"Red Lotus!" Li Xiaonan gazed down at the little girl in his arms, his eyelids slowly lowering as he nervously called her name.
He held Red Lotus tightly, fragments of memories swirling in his mind.
A man cradled a cold corpse, his expression colder than the body itself.
In a fit of rage, he slaughtered the entire Demon City, the ground littered with corpses, merely to accompany the one in his arms to the grave.
The rain that day fell like blood, washing over the man's body but failing to erase the regret in his heart.
If only he had arrived sooner, perhaps everything would have been different.
He buried his self-reproach deep within; that day, he had personally set fire to the corpse.
The flames danced, and when everything turned to ash, he still cried. He whispered, "I wonder if demons are reborn in the Underworld after they die. If so, no matter if you come back as a human, demon, or spirit in your next life, you can find me. You will always be my brother."
As it turned out, while demons do not reincarnate in the Underworld upon death, they can be reborn from the Blood Pool.
Aries had died; his soul drifted aimlessly in the demon realm, his consciousness gradually fading. It was only when Li Xiaonan spoke those words that a glimmer of light appeared in his heart.
He thought of reincarnating quickly so he could return to his leader's side and once again gallop across the battlefield.
Unfortunately, fate played a cruel trick on him. During his rebirth from the Blood Pool, he hurriedly took the wrong path and accidentally became a girl, unable to fully remember Li Xiaonan's words.
Even when he encountered the Demon Emperor, due to the lingering scent from Li Xiaonan's self-detonation, he mistook someone for another.
Tears welled up in Li Xiaonan's eyes as he looked at the adorable face in his arms, his heart aching with pain.
"Originally... originally... the person you were looking for is me... Why do those memories always come late?"
The Demon Emperor furrowed his brows slightly and laughed, "Ha ha! Do you hate me? Come on! Kill me! I am immortal, come on!"
Li Xiaonan glanced at the now unremarkable Demon Emperor and said, "I promised Hong Lian not to harm you."
He held Hong Lian in his arms, leaving the bewildered Demon Emperor behind as he disappeared into the ground amidst the swirling yellow sand.
He looked at the fainted Hong Lian, slowly exhaling a breath of turbid air. He brought his hands together, and a ray of Buddha light fell from his palms onto Hong Lian's body.
She let out a soft moan, furrowing her brows as she opened her eyes.
Li Xiaonan felt a surge of joy and was about to change his hand seals.
Two unusual red hues appeared on Hong Lian's cheeks. She suddenly spat out a mouthful of black blood and fainted again.
"What’s happening?" Li Xiaonan grasped Hong Lian's wrist with one hand, sending a stream of Buddha's Vital Energy into her body.
Her small frame felt like a black hole, with no trace of the Buddha Infant or any meridians to be found.
Gritting his teeth, Li Xiaonan helped Hong Lian sit up and desperately urged the Buddha's Vital Energy within him into her body.
But it all seemed to sink into the sea without a trace, vanishing in an instant.
Time passed second by second, and Li Xiaonan's Buddha's Vital Energy gradually dried up, while Hong Lian's body showed no signs of change.
After he squeezed out the last bit of Buddha's Vital Energy, Li Xiaonan's heart sank to the bottom of an abyss, dark energy rising on his face.
This was precisely the precursor to the birth of an Inner Demon. His expression suddenly turned cold as he cursed, "Useless fool! You deserve to die!"
Li Xiaonan's expression changed dramatically as he cried out in despair, "I... I am useless... I am useless! Ahhh!"
He threw his head back and roared, allowing tears to stream down his face. The Spirit Tree on his Spirit Platform trembled violently, and a burst of green light exploded like fireworks, illuminating the entire Spirit Platform.
The treasure box containing the Harmony Technique opened once more, revealing the complete understanding of realms before Li Xiaonan.
He laughed maniacally, wiping away the tears on his face. With determination, he tore off the black robe from Hong Lian.
A tender body was fully revealed. He gently caressed Hong Lian's burning cheek and said, "Don't worry, I won't let you leave me again! No matter if you are male or female, demon or Buddha, no one can take you away from my side!"
Li Xiaonan helped Hong Lian sit up properly and activated the Harmony Technique. The Buddha Infant in his Dantian suddenly opened its eyes wide. Gradually, thick black hair began to grow on its shining head, transforming from a handsome monk into a long-haired beauty in an instant.
Buddhism and Taoism—Obedient Dragon II—what does it matter again!
He formed hand seals, and the Yuan Ying surged from his body into Hong Lian's.
Within her dark body, a light gradually emerged. A Buddha bead settled in her Dantian, looking as if it were a Luminous Pearl covered in dust, appearing grayish.
Li Xiaonan approached the bead, his right hand forming a sword gesture as he drew a few lines in the air. A golden light infused into the Buddha bead.
The bead emitted a faint halo, floating in mid-air.
"Crack!"
The bead shattered, revealing a small Buddha Infant curled up with its legs hugged close to its body, floating in the air.
A smile flickered at the corner of Li Xiaonan's mouth as he swiftly embraced Hong Lian's Buddha Infant in his arms and affectionately stroked her head.
He slowly closed his eyes and continued to channel his True Essence into Hong Lian's Yuan Ying.
Time passed slowly, and Hong Lian furrowed her brows, gradually opening her eyes.
She felt a warm breath against her ear, tickling her. Turning her head slightly, she saw Li Xiaonan's handsome face resting on her frail shoulder. Her cheeks flushed as she attempted to break free from his embrace, only to find his arms tightly wrapped around her.
Then she realized something was wrong with her body. Where were her clothes?
"Ah!" she screamed, which also startled Li Xiaonan awake. He blinked sleepily, slowly loosening his hold on Hong Lian and tossing a tattered black robe over her shoulders.
He stood up coldly, his brow furrowing. The Buddha Infant in his Dantian had already transformed into a half Yuan Ying, yet the small red mark between his brows remained.
These changes didn’t seem to bother him; instead, he felt a strange sensation in his heart. A small figure, entirely shrouded in darkness, had emerged from that spot—similar to a Yuan Ying but only one-third the size of the one in his Dantian.
Irritated, he began to pace within the cave.
What is happening? Is this my Inner Demon?
As his agitation grew, the Inner Demon within him stirred as well. It opened its eyes—two empty white sockets—and a strange smile crept across its lips.
Li Xiaonan felt a sudden tightness in his chest and collapsed to his knees.
Hong Lian, who had been observing him closely, gasped in surprise. "Nameless? What’s wrong with you?"
Li Xiaonan slowly raised his head to look at Hong Lian, who covered her mouth in shock.
His once bright black eyes were gone, leaving only stark white behind.
Clenching his teeth, Li Xiaonan sat cross-legged and took a deep breath, attempting to recite the Heart Sutra. However, he stumbled over the words several times.
He trembled all over as he began to chant the Six-Character Great Bright Mantra, but his tongue felt as if it were numb, and he couldn't utter a single word.
"Nameless! I'll help you!" Hong Lian pressed her small hands on Li Xiaonan's hand and joined her palms together, saying, "Om Mani Padme Hum!"
Li Xiaonan suddenly focused his mind, his eyes rolled back, and he expelled a breath of black mist, finally returning to his original form.
"Nameless?"
He forced a faint smile and said, "It's nothing..."
"Is it the Inner Demon? How could you have an Inner Demon? Is it because of me?" Tears shimmered in Hong Lian's bright eyes.
Li Xiaonan smiled at her, trembling as he touched her face. "Impulsiveness is the devil; why don't you learn from your mistakes? Now that you've become a girl, how can you still be my brother?"
He remembered Aries but still couldn't recall who he was.
Hong Lian was taken aback, staring at him blankly. "Am I... looking for you?"
Li Xiaonan nodded and said, "I want to go to the Cultivation Realm. Will you come with me?"
For a brief moment, Hong Lian was stunned, and her heart seemed to explode with fireworks—brilliant and colorful. She heard beautiful sounds of chanting in her ears and laughed as she leaped into Li Xiaonan's arms.
"It's you! Hong Lian is so happy! I've finally found you!"
Li Xiaonan lost his balance and fell directly to the ground.
He gently patted her back, feeling a strange sensation rising within him.
It was hard to imagine that this adorable little girl had once been his brother. Perhaps it was better not to tell her; this odd feeling was something he could bear alone.
Li Xiaonan took Hong Lian's hand and said, "Let's go to the Cultivation Realm!"
"What about Dustless? Although I haven't known him for long, I feel like he is very lonely and pitiful..."
"Don't worry, I'll come back. I won't abandon him; after all, he is a part of my brother."
"Your brother?" Hong Lian blinked her long eyelashes, looking at Li Xiaonan.
"Yes, Dustless is the Inner Demon that my brother was expelled with by the elders of the Four Great Buddhist Sects."
"Nameless, have you also given birth to an Inner Demon?" Hong Lian recalled Li Xiaonan's strange demeanor earlier and couldn't help but ask.
Li Xiaonan paused for a moment and nodded. He looked at Hong Lian's tightly furrowed brows and smiled, "It's okay; everything will pass."
Hong Lian nodded, her face showing a seriousness that was not typical for her age.
Silly Nameless, do you think I don't know? The hardest part of the path of Buddhism is the Inner Demon. A Buddha can save demons but cannot save their own Inner Demon.
But it's okay; I, Hong Lian, will be by your side for eternity and help you conquer your Inner Demon!
Hong Lian tightly grasped Li Xiaonan's hand, determined never to let go again.
Li Xiaonan waved his right hand, and a crack appeared before them. The two of them flew hand in hand into the passage leading to the Cultivation Realm.
As their figures vanished, the crack disappeared as well.
In the empty underground cave, a dark figure flashed into view. With a fierce expression, he glared at the direction where the two had disappeared and shouted, "Hong Lian! You dare to betray me! I will never let you go! Never!"
Suddenly, two figures appeared on the bustling street—one tall and one short, one male and one female.
They held hands and smiled at each other, looking particularly beautiful in the setting sun of Qingyu City.
"Is this the human realm? So many people! So much delicious food!" Hong Lian sniffed the air and laughed.
"Silly girl, you're not a demon anymore. Why are you still thinking about eating humans?"
"But I'm hungry! Can we find a place to eat?"
"Sure, whatever you say."
Li Xiaonan looked up at the towering city walls, feeling a strange sense of familiarity.
In a teahouse, the two sat by the window. Hong Lian played with her chopsticks while Li Xiaonan's gaze remained fixed on the bustling crowd below.
"Sister Ling! Look! It's Brother Xiaonan! I told you he was back!" Lu Nishang sensed the power of their souls and rushed into the teahouse with the other girls.
The waiter, who was pouring tea for Li and Hong, was startled and accidentally splashed hot water onto Hong Lian.
Li Xiaonan frowned, anger bubbling up inside him. He slapped the waiter away, who staggered back, stars in his eyes, blood mixing with his teeth as he spat them out.
Hong Lian was taken aback and quickly grabbed Li Xiaonan, who was about to kick the waiter. "Nameless, I'm fine! Stop it!"
