I jumped out of bed, the bright light of day streaming through the curtains, warming me and dispelling the chill that had settled in my bones.
I let out a sigh of relief; it had all been just a dream. But this time, the dream felt more real than the last, and even now, my hands trembled uncontrollably.
"It's just a dream; it's nothing to worry about."
I patted my face, got out of bed to wash up, and then headed out to buy breakfast.
I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Gu Anxin. I'm twenty-three years old and a senior in college. I rent an apartment near campus mainly for convenience since I work part-time.
Although my family's financial situation is decent, I feel that at my age, I shouldn't rely on my parents for everything, so working is a necessity.
"Anxin, over here!"
As soon as I stepped downstairs, I saw Lin You getting out of a private car, carrying several large bags as she walked toward me and pulled me back upstairs.
"Xiao You, I have class this morning!"
Lin You expertly made her way to my room and tossed all the bags onto my bed with a flourish. She clapped her hands together and said, "These are all gifts from your big sister."
"So many?"
I looked at the numerous bags filled with everything from cosmetics to clothes and food, a bit surprised. "Did you get dumped by a guy again, so you went on a shopping spree?"
"Gu Anxin, you're the one who got dumped!" Lin You pouted in dissatisfaction, mocking me. "Oh, you don't even have a man, so you wouldn't know what it feels like to be dumped."
"Hmph, I married a man in my dreams!"
As soon as the words left my mouth, I was stunned myself. I hadn't spoken just now, but that voice was undeniably mine. The scene from last night flashed back into my mind.
Lin You was already rolling on the bed with laughter, clutching her stomach and tears streaming down her face. "Anxin, are you trying to kill me with laughter? Hahaha, how can you be so funny? Hahaha."
"I'm not talking to you anymore; I'm going out."
I turned to leave, but Lin You quickly caught up with me. "Okay, okay, I won't laugh anymore. I'll go with you."
We hadn't walked far when Lin You stopped me again, staring intently at my face. "Why does your complexion look so bad? You're pale with a hint of green, and your forehead looks dark!"
"Really?"
I felt a bit guilty as the fragments of that dream flickered in my mind. Lin You's words made my heart tremble, and unexpectedly, she burst into laughter.
"I was just kidding! I just thought your complexion really doesn't look good. Tomorrow is the big basketball game with several major schools. I've heard that Chu Fan, the heartthrob from Qingyang University, will be there too. And since you're our basketball team's manager, you'll have more chances to interact with him than others. What if he ends up liking you? So we need to prepare well."
As she spoke, Lin You had already grabbed a Face Mask from the cosmetics bag. I put it on; the icy touch made me shiver involuntarily before I realized it was just a Face Mask.
But the touch was exactly the same as the hand from last night.
"Me? Don't joke around. Someone like that would never look my way. You should just go for it yourself!"
Lin You played with the small box containing the Face Mask. "Anxin, you have to make sure to win over Chu Fan for your sister's sake. Show Li Li who's boss and see if she dares to act so arrogant in the future."
"But I—"
Lin You completely ignored my protest. "Just put this on for now. I'm going downstairs to grab something to eat."
Li Li was a student at our school, always bragging that Chu Fan was her boyfriend, though there was no official confirmation. Lin You had a feud with her, so this was a perfect opportunity.
I shook my head and chuckled lightly, closing my eyes, not understanding why I had to be involved in their rivalry.
My face felt cold, and I began to feel drowsy; I hadn't slept well last night due to nightmares.
In my hazy state, I seemed to see a man appear beside me. Then, a hand slipped into my clothes, pressing against my skin—cold as ice yet strangely comforting.
