spoke, Zhang Ren placed his hand beside the face of the man in black and delivered a heavy slap that jolted the man awake. Ye Huan and Weiyang watched in shock as the man opened his eyes in pain. Initially curious about how Zhang Ren would wake him up without water, they were taken aback by his violent method.
Squatting down in front of the man in black with an exasperated expression, Ye Huan yanked off the black scarf covering his face. To his surprise, he found that this man was much younger than himself—probably only around seventeen or eighteen years old, or perhaps even younger.
Trying not to focus on the man's age, Ye Huan hesitated for a moment before asking his burning question: "Who are you? Why have you blocked all the official roads around Northern Liang City?"
The man in black glared at Ye Huan but remained silent—clearly a tough nut to crack.
With a swift motion mimicking Zhang Ren's earlier actions, Ye Huan slapped him hard across the face. He then picked up the Ring-Handled Saber that Zhang Ren had brought along and pressed it against the pale neck of the man in black. A thin line of blood appeared instantly, clearly visible to the eye.
The man in black, sensing the pain in his neck, hurriedly exclaimed, "Don't kill me! I'll tell you everything!"
"Really? Then hurry up and speak!" Ye Huan said, looking at the terrified man. He had to maintain a threatening expression while slightly adjusting the position of his Ring-Handled Saber.
"Please don't kill me! I'm a member of the Northern Liang City Dragon Hall. We only blocked the official roads around here after receiving orders from above!" The man shouted in fear as he felt the coolness of the Ring-Handled Saber shift against his neck, spilling out all the information Ye Huan wanted to know.
Northern Liang City Dragon Hall?
Ye Huan vaguely felt that this Dragon Hall might be connected to the mysterious old man in the black robe. He couldn't help but ask, "What is the relationship between Northern Liang City Dragon Hall and Royal Dragon Hall?"
"I heard that the founders of our Northern Liang City Dragon Hall were members of Royal Dragon Hall. Beyond that, I don't know much. Also, almost every town in Huaxia Nation has members of Dragon Hall..." Realizing that Ye Huan had no intention of killing him, the man revealed everything he knew, prompting Ye Huan to glance at Weiyang and Zhang Ren beside him. However, they both shook their heads repeatedly, clearly unaware that such an organization as Dragon Hall existed elsewhere.
After carefully organizing what the man had said and recalling his encounter with the old man in black robe in Northern Liang City, Ye Huan suddenly had a terrifying thought: these so-called Dragon Halls might all be under the command of that old man. To put it in trendy terms, that old man was essentially the boss of all criminal organizations in Huaxia Nation!
Slowly moving the Ring-Handled Saber aside, Ye Huan stood up but then remembered something. He once again placed the Ring-Handled Saber against the man's neck, causing him to scream, "Don't kill me! We made a deal! I tell you what I know, and you don't kill me!"
"When did I say I wouldn't kill you? Anyway, I never intended to kill you; it's just that you seem to have one more question left unanswered: why are you blocking the official roads here?" Ye Huan said helplessly, having gained a deep understanding of how terrified this man was.
"I heard from my superiors that members of the Royal Capital Ye Family fled near Northern Liang City for some reason. The reason we blocked the roads was to see if we could catch any stragglers to bring back to Dragon Hall." The man tentatively placed his hand on the Ring-Handled Saber. Seeing that Ye Huan did not react strongly, he continued speaking while inching away from it. After finishing his sentence, he turned and ran. However, Zhang Ren, who had remained silent until now, suddenly snatched the Ring-Handled Saber from Ye Huan's hand and threw it. It pierced through the man's heart. He then coldly remarked, "Letting a tiger return to the mountain will lead to endless troubles. If you won't kill him, I'll help you do it!"
Ye Huan shrugged indifferently; his mind was filled with what the man in black had just said. After a moment of contemplation, he realized something crucial and muttered, "This is bad!"
