Unbeknownst to them, Gong Weiqi was leading a group in pursuit. Ye Huan's mind was solely focused on reaching the center of Northern Liang City as quickly as possible, prompting Weiyang to accelerate even more.
After receiving Ye Huan's orders, Weiyang and Zhang Ren not only did not object but instead cheered excitedly. With a press of the throttle, the military Hummer surged to its maximum speed of 200 miles per hour, transforming into a green blur that knocked over numerous stalls in Northern Liang City. The startled civilians rushed into their homes, fearing that a powerful beast was attacking the city.
Thus, they sped along without obstruction. Three minutes later, Ye Huan and the others were gradually closing in on the central area of Northern Liang City. In front of the city lord's mansion, a large number of professionals had gathered after receiving the message relayed by Gong Weiqi. There were only a few summoners present, but over a hundred third-rank mages had arrived, not to mention a significant number of martial artists.
From their appearance, it seemed they had just arrived and were still somewhat cramped in their positions, their expressions filled with anxiety as they observed the end of the streets in Northern Liang City. Soon enough, they spotted the military Hummer speeding toward them. One mage shouted, "Quick! Look over there! It's that thing!"
However, before he could finish his sentence, Ye Huan had already spotted a large group blocking their path from less than two hundred meters away. Holding his Barrett rifle, he poked his head out and aimed through the scope. After taking aim, he pulled the trigger, clearly intending to give these individuals a warning and force them to clear a path.
In fact, Ye Huan succeeded. As the thunderous sound of the Barrett echoed like thunderclaps in the open air, the mage who had just spoken found himself with a gaping hole in his abdomen from an 11-centimeter bullet. Even a martial artist standing behind him was not spared; both of them collapsed with their intestines and bits of flesh scattered on the ground. The surrounding crowd quickly stepped aside in fear. A few reckless martial artists charged toward Ye Huan and his companions but barely took three steps before Zhang Ren opened fire with an M60 machine gun, turning them into nothing more than mangled remains.
Noticing the path ahead clearing up, Ye Huan reached for two flashbangs and tossed them forward after pulling the pins. He then kicked the back of Weiyang's seat and shouted loudly, "Hurry up! Charge into the city lord's mansion!"
Upon hearing Ye Huan's command, Weiyang pressed down harder on the accelerator. However, it seemed that they had already reached maximum speed; despite his efforts, he could not push down any further on the throttle. The military Hummer whizzed past those professionals and collided with an unfortunate martial artist who failed to move out of the way before crashing directly into the gates of the city lord's mansion.
Once inside the mansion grounds, Ye Huan threw down two smoke grenades to obscure visibility at the entrance. He and Weiyang stepped out of the vehicle, each gripping an M4A1 assault rifle as they cautiously made their way toward the central courtyard of the mansion, wary of potential ambushes.
Indeed, their decision proved correct; they had not gone far when a group of guards suddenly emerged from both sides of the corridor. Armed with long swords and wearing light armor, they charged at Ye Huan and his companions with shouts of battle cries. Their reckless advance startled Ye Huan and his team momentarily; however, it was unfortunate for them that with just a burst of bullets from Ye Huan’s rifle, these guards were swiftly eliminated—revealing that they were merely ordinary soldiers.
Afterward, they encountered no further obstacles and quickly made their way to a central courtyard within the city lord's mansion—presumably where the lord resided. With a firm stomp of his boot, Ye Huan kicked open the crimson doors leading into the courtyard. To their surprise, there was no imposing city lord or throng of soldiers within; instead, the entire courtyard was eerily quiet.
They exchanged glances, and a vague sense of unease settled among the three of them. They meticulously searched the Lord's Manor, but to no avail; aside from the earlier group of guards, there was not a single other person in sight, not even a maid.
"I say, Ye Huan, have we fallen into a trap?" Wei Yang remarked as they stood in the empty courtyard, prompting Zhang Ren to nod repeatedly in agreement.
A trap?
Recalling the scene when the soldiers at the City Gate had launched their attack first, Ye Huan couldn't dismiss the possibility. After all, they had been wandering around the Lord's Manor for quite some time, and the smoke from the smoke bombs at the entrance had dissipated. How could no one have followed them inside?
With that thought in mind, Ye Huan quickly led Wei Yang and Zhang Ren back to the entrance of the Lord's Manor. From a distance, he spotted Gong Weiqi coldly watching them from afar, surrounded by countless soldiers. The area was densely packed with soldiers' heads—at least several thousand—and in front of Gong Weiqi stood numerous mages, each gripping a staff and gathering a large amount of fire elements, seemingly preparing to cast some sort of collective magic.
"How could this happen? How did Gong Weiqi get behind us?"
Watching as soldiers spread out to encircle the Lord's Manor tightly, Ye Huan couldn't comprehend how Gong Weiqi had managed to bring so many people to his rear.
In truth, as soon as Gong Weiqi saw Ye Huan drive into the city from atop the city wall, he had anticipated Ye Huan's intentions. He had deliberately allowed Ye Huan to pass through and sent someone along a shortcut to escort the Lord to the Northern Liang Barracks. After that, he ensured that Ye Huan and his companions could reach the Lord's Manor without obstruction, all to trap Ye Huan with no way out! Otherwise, that military Hummer would have been intercepted by the commonly used 'Blade Vehicle' before it could travel far.
To make it look convincing, Gong Weiqi had sacrificed quite a few soldiers at the City Gate. However, now he felt that everything he had done was worth it. After all, Ye Huan was the biological son of his enemy. Just thinking about killing Ye Huan brought a twisted smile to Gong Weiqi's handsome face—cruel and ferocious—as he shouted towards the Lord's Manor, "Ye Huan, you really shouldn't have come to my Northern Liang City to stir up trouble. Prepare to die!"
As he spoke, Gong Weiqi raised his right hand as if signaling for the mages to attack at any moment.
But just then, an unexpected turn of events occurred. Inside the gates of the Lord's Manor, although Ye Huan didn't know when Gong Weiqi had discovered his arrival and set this trap for him, he understood very well that "my fate is determined by me." He summoned three Gatling guns without hesitation.
Gripping one of them tightly, Ye Huan began firing towards the front. The six barrels spun as bullets were unleashed one after another, directly striking into the chests of those mages and erupting in splashes of blood like waves of red tide.
Behind Ye Huan, Weiyang and Zhang Ren mimicked his actions, each grabbing a Gatling Gun. They pressed the power switch and gripped the trigger, unleashing a thunderous roar as three barrels of the Gatling Gun fired in rapid succession. Bullets shot out at an astonishing speed, repeatedly striking the enemies before them, even tearing apart a Fifth-Level Warrior standing near Gong Weiqi into bloody chunks. The numerous bullet holes in the flesh left Gong Weiqi horrified, causing him to retreat repeatedly. After all, if those bullets hit him, he certainly wouldn't have time to use Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy to heal himself!
Having eliminated a large number of mages with the Gatling Gun, Ye Huan finally resolved the immediate trouble. However, another worry arose in his mind: the love-hate relationship with such a weapon. The ammunition consumed an excessive amount of Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy—so much that even Ye Huan's Summoning Book could barely keep up. This was why Ye Huan had summoned three Gatling Guns in hopes of buying time to replenish his Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy.
Stepping back from the Gatling Gun, he signaled Zhang Ren and Weiyang to continue their assault. Ye Huan took out a Beast Inner Pill from his pocket and swallowed it, sending Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy to the Summoning Book. This barely compensated for the consumption rate, but it was not a long-term solution. If Gong Weiqi allowed those warriors to climb over the wall, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Of course, what Ye Huan could think of, Gong Weiqi could also consider. However, with the intent of minimizing casualties, Gong Weiqi devised a better plan. He commanded the mages to slowly retreat while instructing his subordinates to bring in a Trebuchet, intending to launch Fire Stones to burn Ye Huan and his companions alive inside.
About forty seconds later, Ye Huan finally managed to restore some of his Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy. He hurriedly instructed Weiyang and Zhang Ren to cease their attacks to reduce further consumption. Looking outside the city lord's mansion, he immediately noticed the presence of the Trebuchet but found it puzzling; given how sturdy the mansion was, what could a Trebuchet possibly achieve?
Frustrated, he summoned a Barrett rifle. Using its scope, he spotted a Fire Stone prepared for launch on the Trebuchet and paused momentarily as strategies raced through his mind.
"Ye Huan, what are you spacing out for at a time like this?"
Noticing Ye Huan's distraction, Weiyang exclaimed in frustration. The next moment, they both saw a massive stone soaked in oil and set ablaze hurtling toward them from above. Unlike Ye Huan's deep contemplation, Weiyang was clearly at a loss for what to do and stood frozen in place.
Fortunately, Zhang Ren maintained his composure. He jumped up and used the M4A1 assault rifle that Ye Huan had summoned earlier as a makeshift sword to deflect the giant stone away. After landing safely, Zhang Ren tossed aside the M4A1 and grabbed Ye Huan and Weiyang as they sprinted toward the center of the city lord's mansion. They dodged several falling Fire Stones along the way before bursting into the courtyard of the mansion. Leaning against a sturdy wall, Zhang Ren finally let out a sigh of relief and shouted at Ye Huan:
"Ye Huan! Why don't you check your Summoning Book for anything else we can use?!"
