Spirit Weapon glanced up at Li Xiaonan and shook his head, saying, "Late Stage of Heart Movement, a bit weak..."
Li Xiaonan felt a wave of frustration; Spirit Weapon’s gaze was all too clear, filled with disdain. Before he could explain himself, Nine Phoenix interjected angrily, "You foul dragon! Your own dragon tendons have been stripped, and yet you act so high and mighty. My master is a Celestial Lord, capable of wielding Nine Yang True Fire. The Late Stage of Heart Movement is merely a disguise! If you lack vision, don’t blame my master for being weak."
The words from Nine Phoenix eased Li Xiaonan somewhat, but no matter what, Spirit Weapon was still his father-in-law. He couldn't let such insults go unchallenged. With a cold expression, he said, "Little Jiu."
Realizing she had spoken out of turn, Nine Phoenix trembled as she repeatedly apologized to Spirit Weapon.
Spirit Weapon forced a smile. The words of Nine Phoenix struck deep at his wounds, but he was no longer the spirited Dragon Immortal of his youth. He replied calmly, "So you are Li Xiaonan? Nine Yang True Fire, have you practiced the Harmony Technique?"
Li Xiaonan nodded. He was still processing Nine Phoenix’s earlier comment about "dragon tendons being stripped." In the mythological tales, didn’t Prince Long San die after having his tendons removed by Li Nezha? It seemed that one couldn't trust mythological stories.
"Did you practice it alongside my daughter?" Spirit Weapon’s brow furrowed even tighter.
Beside them, Ling Kui felt a rush of anxiety; her father had finally mentioned her.
"Yes, Father-in-law," Li Xiaonan replied with measured respect.
"You two... sigh. Remember this: from now on, suppress your cultivation. Do not advance to the Tribulation Stage until you have reached the Separation Stage. You must reach the Celestial Stage before breaking through to the Great Ascension Period." Spirit Weapon shook his head repeatedly. In truth, he regretted leaving the Harmony Technique behind for Ling Kui ’s mother; if it weren't for that technique, she might not have died.
"Father, won't you leave here with us?" Ling Kui looked at Spirit Weapon with pleading eyes. She wanted to take the opportunity to honor this man together, but Spirit Weapon wouldn’t give her the chance.
With a faint smile and a shake of his head, he sighed, "I have had my dragon tendons stripped and my celestial status revoked. Now I am just an ordinary man with endless lifespan; I cannot help you in any way. Moreover, if I leave this place, those fellows in the celestial realm will know... It’s fine; I have grown accustomed to staying here."
"Father..." Ling Kui wanted to argue further but was pulled back by Li Xiaonan.
With a smile, he said, "Father-in-law, are you truly accustomed to life here? Can you really face the passing of Mother of the Mountain with peace?"
A hint of anger appeared on his face. He could endure anything, but he could not forgive the calamity that had befallen the Mother of Ling Kui, struck down by celestial lightning.
Li Xiaonan continued, "Father-in-law, since we have broken the immortal formation here, someone has likely already learned of it. Your decision to leave or stay no longer matters. Besides, you say you cannot help us, but I, Li Xiaonan, can help you. You are my father-in-law, and Ling Kui is my wife. Just because you lack the ability to avenge the Mother of the Mountain does not mean I cannot." Li Xiaonan narrowed his eyes and smiled at Spirit Weapon.
Spirit Weapon gazed back at Li Xiaonan with indifference. He did not understand where Li Xiaonan's confidence came from; perhaps it was merely a form of comfort. However, Li Xiaonan was right—the formation had been broken, and it no longer mattered whether he stayed or left. After all, he had been here for a hundred years. He glanced at the white hair on his chest; the hatred that turned his hair white overnight could not be erased by a century's passage.
He sighed, stood up from the stone bed, walked over to Li Xiaonan's side, and patted his shoulder. "You brat, very good! With Ling Kui by your side, I feel at ease."
Li Xiaonan grinned foolishly at Ling Kui, who smiled back at him as they all exited Kou Long Cave.
Spirit Weapon looked up at the floating white clouds in the sky; the sunlight was scorching and blinding. He couldn't help but shield his forehead with his hand. Taking a long breath, he finally relaxed his furrowed brow and smiled at Ling Kui and Li Xiaonan.
For over a hundred years, he had not stepped out of Kou Long Cave. His celestial roots were destroyed, making cultivation impossible. Yet he still hoped to see his daughter one day. He hesitated to leave Kou Long Cave for fear that those from the celestial realm would reach for Ling Kui. Although she had a powerful master, there was no guarantee she would remain unscathed.
Li Xiaonan smiled as he looked at Ling Kui and Spirit Weapon, feeling that he had done something a man should do. Suddenly, a tearing pain surged through his chest. "Pfft!" Crimson blood spewed from his mouth and fell onto the yellow earth below—a sight that was truly shocking.
"Xiao Nan!" Ling Kui exclaimed in alarm as she rushed to support Li Xiaonan's faltering body. Grabbing his wrist to check his condition, her heart sank—Li Xiaonan's meridians were completely severed!
"Father!" Seeing this, Spirit Weapon also examined Li Xiaonan's body. The brow he had just relaxed furrowed again as he coldly said, "Did you force a cultivation woman to become your Obedient Dragon II and break through to the Nine Yang Stage?"
Ling Kui was taken aback as well; she had guessed why Li Xiaonan suddenly spat blood and why his meridians were shattered—it was all for her sake and for forcibly breaking through.
Li Xiaonan nodded with a smile. Ever since Yun Moyu uttered those words "a fate worse than death," he had sensed changes in his body. The True Essence Power that once flowed gently through his meridians now surged like raging waves crashing against them. For three days now, his meridians had nearly been destroyed.
Tears rolled down Ling Kui's cheeks—each one crystal clear and beautiful in the sunlight. Li Xiaonan wanted to reach out to wipe away her tears but found himself utterly powerless. He softly said, "Silly girl, why are you crying? Your husband isn't crying; don't be afraid—your father-in-law is here, right?" He smiled at Spirit Weapon.
Spirit Weapon retorted angrily, "Hmph! You brought this upon yourself! Just wait for death! I thought Ling Kui had found a good husband; I never expected you would force a woman into becoming your Obedient Dragon II!"
Li Xiaonan did not explain; he was exhausted and desperately wanted to sleep. Ling Kui's chest felt soft, like the white clouds in the sky.
“Father, it’s not like that. Xiao Nan is suffering because of me… Please, save him…” At that moment, Ling Kui haltingly conveyed the situation to everyone.
Medicine Spirit Baby nuzzled against Li Xiaonan's neck, sobbing, “Master is so great! Master, please don’t die! I just found a good master; don’t leave me behind!” Li Xiaonan could only smile, unable to say anything more.
Nine Phoenix was anxiously pacing nearby. “Damn… Spirit Weapon, is there no hope for the master?” After asking, Nine Phoenix suddenly felt strange; if Li Xiaonan died, wouldn’t he be free? Why was he worried about Li Xiaonan? He furrowed his brow as he looked at Li Xiaonan's pale face and decided not to dwell on it further.
Spirit Weapon shook his head and sighed. “Alas… The Harmony Technique emphasizes yin and yang. Mutual affection between men and women is naturally harmonious. Forcing Obedient Dragon II is a grave taboo. I cannot save him. The only way now is to find that woman. If we can gain her forgiveness, she might reverse Xiao Nan’s Meridian and bring him back to life; otherwise…”
Ling Kui nodded and said to Nine Phoenix, “Little Jiu, take us to Fairy Island.” She leaned close to Li Xiaonan’s ear and whispered, “Is it Yun Moyu?”
Li Xiaonan nodded with great difficulty and finally succumbed to sleep in Ling Kui's embrace.
Spirit Weapon frowned. “The woman he forced is from Fairy Island? I have some connections with Yun Yiluo from Fairy Island, but matters of love… alas… we can only rely on this young man’s fate.”
Li Xiaonan could only hear the wind whistling past his ears and felt a chill creeping over him. Since his cultivation began, he hadn’t felt hot or cold. He opened his eyes to find himself still in Ling Kui's arms; her familiar delicate face remained as cold as ice, though two streaks of tears added a touch of sorrow.
“Xiao Nan, you’re awake! You should sleep a bit longer; we’ll soon arrive at Fairy Island.” Li Xiaonan nodded and glanced at Spirit Weapon behind Ling Kui. Taking advantage of Ling Kui ’s focus on their journey, he silently mouthed, “How many days?”
Spirit Weapon understood his meaning and held up seven fingers. Li Xiaonan managed a bitter smile as he awkwardly gestured ten and four with the hand hanging behind Ling Kui. Spirit Weapon nodded in response.
Though the two men had known each other for only a short time, they shared a deep understanding.
Li Xiaonan gazed at the icy, churning sea beneath Nine Phoenix and felt an overwhelming sense of emotion. Inner Thoughts: Seven days left to live; will Yun Moyu forgive me? Even if she does forgive me, it’s impossible for us to be together again. In this world, debts must be repaid; I owe that girl my life. But what will happen to Ling Kui after I’m gone? Right, Ling Kui still has her father and Dog Egg; she shouldn’t be too lonely.
With these thoughts swirling in his mind, he drifted off into a deep slumber once more.
The waves were whipped up by the wind, one higher than the last. Nine Phoenix felt a deep sense of frustration and let out a mournful cry. His mind was filled with Li Xiaonan's gentle smile, and he thought to himself: He wasn't a bad person; he treated himself well. Why do good people always have such short lives?
He quickened his pace and flew toward Fairy Island, where the ethereal sounds of the celestial realm beckoned. The Emei Sect lay just ahead!
Medicine Spirit Baby perched on Li Xiaonan's shoulder, her Herb Flower flickering above her head. She was blowing her Medicine Spirit energy into Li Xiaonan, trying to sustain his life. Although she knew it might not help, she still shook her little red flower with all her might.
The Spirit Weapon silently observed everything. How could someone who earned the recognition of a Ninth-Order Spirit Beast and Spirit Ginseng be a bad person? It hoped that Li Xiaonan would survive; only by living could he perhaps take revenge.
In the Celestial Palaces of the celestial realm, a man knelt in submission and said, "Azure Emperor, the Five Elements Formation has been broken; the Spirit Weapon has escaped."
A man dressed in blue leaned against a jade couch, seemingly merging with it. He smiled and said, "Oh? Good. After waiting for a hundred years, he finally couldn't hold back. The Harmony Technique should return to the world now. Send someone to keep a close watch on him."
The kneeling man nodded and exited the loft.
A chilling laughter echoed from within the loft.
Above Fairy Island in the Qinhuang Islands, Nine Phoenix circled once before diving directly into the garden of Fairy Island. The Ninth-Order Spirit Beast was an extraordinary being; the barriers surrounding Fairy Island were as nothing to him.
He landed softly and steadily, careful not to wake the person on his back.
Yun Moyu was inside, staring blankly at herself in the mirror. It had been several days since Li Xiaonan left, and she couldn't shake off her unease. Perilla burst through the door, exclaiming, "Mo Yu! What are you still doing here? Something big has happened at Fairy Island! Li Xiaonan is back!"
Yun Moyu dropped the jade comb in her hand, shattering it into two pieces. She gasped, "What?"
