I sighed and gently tapped my fingers on her forehead, casting a spell.
"Look into my eyes."
She stared blankly at me, her gaze gradually shifting from fear to a dazed state.
"Tell me, what is your name?"
" Liu Mei."
"Do you want to leave here?"
"Yes."
"Do you want revenge?"
"Yes!"
Liu Mei's eyes grew resolute as she suddenly knelt before me, tears streaming down her face.
"Please, take me away from here."
"I don't want to stay here any longer."
"This place is no place for humans!"
"The men here are beasts!"
I leaned down and helped her up, pointing in the direction where Wang Wancai and the others were drinking.
"If you want revenge, you can go kill them right now."
Liu Mei turned to look, her eyes blazing with hatred.
She remained still, her body trembling with anger.
I asked her, "Are you unwilling?"
Liu Mei took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and let two streams of tears fall.
"I am willing."
"But I can't; my child is still here."
"If I can't take my child with me, I'd rather not escape."
I looked at her and asked, "Aren't you afraid of me?"
Liu Mei shook her head.
"Why not?"
"You must be here to save us; you are our benefactor."
I smiled, "You believe that so easily?"
Liu Mei nodded, "Yes."
"Even if I'm not human, you would still believe?"
A flicker of surprise crossed Liu Mei's eyes before she regained her composure.
"If you can help us escape and take revenge for us, then you are our god."
Liu Mei was a woman from the county town. A few years ago, she graduated from high school and went traveling with friends. Out of a moment of kindness, she helped someone and was sold into the village by human traffickers. The traffickers saw her in a sleeveless dress and smiled suggestively.
"Little girl, dressed like that, aren't you just trying to entice men?"
"You snuck out just to meet someone online?"
Liu Mei frowned and looked at him coldly.
"What does it have to do with you?"
The trafficker's expression stiffened, then he sneered.
"It really doesn't concern me."
"But now you're caught by me."
"If you want to live, you'd better cooperate with me."
Liu Mei tried to bribe him with money, but the trafficker refused.
"You're so beautiful; how could I let you get away?" he said, ignoring her struggles as he forcibly tied her up and threw her into the vehicle.
She wanted to call for help, but the trafficker spoke first. "Don't believe her!"
"This girl is my sister; she eloped with someone, and I'm taking her home!"
Liu Mei anxiously explained, hoping to reveal the trafficker's true nature to the passersby. However, they looked at her with disdain, mocking her for her shamelessness.
"She looks pretty enough; how could she run off with someone at such a young age?"
"These young girls nowadays really have no sense of propriety."
"If my daughter ran off with someone, I'd break her legs!"
Taken away by the trafficker, Liu Mei cried out for help, but no one came to her aid. She was sold to a small village deep in the mountains and became Bachelor’s wife.
Every day she thought about escaping, but each time she was caught and brought back. The more she struggled, the harsher the punishment she received.
Bachelor gradually grew tired of her resistance and began to torment her in various ways. In the dead of winter, he stripped her bare and threw her into the river, wielding a bamboo pole to whip her.
Whenever she attempted to climb out, she would receive a brutal beating. The river water was icy cold, making her shiver uncontrollably, and not a single person came to save her.
A passing woman spat at her and muttered filthy words. "Shameless little wretch; you deserve to be sold here."
"If Old Li hadn't been willing to buy you, you'd have starved to death outside."
"You should be grateful to Old Li; what's wrong with being with him? You won't have to worry about food or drink, and you'll have a man who cares for you."
