“Xiao Nan, where have you been these past few days? Do you know how worried we all are?” Yun Moyu exclaimed angrily, for at that moment, Li Xiaonan's eyes were only on Li Yanrong.
Li Xiaonan glanced at her with disdain and coldly replied, “Why should I explain where I go to you? Who do you think you are?”
The other girls frowned at his words. Although Li Xiaonan was not always fair to all the girls, he had always treated each of them with care. He had never spoken harshly to any of them before, yet today he seemed possessed.
Yun Moyu's eyes filled with tears, her heart heavy with grievance. She had sacrificed everything to follow him, only to be met with such a response. Angrily, she said, “Li Xiaonan, you're something else! I'm leaving! I'm leaving!” She turned to walk away but was pulled back by Ling Kui. Shaking her head, Ling Kui watched as Yun Moyu silently sobbed with her back turned to Li Xiaonan.
Li Xiaonan sneered, “Hmph! Why stop her? Let her hurry back to Fairy Island. All she does is throw tantrums or cry. Where is the gentleness of my sister?” As he mentioned Li Yanrong, a knowing smile appeared on his face.
Li Yanrong blushed at his compliment, her cheeks blooming like flowers.
“Fine! I'm leaving!” Yun Moyu said with swollen eyes, shaking off Ling Kui's hand and heading for the door.
Ling Kui frowned and said coldly, “Xiao Nan, don't you think you've gone too far? Do you know how worried Mo Yu has been during this month you’ve been missing?”
Li Xiaonan wrapped an arm around Li Yanrong’s waist, smiling broadly. But the moment he turned to look at Ling Kui, his expression turned icy.
With a smirk on the left corner of his mouth and an air of menace about him, he said, “What does it have to do with me? What right do you have to lecture me? Not quite human nor quite divine—you’re just a monster. Always so cold; get out of my sight before I get annoyed!” He then turned back to Li Yanrong, his eyes sparkling as he gently lifted her chin and pressed a kiss on her lips.
Ling Kui's expression grew even colder. If Li Xiaonan had said something else to insult her, she might have been able to endure it. But the half-dragon, half-human bloodline within her was a pain that could never be touched. Clenching her fists and biting her lip, she remained silent as she stared at Li Xiaonan. What had happened in this month that transformed him into this? Or was it that I was always seen this way in his heart?
Lu Nishang had never seen such a side of Li Xiaonan before; he radiated an aura of menace. Yet the imprint of his soul would not deceive her—she knew better than anyone that this person before her was indeed Li Xiaonan. She parted her lips slightly and murmured, “Brother Xiaonan…”
Li Xiaonan released Li Yanrong, a trace of shimmering jade silk lingering on his lips. He frowned at Lu Nishang, "What a hassle! Do you really think your pretended innocence can move me? What do you think I don't know about you? Hmph, I'll make it clear today: from now on, I only have my sister in my heart. You all can leave!"
The words that slipped from Li Xiaonan's mouth deeply struck Lu Nishang. She was not truly innocent; she had done wrong and deceived Li Xiaonan. Her heart was filled with unease as tears fell unbidden, wetting her delicate lips, salty and bitter, just like her current feelings.
Ling Kui cast a deep glance at Li Xiaonan but ultimately said nothing, pulling Lu Nishang away.
"Xiao Nan... this..." Li Yanrong furrowed her brow as she looked at Li Xiaonan before her. She could hardly believe that he claimed to love only her and had proven it through his actions.
She sighed and said, "Xiao Nan, you don't have to do this. I don't mind; it's nice for the sisters to be together."
Li Xiaonan grinned mischievously, tightening his arm around Li Yanrong's waist while lifting her chin with his other hand. "Sister, you really don't mind? Don't you want to possess me all to yourself?"
"I..." Li Yanrong broke free from Li Xiaonan's grasp, turning her face slightly away as she softly admitted, "I do..."
Li Xiaonan laughed heartily, his eyes squinting with joy as he held onto Li Yanrong tightly, intoxicated by the fragrance that surrounded her.
He took Li Yanrong's small hand and led her into the streets, pouring all his efforts into making her happy. Yet, a sense of insecurity lingered in Li Yanrong's heart; everything felt too good to be true.
What woman wouldn't wish to find a man who would love her for a lifetime? Li Yanrong was no different. As she watched one exceptional woman after another appear beside Li Xiaonan, she could only bite her lip and tell herself not to care. As long as she loved him and he held her in his heart, that was enough. But now that something more beautiful than a dream and more fragile than a bubble had occurred, she found herself surprised but devoid of any joy.
She furrowed her brow slightly, suddenly feeling that the Li Xiaonan before her was both familiar and strange.
"Sister, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Li Xiaonan reached out to touch her forehead.
Li Yanrong gently pulled his hand away and shook her head. She turned slightly but noticed a woman staggering behind them.
As she followed the direction of her gaze, Li Xiaonan couldn't help but frown. "How long are you going to follow me, you wretched woman? No matter how much I insult you, you won't leave! It's truly disgusting."
Yuan Xian'er sneered, "Oh really? Disgusting? Everything that makes you unhappy brings me joy! If you want me to stop following you, then return Li Xiaonan to me!"
Yuan Xian'er was no fool; she sensed something was off with Li Xiaonan. In her view, Li Xiaonan must have gone astray during her cultivation, leading to the emergence of an Inner Demon, which explained her seemingly split personality.
Li Yanrong unconsciously furrowed her brows tighter. She recognized this woman as the one from in front of the bamboo house. The injured figure had been trailing them for nearly three hours now, and the implications in her words—what did she mean by wanting Li Xiaonan returned?
Silently, Li Yanrong glanced at Li Xiaonan again, noticing her frowning face filled with rage. "Wretched woman, I will kill you now!"
"Hah! Go ahead and try! If he is not here, I won't live either! My life belongs to him!" Yuan Xian'er declared resolutely, though she could barely stand.
"You think I won't dare?" Li Xiaonan swung her palm towards Yuan Xian'er. Her eyes were slightly closed, a calm smile on her face as she collapsed weakly.
Li Xiaonan's hand was still raised in the air; she hadn't had the chance to strike Yuan Xian'er before Yuan Xian'er fainted from her injuries. Taking a deep breath, she pulled Li Yanrong away.
"Xiao Nan, isn't this a bit much? Shouldn't we check on her?"
"Sister, you're too kind. She's not a good person; don't worry, she won't die."
"Xian'er!" Li Xiaonan wasn't mistaken; it wasn't long after Yuan Xian'er fainted that Ling Xingyao and Ice Maiden arrived.
Ice Maiden had been fully aware of every move Li Xiaonan made. She hadn't appeared earlier because she had gone to find Mo Changqing. After reporting on Li Xiaonan's recent activities, she pretended to run into Ling Xingyao on the street and then conveniently encountered Yuan Xian'er.
Ice Maiden coldly watched the direction in which Li Xiaonan had left. The veil obscured her features, but the chilling aura emanating from her eyes sent shivers down one's spine.
As the day drew to a close, Li Xiaonan held Li Yanrong's delicate face and smiled, "Sister, are you happy today?"
Li Yanrong nodded.
Li Xiaonan pulled her into his embrace, murmuring, "I'm very happy too. I want to spend forever like this with you..." He slowly closed his eyes, the scheming thoughts fading away, replaced by a sense of tranquility.
"Yanrong!" Li Xiaonan looked at the woman in his arms, frowning. He glanced around and asked blankly, "Where are Ling Kui and the others?"
Though Li Yanrong felt a twinge of annoyance, she thought that this moment revealed the true Li Xiaonan. The man she had spent the previous day with seemed like someone who only existed in dreams.
With a smile in her eyes, she tucked a strand of hair behind his ear. "What’s wrong? Are you missing them? You were the one who sent them away yesterday."
Li Xiaonan suddenly grasped Li Yanrong's hand in shock. "What!" He took a deep breath, trying to calm his emotions. How could he have been so foolish? How could he not see through that scheming guy's intentions? No, he had to bring them all back, but...
He looked at Li Yanrong again and saw confusion in her lively almond-shaped eyes. But what could Yanrong do? Damn it! That guy must have done it on purpose!
"Yanrong, can you find them? I... I didn't mean to do it yesterday." One of the rules of their bet was that he couldn't reveal the truth, so Li Xiaonan had to hold back. He had no idea what Scheming had said to Ling Kui that made them all leave in anger.
It wasn't hard to drive Mo Yu away, but if Ling Kui was also upset... that would be a serious problem.
Li Yanrong shook her head. "I don't know where they are."
A dark cloud seemed to hang over Li Xiaonan's head as he sighed inwardly: This is bad!
He had never felt so desperate before. Looking at Li Yanrong, he noticed her smile gradually freeze and then fade away completely... He sighed again: Oh no...
Li Xiaonan looked around in confusion. "Where is this?" The furniture was made of bamboo, and in the corner stood a rattan chair.
Li Yanrong felt increasingly puzzled and frowned, saying, "Didn’t you say that this place has the feeling of Li Family Fortress, which is why you brought me back?"
"Oh." Li Xiaonan chuckled lightly, and for a moment, both were at a loss for words. Li Xiaonan sighed, feeling that some things had to be addressed. "Yanrong... I..."
"Xiao Nan... we’re back..." The door opened, and two girls entered with a soft little girl. Li Xiaonan was taken aback and instantly forgot what he wanted to say.
The newcomers were Ling Kui, Yun Moyu, and Lu Nishang.
"Xiao Nan, I’m sorry... I shouldn’t have been cold to you every day. I’ve grown accustomed to the solitude of a hundred years... I will change from now on..." Ling Kui lowered her head, her face slightly flushed, the corners of her mouth lifting into a somewhat asymmetrical smile that could barely be considered a smile.
Li Xiaonan scratched his head, unsure how to respond.
Yun Moyu added, "Xiao Nan... I also realize my mistake. I shouldn’t have been angry all the time. From now on... I will listen to you no matter what."
"Ah?" Li Xiaonan was already dumbfounded.
"And me, Brother Xiaonan... I... shouldn’t have lied to you. From now on... as long as you don’t drive me away, I’ll do whatever you ask." Lu Nishang said as well.
Heaven hasn’t abandoned me! Is this the counterattack of the sisters? They’re all back!
