Being struck by merciless fists was not the unbearable pain; what was truly intolerable was the group assault infused with spiritual energy, each blow threatening to shatter me.
Yet I refused to give in. Even if Su Yi was not perfect, even if so many events had placed us in opposition, it was still because of her that I had any hope of existence. It was because of her that I met Jun Chong and forged this bond.
Moreover, she had treated me well. I wanted to repay her with all my effort, even if it was just a little.
At that moment, as I lay beaten on the ground, I thought of many things. I even felt that if I were to be beaten to death right then, perhaps it would be for the best. After all, if I died, there would be no more troubles, no more debts from my past life to carry into reincarnation.
But heaven would not allow me to die, and I had no power to change my fate.
With the Blood Flame Sword in hand, Su Yi instantly knocked down those who were attacking me.
Once the Blood Flame Sword appeared, blood was bound to flow. Those people, seeing the might of the Blood Flame, turned pale with fear, their eyes fixed on Su Yi as if she were a monster.
"Ah—Second Senior Sister is dead! Su Yi killed Second Senior Sister! Someone call for help, quickly inform Master!"
I was jolted awake. Su Yi killed a fellow disciple?
Looking up, I saw a woman lying motionless on the ground, her body enveloped in the glow of the Blood Flame. In no time at all, she was reduced to a charred corpse. The flames of the Blood Flame did not spare even the bloodstains on the ground; they burned fiercely as if Su Yi's anger was beyond control.
She wore a flowing red robe, her black hair cascading down in strands that danced with the rising wind. Her eyes glowed with a bloody hue, her expression twisted into something terrifying.
This version of Su Yi was unlike anything I had ever seen before. There was no trace of her previous pure spiritual energy; instead, she radiated a bloodthirsty frenzy as if a storm were about to consume everything in its path.
"I love Master; I have seduced Master. So what? Is it wrong for me to like and strive for what I want? At least everything I have now is earned through my own efforts. Now I will become the Queen of the Underworld; those who stand in my way will die!"
With murderous intent spilling forth, she raised her sword again, ready to strike once more. I wanted to get up and stop her, but my body felt weak and powerless.
She coldly smiled at her fellow disciple as if looking at a pile of trash.
"I'll tell you all this: today I killed her and will kill you too. Master will not punish me because without me, his goals cannot be achieved—"
Before Su Yi could finish her words, a sharp attack overshadowed her malice from behind, knocking her down with a single strike.
"Master!"
Su Xun rushed forward to catch the unconscious Su Yi, looking at the chaos before him without furrowing his brows. He coldly commanded, "Give her a proper burial."
"Master! Second Senior Sister was killed by Su Yi. Are you really going to turn a blind eye? Do we mean less to you than Su Yi?"
"What she said and did is clear enough without me having to explain. The Su Family has always valued strength; she ranked second and served as your Second Senior Sister. If she couldn't withstand even one strike from Su Yi, what right does she have to continue? Listen well, this world is ultimately one of the survival of the fittest. If you want to survive, spend your time cultivating instead of squabbling with others."
As these words left his mouth, the others fell silent, lowering their heads.
Su Xun's gaze swept over them before finally landing on me, a strange light flickering in his eyes. Suddenly, he said, "Wing Spirit, come with me."
I moved but couldn't stand up. With a flick of his finger, I felt a gust of wind beneath my feet, lifting me lightly as I followed him away.
Su Xun brought Su Yi into a stone cave where there was a bed. He laid Su Yi down.
I was puzzled; the malevolent aura surrounding Su Yi was clearly unusual, yet he didn't take her to the Pure Heart Pool to dispel her evil thoughts. Instead, he brought her here.
"Stay here and watch over her. As soon as she wakes up, let me know," Su Xun ordered me, raising his hand above my head. I felt a surge of spiritual energy pouring into me from above, flowing through my body and settling in my heart's location—even though there was no heart there, the position was unmistakable. "You should rest as well. When Su Yi wakes up, it will be time for her wedding to the King of Hell."
I was stunned; I had never expected it to happen so soon and worried about whether Jun Chong had truly married Su Yi.
Su Yi remained in a deep sleep for seven days, and I stayed in this place for the same duration. During that time, the malevolent aura around her gradually dissipated, and pure spiritual energy returned.
On the eighth day, almost at the moment Su Yi opened her eyes, Su Xun sent someone to summon her to the hall, saying that Jun Chong had arrived.
"Jun Chong?" Joy sparkled in Su Yi's eyes. "I'll go tidy myself up first."
Su Yi adjusted her clothes and pulled me back to her courtyard. Then she began to groom and dress herself—this was the first time I had seen her put so much effort into her appearance; she only did this when going out alone with Su Xun.
It was quite evident why a woman would choose to dress up.
Perhaps it was Jun Rui's words that reminded her to try to like someone else, which led her to develop feelings for Jun Chong, a man who was powerful, charming, and influential.
He was truly the kind of man one could fall in love with at first sight.
"Wing Spirit, I'm going to meet Jun Chong. He is the King of the Underworld, and the Eerie Aura around him is strong. I'm afraid you won't be able to handle it. You should rest here; you must be tired after keeping watch over me these past few days."
I nodded. The shadow had no such feelings for Jun Chong; Su Yi's words were absolute commands, never to be questioned.
I quietly sat on a stone bench in the courtyard, playing with some grass. Su Yi affectionately patted my head and smiled, "Wing Spirit, once I truly become the Queen of the Underworld, I will ask Jun Chong to give you a soul so you can be reborn."
I continued to nod, gazing foolishly at Su Yi. She smiled back and then left, her lips curling into a shy smile typical of a young girl.
I knew that even if I wanted to go, it would be impossible. But not long after Su Yi had left, I stood up and walked confidently toward the hall. I was surprised to find that the shadow had secretly followed me.
It wasn't until I caught the smiling gaze of that man that I realized he had deliberately forced me to come here.
Jun Chong may seem upright, but sometimes he could be quite wicked in a way that made more people fall for him.
Under the Cherry Blossom Tree in front of the hall, two figures—one red and one black—were entangled in mid-air, like two blooming flowers standing on the rooftops, their garments fluttering. The woman exuded grace while the man radiated dominance; their contrasting colors captivated everyone’s eyes in an instant.
Su Yi, dressed in red with her hair tied back, looked striking and confident. "I refuse to believe I can't defeat you this time."
Jun Chong squinted with a smirk on his lips, his crimson mouth alluring. "What if I still win?"
"Then whatever you want from me afterward, I will agree."
"You don't need to do anything for me; I only want one thing from you—something very important to you."
His words were so ambiguous that only those with keen insight could decipher them. A blush appeared on Su Yi's cheeks as she raised an eyebrow. "If you defeat me, I'll still give you whatever you want without any regrets."
Jun Chong took the initiative, and Su Yi was not one to back down either; they exchanged blows several times.
From what I knew about Jun Chong, when facing Su Yi, he would only hold back. The two moved gracefully, causing petals to scatter around them, adding a romantic beauty reminiscent of a scene under blooming flowers and a bright moon.
The battle that could have ended early dragged on for quite some time, with Su Yi attacking with a smile in every move. I took a moment to glance at Jun Chong, whose deep black eyes were slightly narrowed, his expression neither smiling nor cold.
Then, Jun Chong suddenly flipped his sword, striking directly at Su Yi, severing the ribbon that held her hair. The two of them brushed past each other, swords sheathed as they stood still. Jun Chong raised the ribbon in his hand and turned back with a smile, saying, "You lost."
"Su Yi accepts defeat."
"Remember your promise."
Su Yi had expected Jun Chong to say more, but he suddenly leaped down from the rooftop without pausing, heading straight toward me.
Before I could react, he swept me into his arms. His movements were light as he leaped again, the sound of Wind Sound roaring in my ears, his icy breath filling my nostrils.
"She belongs to me from now on."
With just those five words, he said no more.
In a daze, I caught a glimpse of the shock that flashed across Su Yi's face, followed by an expression of hurt that she couldn't accept.
Compared to her reaction, Su Xun was even more agitated. He almost immediately chased after us but was blocked midway by a scythe.
Shizui, clad in a black robe embroidered with gold, his hair flying wildly, wielded the scythe effortlessly as if it were a small knife in his hand.
"Please stop right there."
He stood in front of Su Xun, and with that brief distraction, Jun Chong took me away from the Su Family, leaving Xiuling Mountain behind.
"Little Shadow, are you happy? Soon you will be able to become human."
Jun Chong's gaze was intense, and the smile on his face radiated an unusual warmth.
Such a demeanor left me even more uncertain whether his intention to make me human was merely to fulfill that promise or if there were other motives at play.
Moreover, judging by Su Xun's reaction, my departure seemed to have made him quite anxious.
Although he thought about it, the shadow in his arms struggled desperately, wanting to escape his embrace, but he held on tighter.
"Staying with the Su Family will only lead to your death. Only by following me can I give you what you desire," Jun Chong said, displeasure evident in his tone, laced with a hint of warning.
"You know what I want?"
The words slipped out before he could stop them, causing Jun Chong to pause in surprise and leaving me breathless.
That voice was not mine; it was too pure and tender, reminiscent of an infant's innocence.
Jun Chong stared at me for a while, but the shadow remained silent, blinking back at him with innocent eyes. Eventually, unable to withstand his piercing gaze, I lowered my head in defeat.
It wasn't until Jun Chong spoke again that I dared to lift my gaze, revealing his intrigued expression.
"So Su Xun has already taken action. No wonder he was so anxious earlier. However, this means you won't need me to go through extra trouble for your transformation. Tonight, I will infuse you with a soul."
Without waiting for a response, he pulled me along as we continued forward. I had no idea where he was taking me; for a moment, confusion washed over me, and everything around me faded into darkness. When my vision cleared again, we stood beneath a massive Cherry Blossom Tree.
The pink petals of the Cherry Blossom Tree bloomed eternally, never wilting. The only place I knew that had such a tree was the Voidless Realm.
