"Hey! So it's a stuttering Little Demon!" the Ten-Winged Demon laughed heartily.
Li Xiaonan chuckled, his silly expression on the Eight-Winged Demon Lord's face could only be described in two words: sleazy!
"Each... each of you... big brothers, hello! I... I heard... Lady Fei Ji..." Li Xiaonan was so exhausted that he was gasping for breath, but who told him to suddenly decide to imitate a stutter?
The big brother across from him was also impatient. "Stop, stop, stop! You mean to say Lady Fei Ji, right? She..." The Ten-Winged Demon rattled off everything Li Xiaonan wanted to know and didn't want to know as if pouring out beans.
Li Xiaonan nodded with a smile, gaining a bit of understanding about this barren land of the Demon Realm.
The Demon Realm is divided into Five Regions based on the cardinal directions, each ruled by a Demon Lord. Lady Fei Ji is the Southern Demon Lord. Although her cultivation level is not as strong as the others, this Witch is known for her ruthless and cunning nature, excelling in schemes and tricks!
This aligned closely with Li Xiaonan's understanding; he didn't expect this lady to have quite the figure!
From the Ten-Winged Demon, Li Xiaonan obtained the most crucial piece of information: after opening the entrance to the Cultivation Realm, Fei Ji had already returned to the Southern Kingdom. In three months, the Five Demon Lords would gather in the Central Land to discuss invading the Cultivation Realm!
He lowered his head slightly and squinted his eyes, thinking: So there should still be time! First, find Ling Kui, then return to the Cultivation Realm. I believe Father-in-law and Senior Bai Luo have already gone to notify the Outer Academy. By three months from now, news of the demon invasion should have spread throughout the Starry Illusion Continent.
"Come on! Let's drink!" The Ten-Winged Demon slapped Li Xiaonan hard on the back and shoved a wine pouch into his hand, laughing, "Tomorrow we set off again! Let's go dig up our first bucket of gold in the Cultivation Realm!"
"Oh oh oh! Our first bucket of gold!" dozens of Little Demons shouted while waving their wine pouches.
Li Xiaonan grinned and took a swig of wine; it was incredibly spicy. He shouted, "Good... good... good..."
The Ten-Winged Demon laughed boisterously, "Of course it's good wine!"
Li Xiaonan's mouth twitched; he wanted to say it was terrible... this taste was far worse than cheap liquor; it tasted like industrial alcohol.
"Little brother, come with us to the Cultivation Realm! It's great there!" suggested the Ten-Winged Demon.
Li Xiaonan smiled and shook his head, gazing longingly into the distance. "I... I want to... seek... the Consort..."
"Hahaha! You crack me up! Just look at those four pairs of pitiful little wings behind you. By the time you reach the Southern Kingdom, you'll probably be eaten!"
Li Xiaonan chuckled, "You can give it a try!" His expression turned cold as the Seven-Level Pagoda suddenly flew out from behind him.
The demons who were drinking and playing cards were completely dumbfounded!
A pagoda radiating golden light appeared before them; they had never seen such dazzling brilliance in their lives. The Demon Realm had its day and night, but whether it was the blood-red Demon Sun or the crescent-shaped crimson Demon Moon, their light was like that of a grain of rice—dim and insignificant.
"A Ten-Winged Demon exclaimed, "You... you're not... stuttering!"
"You are!" With a flick of his finger, Li Xiaonan sent forth waves of golden light from the Seven-Level Pagoda, sucking all the demons inside. He had been waiting for this moment when all the demons let down their guard.
A smirk appeared on his lips as he vanished into the Pagoda. Inside, he addressed the commander Ni Zhi, "How's your injury?"
"Thanks to the blessings of the Bodhisattva, I have fully recovered," Ni Zhi replied with his hands clasped in a gesture of respect.
Li Xiaonan's expression turned serious. "Good. The path of Buddhism now rests upon your shoulders! There are many demons below; do you know what to do?"
"I do! Transform demons into Buddhas! Namo Amitabha Buddha! If I do not enter hell, who will?" Ni Zhi's handsome and kind visage could easily earn him the title of the most handsome monk in the Starry Illusion Continent.
Li Xiaonan nodded and swiftly exited the Seven-Level Pagoda, setting his sights on the so-called Southern Kingdom.
To avoid drawing attention, he transformed himself into an Eight-Winged Demon Lord. Wherever he went, any demon with a cultivation level below Ten Wings would be captured at first glance and sucked into the Pagoda. In just a few days, he had gathered over ten thousand demons, with more than three thousand above Six Wings. The lower-ranked demons were tossed to the second floor to fight among themselves.
Inside the tower, Ni Zhi was no longer fighting alone; all the first batch of demons Li Xiaonan had captured had already been transformed. Now, the speed at which they converted demons had significantly increased.
Riding on his Carefree Fan, he flew through the skies. To others' eyes, it was merely an Eight-Winged Demon Lord soaring through the air. Typically, before anyone could even get a clear look at him, they would be sucked into the Pagoda.
Wherever he went, it was nothing but yellow sand, with no cities, let alone a country. The only thing that marked the passage of time was the constantly alternating Blood Sun and Blood Moon in the sky, signaling the days slipping away.
He flicked his fingers and summoned a demon that had been transformed into Buddha's Envoy from the Seven-Level Pagoda. "Where exactly is the Southern Kingdom?"
"In response to the Bodhisattva, this is already the border of the Southern Kingdom. Ahead, there is a watchtower estimated to have hundreds of Twelve Demon Heads."
"Twelve Wings?" This posed a dilemma for him. Taking down six was definitely manageable, ten could be done with some effort, but hundreds? He would be overwhelmed! It seemed he could only take a roundabout approach and sneak into the Southern Kingdom first.
"Alright, you can go back now!"
"Yes, Bodhisattva! Bodhisattva, the Abbot asked me to inquire when the next batch of demons will arrive; the stock inside the tower is running low."
"So soon! Alright, I understand!" Li Xiaonan waved his hand and flew forward.
It looked like he would have to capture more demons again, but how could he manage hundreds of Twelve Wings? After all, they weren't just cabbages that you could toss into a basket at will.
As he pondered this dilemma, he had already reached what was called the border of the Southern Kingdom. The tall city towers did little to conceal the distant castle with its sharp spires—typical Gothic architecture.
"Who goes there!" A beam of light shone on Li Xiaonan's face, and he immediately raised his hands high. "It's me!"
"You brat, what do you want?" a demon on the city tower questioned.
"I'm here to seek refuge with Lady Fei Ji!"
"Hmph! Just you? Look at those wings on your back; they really are pathetic!"
Li Xiaonan chuckled, "Though my cultivation isn't high, I possess a treasure I seized from the Cultivation Realm, specifically to present to Lady Fei Ji!"
A glint of greed flashed in the eyes of the Twelve-Winged Demon as it sneered, "Treasure? What treasure? Show it to me!"
"Hey! Everyone come and take a look! This is a dazzling Pagoda that can emit sunlight even more powerful than that of the Cultivation world. However, my magical power isn't enough to subdue it yet. I've heard there's a monster trapped inside, and whoever can defeat it will become the true master of the Pagoda. I think only Lady Fei Ji has the ability to do that."
After rambling on, Li Xiaonan transformed the Seven-Level Pagoda into a three-meter tall structure and placed it in the open space before the city.
"A monster? I want to see how formidable it is!" A Twelve-Winged Demon descended from the sky and swiftly flew into the Seven-Level Pagoda.
Li Xiaonan cleared his throat and said, "Xiao Zhi, cue the sound effects."
"Ah! Aah!" The sounds of agonizing screams echoed from within the Seven-Level Pagoda.
"What’s going on? Brothers, let’s go together!" Five more demons rushed in but never returned.
Li Xiaonan sat down with a bag of seeds, though to outsiders, he appeared to be standing seriously by the tower, preventing the demons from continuously entering the Seven-Level Pagoda.
In just one short hour, the city walls were empty. It was unclear whether it was the allure of the treasure or the greed of the demon race that drove them; despite so many having perished before them, not a single one retreated. This kind of determination even startled Li Xiaonan, who had never anticipated such an outcome.
The surroundings fell eerily silent. Li Xiaonan clapped his hands and finally entered the Southern Kingdom.
After flying for a while, he finally reached a place that resembled human habitation. On either side of the wide street stood houses made of stone, cold and devoid of any life.
In front of a three-sided stone building were four large characters carved: "Trading Market." Li Xiaonan paused slightly; he firmly believed that no matter how poor a place might be, it would have its own specialties. After all, fairness is a principle upheld by heaven itself.
Never mind that; finding Ling Kui is more important!
Shaking his head, Li Xiaonan was about to continue flying toward the dark castle when he felt movement from within his body—the Carefree Fan. The closed fan suddenly flared open, vibrating continuously and emitting soft murmurs.
Could it be that the Carefree Fan wants me to go in? Ha ha, I must be out of my mind; after all, the Carefree Fan is merely an inanimate object made from metal and jade. How could it possibly have its own thoughts?
Just as Li Xiaonan was deep in thought, the Carefree Fan abruptly closed again and appeared in his hand. He instinctively grasped it, but then the fan moved on its own, dragging Li Xiaonan toward the interior of the Trading Market.
"Damn it! People either walk their dogs or get walked by them. How come I'm the one being slapped around like this!"
"Seriously, is this little Eight-Winged Demon Lord sick? Running so fast!"
"Yeah! Not even afraid of crashing into a wall."
In the vast Trading Market, a particularly sleazy-looking Eight-Winged Demon Lord was flying around chaotically.
"Oh no! It's going to crash! Watch out! Watch out!" The Carefree Fan seemed to understand Li Xiaonan's words, spreading its fan and making a sudden stop to shield Li Xiaonan.
"Phew... So this is where you wanted to go? Fine, since I'm here, I might as well take a look."
Li Xiaonan swiftly entered a small shop tucked away in a corner, occupying barely four square meters. It was truly tiny. As he stepped inside, he accidentally stepped on a skull and quickly jumped aside.
"Greetings, esteemed sir! What would you like?" A Twin-Winged Spirit skillfully dodged the clutter on the ground and approached Li Xiaonan.
"What do you have?"
"Top-quality Demon Infants! Just arrived! They're fantastic!"
"What are Demon Infants?" Li Xiaonan was taken aback; he had only heard of Yuan Ying and wasn't sure if they were the same kind of thing.
"Sir, are you trying to test me? Demon Infants are accidental products of demon splitting, essentially Little Demons that can't advance. They're excellent materials for crafting and can be refined into Spirit Tools!"
Li Xiaonan looked at the Carefree Fan in his hand, which was continuously emitting light and seemed quite excited. It appeared that the Carefree Fan wanted this very item.
"How much?"
"Three Low-Grade Spirit Stones..."
"Mm?" Li Xiaonan exclaimed, surprised. Was it really that cheap?
"Two! Two coins!"
Flower Rubbing thought it was too cheap; how could he even negotiate with such a price?
Clearing his throat, he asked, "How many do you have?"
"Twenty-two," the Shopkeeper replied, pulling out a box. Inside lay a pitch-black infant with a sinister grin, clearly a troublemaker!
What the hell!
"Alright! I'll take them all!" Li Xiaonan waved his hand, and immediately forty-four Low-Grade Spirit Stones appeared on the table. The faint green glow made the Shopkeeper drool; he quickly stuffed all the spirit stones into his mouth and began moving the boxes one by one in front of Li Xiaonan.
Li Xiaonan waved his hand again, collecting all the Demon Infants into the Seven-Level Pagoda. He touched his Carefree Fan and muttered to himself, "Happy now? Find a time to fuse them! I heard that high-level magical treasures, like Celestial Artifacts, all have their own Spirit Tools. With your attitude, could it be that you’re becoming a Spirit Tool?"
He swiftly exited the shop, no longer interested in looking at anything else, planning to head to the castle to find Ling Kui.
"That's him! He stole our Demon Infants!"
Li Xiaonan froze as he noticed people surrounding him—more accurately, demons! Twenty-five of them, all above Twelve Wings! The one speaking was the Two-Winged Imp who had just sold him the Demon Infants.
"Sigh... Wealth should not be flaunted!" He smiled and shook his head, his gaze turning cold as he looked at the unscrupulous Two-Winged Imp.
