I never expected it would be so easy to get rid of it, which left me terrified for the past couple of days. As a result, I ended up eating an unusually large breakfast, causing Lin You to look at me in surprise.
"Aren't you trying to lose weight? Why are you eating so much?"
"To calm my nerves," I replied slowly. This made Lin You put down her soy milk and lean closer, whispering, "Is it about Chu Fan?"
I shook my head and then told her about the Human Skin Mask incident, which turned Lin You's face pale. "Are you okay? Why didn't you tell me?"
"You had your phone off. Thankfully, everything is fine now."
"I'm sorry; I couldn't turn it on yesterday due to some issues." Lin You hesitated a bit. I knew what she was referring to but didn’t press her further. Suddenly, she pouted and said, "Have you told Chu Fan about this? Since he’s a ghost, it would be easier for you to find him. With him looking out for you, you can relax."
I swallowed the last sip of soy milk and looked at Lin You suspiciously. After knowing her for so many years, she wasn't the type to casually suggest something like that.
Putting down the soy milk box, I stared at her. "Xiao You, tell me if he said or did something to you."
Lin You's expression froze for a moment before she replied, "No. I need to use the restroom."
Her eyes flickered, and her behavior was strange—there was definitely something going on!
I followed her.
I wasn't afraid that Jun Chong had put something in Lin You's drink to make her speak up for him; I was more worried that Lin You had some leverage over him and wasn't telling me, just to keep me from worrying.
I only have one good friend, and I don't want her to get into trouble because of me.
"Gu Anxin, watch out for the basketball!"
Before I even reached the restroom door, I heard someone shouting at me from a distance.
When I turned around, I realized that what was flying through the air wasn't a basketball at all, but a woman's head.
I recognized that face; it belonged to that woman.
My instinct was to run, but my legs felt as heavy as lead, unable to move. My arms hung limply at my sides, and all I could do was watch helplessly as the head flew toward me and smashed into my face.
The violent impact brought not only pain but also a foul taste of blood. Suddenly, two hands emerged from that head, reaching for my face, their sharp and piercing voice ringing in my ears.
"This face is finally mine."
"No, no! It's not!" I screamed loudly, flailing my arms to cover my face, determined not to let her have her way.
This is my face; no one can take it away from me.
"Anxin, what's wrong? Don't scare me, Anxin! Anxin!"
Lin You was startled to see me like this, gripping my hand tightly. It was only then that I realized I had somehow ended up in the infirmary.
"How did I get here?"
"You got hit right in the face with a basketball and then fainted. You scared me half to death! Even if I don't tell you what Chu Fan wanted from me, you don't have to make me feel bad like this!" Lin You sighed and explained, "Chu Fan just asked me to take good care of you since he has something going on these days. Although he's a ghost, I think he still cares about you. That's why he thought maybe you should try to connect with him in a different way, considering your life is literally in his hands."
Lin You was explaining this seriously, but I looked up and caught a glimpse of our reflections in the window glass, and suddenly felt very uneasy.
"Xiao You, look at my face and tell me, who am I?"
