On my way home, I was thinking about finding a new job when my college roommate called me.
"Hua Yu, I heard you got into some trouble?"
I was surprised. "How did you know?"
"Don't worry about how I found out. Are you short on cash?"
I nodded. "Yes."
"How much do you need?"
I hesitated for a moment. "Fifty thousand."
"Send me your account number."
"Zhao Bing..." I didn't know what to say.
Zhao Bing impatiently said, "Why are you talking so much? Just send me the account number; it will be in your account within ten minutes."
"Oh right, didn't you quit your job? Come work at our company. With your skills and qualifications, it will definitely be fine. I'll talk to our boss right away; just wait for the news."
Five minutes later, I received a transfer notification.
Looking at the extra one hundred thousand in my bank account, I felt warm inside. This is what brotherhood is about.
In college, we would tease each other, argue, and even get into fights. But after graduation, we never lost touch. Whenever I faced difficulties, Zhao Bing was always the first to show up.
Shaking off my thoughts, I immediately transferred the money to my mother and then arranged to meet Qian Mengyao.
The next day, outside the Civil Affairs Bureau.
As soon as Qian Mengyao saw me, she pulled me aside.
"Hua Yu, apologize to me, and I'll forgive you. We won't get a divorce."
I shook off Qian Mengyao's hand and replied coldly, "Just sign the agreement."
Saying this, I tossed the prepared agreement at her.
Qian Mengyao's expression darkened. "Zeng Huayu, can't you think about me for once?"
"Liu Guangxiang is really on his last legs; I just want to fulfill his wishes one last time."
I sneered, "I'm thinking about you! After the divorce, you can fulfill whoever you want. Isn't that great?"
"Stop talking nonsense and sign the agreement."
Seeing that I was resolute, Qian Mengyao had no choice but to sign the document.
After she finished signing, her eyes turned red.
"Zeng Huayu, you're so heartless."
"Don't worry; I won't cling to you."
"If Liu Guangxiang passes away, I won't be able to live on either."
I couldn't be bothered to argue with Qian Mengyao any longer and turned to leave.
That night, Qian Mengyao sent me a message.
"Zeng Huayu, where have you gone?"
Seeing this message made me sneer. So it took her over a month to realize I had left home? It showed just how insignificant I was in her eyes.
I didn't reply to Qian Mengyao; she could fend for herself.
A few weeks later, I suddenly received a call from the hospital doctor.
"Mr. Zeng, could you come to the hospital?"
I was surprised. "Is there something wrong?"
"Your wife... no, Ms. Qian's situation is a bit special, and we need to discuss it with you."
I was taken aback.
Hadn't I already divorced Qian Mengyao?
Then it hit me.
We were still in the cooling-off period after the divorce, which meant that legally, I was still her husband.
That's why the doctor had contacted me.
Curiosity piqued, I made my way to the hospital.
As soon as I entered the ward, I was met by an elderly man and woman who suddenly knelt before me, tears streaming down their faces.
"Zeng Huayu, our family only has Liu Guangxiang as our child. Can you please do this for him just once?"
"You're in good health; you can have more children in the future."
"Liu Guangxiang is running out of time; we can't let him leave with regrets!"
I was stunned, and it took me a moment to realize that these were Liu Guangxiang's parents.
They were kneeling before me because they wanted Qian Mengyao to give them a grandchild to carry on the the Liu Family name.
Once I understood what was happening, I wasn't as surprised anymore.
Given who Liu Guangxiang was, it was clear his parents weren't much better off either, capable of making such an unreasonable request.
But it didn't matter; I had already divorced Qian Mengyao.
The two of them continued their emotional plea, trying to morally pressure me into agreeing.
Seeing that I remained silent, Liu Guangxiang's parents exchanged glances and began to cry even louder.
At that moment, Qian Mengyao suddenly fainted.
