It is a thing, not a thing; everyone understands what it means when used to describe a person. But that no longer matters, for when Lin Xiao, the general of Liangzhou City and its lord, saw his brother Lin Yu being trampled, he had already sentenced everyone in the inn to death.
"General Lin?"
Upon the appearance of the bald man, Ivy, who had been quietly eating, finally lifted her head. Her eyes sparkled with an unusual light, filled with admiration.
Noticing Ivy's change in expression, Ye Huan seized the opportunity to ask her about the man in golden armor. "Ivy, who is General Lin?"
"You don't know General Lin?" Ivy looked at Ye Huan and the others with surprise. Given that they had already bought her trust, she whispered, "General Lin is our city lord. I've heard he is incredibly powerful, with strength at least that of a Seventh Level Warrior. Oh, and my father once said that if it weren't for him, Liangzhou City would still belong to Huaxia Nation!"
In her innocent way, Ivy shared everything she knew. However, her words left Ye Huan and the others in shock. If it weren't for him, Liangzhou City would still belong to Huaxia Nation? Could it be...
Looking at Lin Xiao as if he were a monster, Ye Huan felt he had made a grave mistake by not stopping Weiyang earlier.
Fortunately, Lin Xiao was very concerned about his brother. He quickly rushed to Lin Yu's side and made a move that shocked everyone—he extended one hand to firmly block the descending arm made of water elements!
This scene nearly terrified Weiyang out of his wits. That was neither a knife nor a sword; it was a living magical element! To think he could easily block the water element with just his hand—how powerful must he be?
In contrast, after Lin Xiao blocked the water element's arm, Lin Yu reached out with his other hand to help himself up. He showed no signs of noble demeanor; his luxurious clothing was stained with blood, clearly indicating he had been violently squeezed by the magical element from within. Even his previously ugly face was covered in blood—he looked like a true Blood Man.
Seeing how brutally Lin Yu had been trampled upon ignited Lin Xiao's fury. Enraged beyond measure, he struck hard against the water element's hand he was holding back, crushing one corner of it instantly.
With its structure disrupted, the arm formed by the water element lost its previous power and quickly dissipated into thin air. Afterward, Lin Xiao turned his gaze toward Ye Huan and the others. Beneath his shiny bald head, two piercing eyes glinted like daggers, locking onto Ye Huan and the others with deadly intensity.
"What should we do? What can we do?!"
As they locked eyes with Lin Xiao, Ye Huan and the others felt an immense pressure. After all, he was a Seventh Level Warrior, and taking their lives would be as easy as crushing an ant!
"Good, very good. A Third-Rank Warrior, a Fifth-Level Warrior, and a Fourth-Level Mage, along with a First-Level Summoner. You four dare to lay hands on my younger brother? This is just too good!" Perhaps out of rage, Lin Xiao gritted his teeth as he spoke to Ye Huan and the others.
It is said that those who are reckless fear nothing, and those who fear nothing are the most dangerous. In this tense moment, Weiyang suddenly stepped forward and shouted at Lin Xiao, "So you’re this guy’s brother? No wonder your little brother has the audacity to harass decent women! Turns out his brother is just as unreasonable!"
Weiyang's words were filled with righteous indignation, and his sudden outburst startled Ye Huan and the others, leaving them confused about what had gotten into him.
Looking at Weiyang with disdain, Lin Xiao seemed to have anticipated this response. A sneer appeared on his lips as he retorted, "I’m unreasonable? Then tell me, did I hit you or insult you? If you can point out even one fault of mine, I’ll pretend this never happened and let you all go!"
"Brother..." Upon hearing Lin Xiao's words, Lin Yu immediately became displeased, his blood-stained face filled with grievance.
Lin Xiao waved his hand to stop Lin Yu from continuing and provocatively turned his gaze back to Weiyang.
Thinking it over, it seemed that since Lin Xiao had appeared, he really hadn’t done anything at all—not even uttered a single curse. This left Weiyang dumbfounded, unsure of what to say next.
"Got nothing to say now, do you? Don’t worry; I won’t resort to vigilante justice against you. I’ll handle this according to the laws of Liangzhou City." Staring at Weiyang's plump face, Lin Xiao's smirk grew more pronounced as he shouted, "Someone! Arrest this bunch!"
"It's over; we're all doomed because of that fat fool Weiyang."
As several soldiers brought by Lin Xiao rushed in through the door, Ye Huan couldn't help but curse Weiyang in his heart. Yet up until now, Ye Huan didn’t think Weiyang had done anything wrong; given the circumstances earlier, it was already commendable that Weiyang had managed to hold back.
While cursing Weiyang internally, Ye Huan's mind raced quickly. Without hesitation, he summoned the 2012 Arms Compendium. Standing behind the table and blocked by Weiyang's bulky figure, Lin Xiao completely failed to notice this unfolding scene.
With a flick of his wrist, a smoke grenade appeared in Ye Huan's hand from beneath the table. He swiftly pulled the pin from the front of the grenade, and it fell to the ground with a crisp sound, immediately capturing everyone's attention.
It is well known that smoke grenades come in various types, with military smoke grenades being the most common. They produce smoke for a very short time but maintain it for a long duration.
Unfortunately, the smoke grenade summoned from the 2012 Arms Compendium belonged to the military category, and from the moment it hit the ground, it began to emit thick smoke, quickly enveloping everyone in its haze.
Out of fear of the unknown, the soldiers from Liangzhou City hesitated, stopping in their tracks and looking towards their leader, Lin Xiao.
Furrowing his brow, Lin Xiao tried to sense the situation. When he realized that there were no significant fluctuations of Heaven and Earth Spiritual Energy within the smoke, he was taken aback, his mind racing with questions about how this smoke had appeared.
Just as he was troubled about how to issue orders, two more grenades that looked identical to the first were thrown out in quick succession from within the thick smoke—one aimed at the soldiers at the entrance and the other rolling through the air towards Lin Xiao.
Without a second thought, fearing that this object might harm him, Lin Xiao leaped high into the air and kicked the grenade aside. After it landed in another direction, he finally descended and glared in that direction.
To his dismay, a blinding flash of light erupted instantly, causing Lin Xiao's vision to fail him; pain shot through his eyes as tears threatened to spill. At the inn's entrance, those soldiers experienced similar reactions. Initially curious, they leaned in closer only to collectively scream in agony as they covered their eyes, cursing Lin Yu for arranging to meet General Lin at this Jia Inn and bringing about such trouble.
Perhaps due to their numbers, the soldiers at the entrance became restless after losing their sight and inadvertently created a path. At that moment, Ye Huan's voice rang out from within the smoke: "Quickly, move!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Ye Huan was the first to dash out of the smoke-covered area. He held onto the little princess with one hand while she grasped Ivy's hand, who in turn held Weiyang's hand, and so on.
On Ye Huan's face rested a pair of Black Sunglasses that protected his eyes—clearly what was described as Anti-Glare Glasses in the 2012 Arms Compendium. Thanks to these glasses, Ye Huan managed to keep his eyes unharmed throughout.
Once they exited the range of the smoke grenade and after Ye Huan reminded everyone to close their eyes, they slowly opened them again and rushed outside. Ye Huan followed closely behind them. After finally escaping from the inn, he didn’t rush away but instead waved his hand through the air. Two Tear Gas canisters appeared in his grip; skillfully pulling their pins, he tossed one into the inn while dropping another at his feet.
Having completed this task, Ye Huan turned and ran off into the distance without looking back...
Ten minutes later, in the inn where Ye Huan had previously stayed, Lin Xiao covered his already tear-stained eyes, his face twisted in a fierce grimace, as if he could only quell the hatred in his heart by devouring human flesh.
Beside him, a subordinate who had just rushed over to offer support was abruptly swatted away by Lin Xiao's hand. Lin Xiao then shouted loudly, "What do you mean by supporting me? Hurry and relay my orders! Seal off all the city gates of Liangzhou City! I suspect these guys have ulterior motives!"
"Yes, I'll go right away." Seeing the lord's fury, Lin Xiao's subordinate hurriedly nodded and left the inn at a brisk pace to carry out the orders.
If Ye Huan were present, he would certainly inform Lin Xiao that there was indeed something suspicious about their arrival, especially since he was still using Arms from the Twenty-First Century. Unfortunately, Ye Huan was not there; instead, he had hidden himself in a tavern, panting heavily. Weiyang and the others were equally exhausted.
Cautiously peeking outside the tavern, Ye Huan felt like a thief. When he realized there were no pursuers behind him, he turned to the others and said, "Alright, it should be safe now. Let's think quickly about where we should go next."
Where to go? The group exchanged glances, choosing silence regarding this question. After all, if they were the lord of Liangzhou City, their first instinct would be to seal off the city gates and conduct house-to-house searches. Leaving Liangzhou was simply impossible at this moment. But where else could they go besides leaving Liangzhou City? Did they really want to confront their enemies head-on like before?
Moreover, while Ye Huan's Arms might still be effective once or twice, who could guarantee that their opponents wouldn't eventually recognize them after repeated use?
With such thoughts in mind, everyone fell into silence.
"Sister, I actually have a place we can go," Ivy suddenly spoke up as everyone was at a loss for ideas, tugging at the little princess's sleeve.
"You have a place? Where?" Looking at the adorable Ivy, Ye Huan asked eagerly. Just then, a location flashed through his mind.
As expected, when Ivy mentioned "the slums," both the little princess and Weiyang's expressions immediately turned sour, clearly filled with disdain for such a place.
In times of crisis, one must act decisively. After a brief hesitation, Ye Huan clenched his fists tightly and stood up first, addressing everyone: "Let's go to the slums!"
From the bottom of his heart, Ye Huan felt a deep aversion to the slums, especially after Zhang Ren described the conditions there. The thought of entering the slums became even more unappealing. However, as they pushed through countless soldiers searching for them in the city, Ye Huan began to see the slums in a different light; it seemed like a beautiful refuge where he would finally be free from being captured and sentenced by the lord of Beiyuan City.
Soon, they arrived near the slums and entered directly. The little princess and Weiyang were particularly sensitive to the foul odors, gagging uncontrollably. Yet, given their current predicament, they had no choice but to cast aside their noble identities.
"Ivy, can you take us to your home?" Ye Huan asked with a sigh, glancing around at the poverty-stricken people lying on the ground waiting to die. Among them, Ivy was the only one familiar with this place.
Ivy nodded without pretense and turned around, softly saying, "Then follow me to my home."
Home? Ivy had a home? What could her so-called home possibly look like?
Upon hearing Ivy's words, Ye Huan and the others were momentarily taken aback, a flurry of questions rising in their minds. However, the answer soon revealed itself. After a short walk, a dilapidated straw hut appeared before them.
Like other huts, this one lacked proper walls. In the center of the hut sat a muscular middle-aged man with his upper body bare, eyes closed in meditation. He had prominent muscles across his chest, but as they looked down slightly, they noticed that he was missing both legs!
"Father, I'm back!" Upon seeing the strong middle-aged man, Ivy couldn't help but burst into tears and rushed toward him.
The man opened his eyes in surprise. When he saw Ivy clinging to him, his expression shifted to one of astonishment. Only then did he notice Ye Huan and the others behind her. His gaze quickly filled with disdain as he addressed them, "Who are you people? Why have you come here?"
