"Here! Breakfast!" Li Xiaonan had just stepped out of the dormitory when he encountered Chen Mo, who was waiting at the door.
He took the steamed bun, egg, and milk, frowning as he said, "Are you that free?"
"I'm sweet! From now on, I want to stick to you every moment, making sure other women stay far away from you!" Chen Mo squinted her eyes with a bright smile.
Such a radiant smile had once appeared on Li Yanrong's face.
Li Xiaonan couldn't help but sigh inwardly. He hadn't slept a wink all night, all because of Cunning Li's words: "One step out is paradise!"
But if he truly took that step, what would happen to Ling Kui and the others?
He would be happy in paradise, while they would surely fall into hell forever.
He couldn't help but let out a self-deprecating chuckle.
Now, Li Xiaonan couldn't even remember what Ling Kui looked like.
Since returning to Earth, his memories of the Starry Illusion Continent were rapidly fading.
Aside from the Soul Ring on his finger still shimmering with light, everything else seemed as if it had never happened.
Li Xiaonan had tried to start cultivating again, but several days had passed without feeling even a trace of Spiritual Energy, let alone reaching the Purple Mansion.
He shook his head and replied, "Heh, besides you, which other woman would stick to me?"
"That might not be the case!" Chen Mo's beautiful eyes sparkled as she smiled and said, "Let's have lunch together!"
"No, I plan to find that woman."
"Have you thought it through? Aren't you going to meet her?"
"What’s there to meet? It's been twenty years. Without her, haven't I been doing just fine with Dad?"
Li Xiaonan slowly walked toward the teaching building, taking a big bite of his bun, the juicy filling spilling out, seemingly not made by the cafeteria lady.
He couldn't help but glance at Chen Mo.
Her red hair was neatly tied up, and with her hands behind her back, she walked briskly.
Chen Mo! What am I supposed to do with you? The better you treat me, the more I owe you; I could never repay you in this lifetime...
Feeling Li Xiaonan's gaze, Chen Mo suddenly turned her head and said, "Why are you looking at me like that? I know, it's because I'm so good-looking!"
"No, your face looks different." Li Xiaonan snapped back to reality and took another bite of his bun.
"How rude! I'm going to class now. I'll call you later!"
"I won't answer," Li Xiaonan replied softly, but unfortunately, Chen Mo had already run off and didn't hear him.
He wiped his mouth, finishing off the breakfast that Chen Mo had brought him, and headed straight for the teaching building.
“Xiao Nan, you’re here early.”
The empty classroom had only one person.
Qin Yu stood at the podium, organizing his lecture notes.
“You’re early too, Teacher Qin.”
In Li Xiaonan's impression, university professors were synonymous with arriving just as the bell rang, but Qin Yu was clearly an exception.
He casually picked a row of seats, tossed his backpack down, and reserved a spot for his roommate.
“Um… I bought too much for breakfast. It would be a waste if I can’t finish it, so here you go!” Qin Yu said with a smile as he set down a bag.
When Li Xiaonan looked inside, she saw buns, eggs, and milk. The way it was packed didn’t look like leftovers; it seemed more like something he had intentionally bought extra.
This scene seemed to echo Chen Mo's earlier words perfectly.
She nodded and said, “Thank you!”
A crisp ringtone suddenly rang from Qin Yu's pocket.
“Hello? Yes! Is this Li Xiaonan? Uh-huh, okay…”
Qin Yu hurriedly hung up the phone, his expression turning worried. “The principal is looking for you. He wants you to go to the Principal's Office right now.”
The principal is looking for me? Heh, what's this about?
Li Xiaonan's lips curled slightly, a smile that felt somewhat cold.
He adjusted his glasses, which were held together with glue, and picked up his backpack as he walked outside.
Qin Yu bit her full lips lightly. Why did he, despite being just a child, have such a detached expression?
What had he been through?
Li Xiaonan stood quietly in front of the Principal's Office, carrying a faded blue canvas backpack that had long since lost its color.
The Principal's Office was located in an independent two-story villa, exuding an air of luxury.
The double red lacquered doors were quite exquisite.
To be honest, even today, Li Xiaonan had no idea what the principal looked like. He was still very curious about this man who had taken his mother away from him.
He gently knocked on the door.
"Please come in."
A faint smirk crossed Li Xiaonan's lips.
From the voice, he could tell that the man was filled with exhaustion. But then again, it made sense; his son was a waste, and his wife was already married. What normal person could endure that?
Li Xiaonan pushed the door open and stepped inside. The room was bright, with a long desk behind which stood a row of bookshelves.
It was hard to tell how many books the principal had read.
"You are Li Xiaonan? Please, have a seat!" Fang Ye stood up from his chair. His well-fitted suit could not hide his slightly hunched back.
He was not very tall but was quite lean, with a square face framed by gold-rimmed glasses.
Li Xiaonan frowned slightly, thinking to himself: Is this what the principal looks like?
Without any hesitation, he plopped down onto the sofa.
Fang Ye smiled lightly, seemingly unfazed by Li Xiaonan's rude demeanor. In contrast, Li Xiaonan immediately judged his smile as—creepy!
"Li Xiaonan, my wife Su Mei came to see you yesterday, right?"
"Yes, and so what?"
"Child, sometimes it's better to let things go. Why hurt others and yourself in the process?"
Li Xiaonan snorted twice, resting his elbows on his knees. "What a joke! Do you have the guts to do it but not to own up to it?"
"You know better than anyone whether I've done anything wrong. In my life, I, Fang Ye, have been greedy for money, but I have never done anything to betray Mei Mei!"
Li Xiaonan's brow furrowed as he silently cursed: Betray you and your big-headed nonsense!
"That's your business, not mine. If the principal has nothing to discuss, I'll be leaving."
Li Xiaonan was about to get up when Fang Ye stopped him, saying, "Wait! Li Xiaonan, I didn't call you here for myself, but for Su Mei. I think you know who she is, right?"
Li Xiaonan's pupils constricted sharply as he stood up and asked, "What exactly do you want to say?"
"If it weren't for Xiao Chen telling me about this, I would still be buried in ignorance. But I've never blamed Su Mei; it's my debt to her, and I'm trying to repay it with my life."
Li Xiaonan took a deep breath and sat back down on the sofa.
Fang Ye sighed, "Yesterday, when Su Mei came home, her eyes were swollen. I asked her what happened, but she refused to say anything. There's no mother in the world who doesn't love her child. I just hope that when you see Su Mei again, your attitude can be a bit better."
Li Xiaonan looked up with a cold smile and said, "What qualifications do you have to say this to me? A man who can't even raise his son or manage his wife has no right to make demands of me."
He paused slightly, clenching his fists tightly as he continued, "As for her, I have no intention of recognizing her. You can exchange that memory card for money. That's what she wants. And whether I live like mud or something else in my next life has nothing to do with her."
Li Xiaonan threw down his last words and coldly walked toward the door.
As he pulled open the large door, he was taken aback.
Su Mei was standing there at some point; he had no idea how much of their conversation she had heard. Her makeup was completely ruined from crying as she murmured, "Xiao Nan... I'm... I'm sorry for what I did..."
Li Xiaonan frowned slightly and said, "One million; otherwise, I'll ruin your husband's reputation. Other than that, I don't want to talk."
He gently pushed past Su Mei and stepped outside when he suddenly heard her cry out behind him, "No!"
Li Xiaonan felt a sharp pain at the back of his head, and darkness enveloped him as he lost consciousness.
“Xiao Nan… Xiao Nan… Xiao Nan…”
The calls echoed like a beautiful dream.
Although Li Xiaonan couldn't see the faces of those calling out to him, he recognized their voices—his spirit, Mo Yu, Baby, Lu Ni Chang, Xian'er, Nana, Fei'er… and Chen Mo?
Startled, he suddenly opened his eyes, only to find that reality was more terrifying than any dream!
Before him were a pair of small eyes filled with sleep crust—Fang Ye's eyes.
He excitedly grabbed Li Xiaonan's hand and exclaimed, “Great! You’re awake! Do you feel any discomfort? Oh, your mom is handling the paperwork; she’ll be here soon.”
Li Xiaonan glanced around. The walls were white, the sheets were white, and there was a strong smell of disinfectant in the air.
“Is this… the school hospital?”
“No, this is the best hospital in Shanghai! Don’t worry; you’ll be fine.”
Li Xiaonan blinked in disbelief, looking at Fang Ye as if he were a monster. What had caused this sudden change in Fang Ye’s demeanor? Why was he being so attentive?
“Are you thirsty? Do you want some water? Are you hungry? I can go get you something to eat. Look at you—you’re so thin; you must not have been eating well!”
“Wait…” Li Xiaonan said as he shrank back from Fang Ye’s outstretched hand, frowning. “How did I end up in the hospital?”
Fang Ye lowered his head and said, "Yes... it's Dad... I'm sorry, I shouldn't have hit you with the stick..."
"What! You hit me!" Li Xiaonan immediately became furious, recalling the pain at the back of his head before losing consciousness.
Wait, that's not the point!
He stared blankly and asked, "What did you just say... Dad... what Dad..."
"Ye... how could you tell him about this? You should have let him rest properly," Su Mei said, frowning as she walked into the private hospital room with a small bag in hand.
Fang Ye scratched his head awkwardly, and Li Xiaonan suddenly felt a sense of familiarity with that gesture.
Flower Rubbing! This bastard is my father? What is going on?
Wait a minute, if he is my dad, then who is my dad? And don't they have a son who is just like me, a big waste? How did I become their son?
Li Xiaonan suddenly rolled out of bed, but a wave of dizziness hit him hard. Seeing that something was wrong, Fang Ye quickly supported him.
"Kid, I know this is hard for you to accept right now. Once you're healed, your mom and I will explain everything to you. We owe you so much!"
Li Xiaonan waved his hand and gasped, "No... I need to know... right now..."
Fang Ye looked at Su Mei, who sighed and closed the door. She began to recount the story from years ago to Li Xiaonan.
Su Mei sighed and gently wiped the tears from her face. "Xiao Nan, it's all my fault. Your father doesn't even know you. You can be angry with me, but please don't blame your dad, okay? He's a good man."
Li Xiaonan chuckled lightly, "I... I just want to be alone for a while..."
Fang Ye and Su Mei exchanged a glance and nodded before leaving.
"You love her so much..." The annoying ringtone of Li Xiaonan's phone rang again. He glanced at it and saw that it was Scheming calling.
Just when he needed someone to talk to.
He quickly answered the call, "Scheming, I need to talk to you!"
At the same time, on the other end of the line, Scheming said, "Li Xiaoyang, I need to talk to you!"
"Uh..." Both of them were momentarily speechless, but in the end, Li Xiaonan seized the opportunity. "Scheming, something big has happened. My dad is the principal!"
"What?!"
"It's complicated... I'm at the city center hospital right now."
"Okay, I'm on my way!"
