That night, the sky was overcast, and it wasn't a good night for an outing. Molin and I made some final preparations before setting off.
"Are you ready yet?" Molin urged me at the door, clearly impatient with my slow pace.
I hurriedly grabbed my phone and noticed that the freezer door seemed to be slightly ajar. However, I didn't pay much attention to it and just left.
By the time we arrived at Lingfeng's House, it was only eleven-thirty. His home was a private residence with three impressive stories. As I pondered how to get inside, I saw Molin calmly pull out a key and unlock the door as if it were his own home.
I was taken aback.
"You can pick locks?"
"Nope."
"Then how can you open the door?"
"I borrowed this from him today." Molin waved the key in his hand and flashed me a grin. It dawned on me that when he mentioned doing something to Ling Feng earlier, this was what he meant. "Make sure you hold onto the Invisibility Talisman; don’t let it fall."
"Got it."
Since Molin wanted to avoid drawing attention, we used the Invisibility Talisman to sneak in tonight.
Ling Feng's parents were not home, and aside from the light in Ling Feng's room on the east side of the second floor, the rest of the house was shrouded in darkness.
Without being able to turn on any lights, I had no choice but to tightly grip Molin's sleeve as we moved forward.
"Where are we going?"
"Let's go check what he's doing in his bedroom."
As we made our way up, I felt like a thief, but Molin seemed to be quite accustomed to this kind of thing.
We climbed the stairs, and fortunately, Ling Feng had just come out of the bathroom. We slipped into his room just as he closed the door behind him.
Ling Feng appeared to be reading. His major was finance, and aside from training, he spent most of his time studying. Even at this late hour, he wasn't resting, and his computer was turned off.
Molin looked around while I sat on the side observing Ling Feng's bedroom. It was clean and tidy, with just a bed, a desk, and a wardrobe. On the bedside table was a photo of him with Lin You.
In the picture, Lin You looked youthful and carefree, playfully hugging Ling Feng while both of them smiled happily.
I stared at that photo for a long time, remembering that Lin You's fate was uncertain now, filling me with anxiety.
At that moment, the clock struck midnight. Molin tapped my shoulder; Ling Feng had already stood up to gather his things, seemingly preparing for bed.
Just then, out of the corner of my eye, I caught sight of Lin You in that photo—blood streaming from her seven orifices, struggling desperately and shouting something I couldn't hear.
"Xiao You."
I reached for the photo, but Molin stopped me with a hand. In doing so, we accidentally knocked over the frame, catching Ling Feng's attention.
"How did it suddenly fall?" Ling Feng walked over to the bed and set the frame back upright. He then moved to close the curtains but suddenly paused and called out, "Xiao You."
Molin and I exchanged glances and rushed to the window to look down. There, under the streetlight across the road stood Lin You in a red dress, waving at Ling Feng.
As soon as Ling Feng saw Lin You, he dashed outside without hesitation. Molin and I hurried after him but found no trace of Ling Feng at the front door—Lin You was also nowhere to be seen.
"How could she suddenly disappear?"
"The time is running out; let's talk in the living room."
If it really looked like the photo, Ling Feng would definitely appear in the living room.
By the time we reached the living room, Ling Feng was walking in from outside, dejected and with droopy eyes. He sat down on the sofa, staring blankly at the entrance.
"Let's go take a look."
I nodded and followed Molin forward. Just a few steps in, Molin suddenly blocked my path. A fierce wind seemed to blow in from nowhere, strong enough to cut against my skin.
Molin and I were pushed back step by step, struggling to keep our eyes open. I could only hear Molin muttering something under his breath as he raised a talisman and shouted, "Calming Wind Spell."
The wind stopped abruptly. Before I could adjust my clothes, I saw the living room door swing open from the outside. It seemed something was standing there. Ling Feng's eyes widened in terror, and before long, he clutched his neck tightly with both hands, leaning against the sofa as if he were trying to choke himself.
"This is bad! We need to keep an eye on him!"
Molin shouted and tried to rush over but was suddenly knocked back. I caught him. "What happened?"
"Something is blocking the way."
"What?"
I stepped forward to where Molin had been standing and reached out with my hand. I discovered an invisible wall separating us from Ling Feng.
"Hurry up and think of a way! Ling Feng looks like he can't hold on much longer."
I noticed that Ling Feng's face was turning blue from choking, which made me even more anxious. Molin got up from the ground and handed me a silver sabre. "Be careful with this. I'll go around and check things out."
"Be careful."
I glanced at the time; it was already ten minutes past. If Molin didn't make it in under a minute, Ling Feng would die—he couldn't hold on much longer.
My palm was sweaty around the sabre's handle. Since I was positioned sideways, I couldn't see if Lin You was reflected in the display case.
"Are you scared? Worried? What does it feel like to see your friend about to die?" A sudden chill swept past my ear, causing me to shudder. I almost dropped Sabre, turning to find Lin You standing beside me with a smile, tilting her head. "Anxin."
"Who are you really? Why are you pretending to be Lin You? Why do you want to harm Ling Feng?"
"Harm him? Is that what it is?" Lin You suddenly reached out toward Ling Feng's direction, her hand grasping weakly. Over there, Ling Feng tightened his grip on his own neck, desperately choking himself, his legs kicking wildly as if he were on the brink of death. "He’s running out of breath!"
"What do you want? Is Soul Website your doing?"
"You’re quite clever," Lin You said lightly, laughing joyfully as she spoke. "That person wasn’t wrong; the blood of pure Yin and pure Yang is truly delicious. A few sips gave me this immense power."
"That person?"
I suddenly recalled when Tao Wu was captured at the hospital; she had mentioned that Jun Chong had forced her into those actions. However, Jun Chong denied it, leading us to suspect someone might be impersonating him to incite others.
Though it was merely speculation, hearing those three words from her lips today inexplicably connected me to that incident, and deep down I felt a possibility—they might be the same person.
"That person told me that as long as I gained power, I could make the one I love serve me. At first, I thought he loved you, so I controlled her and had a big fight with you. Later, I realized he loved Lin You instead, so I took her over. I even deliberately got together with Ling Feng just to annoy him. Hmph, serves him right for not having feelings for me; it’s good to irritate him."
Lin You gently caressed her cheek, gazing at her reflection in the glass with the bliss of a woman in love, but that expression quickly morphed into a wave of Malice directed at me.
"But I'm still short of something; I can't maintain this for long. People with pure Yin and pure Yang are rare around here, and those available are nearly dried up. So I need more blood, but I can't find any. At that moment, that person told me your blood could grant me eternal strength and even control his heart to live for me alone—loving only me for a lifetime—so we could be together. Moreover, tonight is both my death anniversary and the anniversary of my acquaintance with Molin; it's the perfect day for a commemoration."
"So you sent Ling Feng's photo to my house just to lure me here today?"
"Yes."
Now everything made sense; I understood the changes in Lin You's behavior.
This woman had been manipulated into establishing Soul Website to seek out those with pure Yin and pure Yang blood in order to win Molin's heart. She obtained their blood while that person received money in return.
She had put thought into this commemorative night, but that didn’t justify murder.
I tightened my grip on the Sabre in my hand, while my other hand moved to my left waist, silently reciting a spell. I took a step back to maintain a safe distance from her.
Lin You did not come forward to stop me; she simply tilted her head, watching Molin rush past the barrier to Ling Feng's side.
But he couldn't pull Ling Feng's hand away.
Lin You smiled. "Anxin, look at him. This serious expression is when he looks the most handsome. Back when he saved me, he was even braver than he is now. From that moment on, I vowed to be with him. But he said it was impossible because I'm a Zombie and he's human."
"…"
"I didn't understand back then. I thought I wasn't good enough, not like a human, so I worked hard to learn. But when I finally confessed to him with hope in my heart, all I got in return was a knife in my chest. He stabbed me with the silver Sabre, and I was so close to dying."
At this point, she suddenly smiled at me, sending chills down my spine. "You see, it's this very one you're holding, and it still has my blood on it!"
I shuddered at her words. Over there, I could hear glass shattering; in the blink of an eye, Molin had appeared before us, while Ling Feng lay unconscious on the sofa, his life hanging by a thread.
The Hairpin in my palm suddenly turned icy cold, and I realized my neck was being gripped tightly.
"Molin, you can't defeat me now. If you want to save her, marry me." Lin You was close enough that I could feel her breath against my skin as she tightened her grip on my neck, slowly closing in. "And you, Gu Anxin, if you truly know where the real Lin You is, then you should persuade him to marry me; otherwise, you'll die too."
