"I..."
"Are you going or not?"
"I'm not going."
"Fine." Ma Gui Fang nodded. "Remember, if we lose this client, it's on you."
"The loss will be deducted from your salary."
"No, no, no." I quickly pleaded, "I'll go, is that okay?"
Ma Gui Fang huffed, "You should have agreed sooner."
I grimaced and said, "Manager Ma, I want to agree, but my wife..."
"Figure it out with your wife."
"What are you still standing there for? Hurry up and go!"
I left her office in defeat.
At the upscale seafood restaurant, Ma Gui Fang kept piling delicious food onto my plate. I felt that she was acting unusually today. However, I didn't say anything. After all, she was being nice to me, and I had nothing to lose.
Just as we were enjoying our meal, Ma Gui Fang suddenly stopped serving food. Her gaze turned toward the window. Curiously following her line of sight, I saw a boy standing in front of Bao Lan. Bao Lan raised her hand and slapped him across the face. The boy covered his face and then squatted down to tie his shoelaces.
My mind buzzed, and the chopsticks in my hand fell to the floor.
"Wei Yiming," Ma Gui Fang grasped my hand. "You need to stay rational."
"I..."
"Calm down."
"I know."
"What do you know?"
"I don't know anything."
I shook off Ma Gui Fang's hand and stormed out.
When I got home, I slammed the door, startling Bao Lan, who let out a small scream.
She walked over, touching her chest and said, "What are you doing? You scared me to death."
"You..."
I pointed at her nose, too angry to speak.
"What about me?" Bao Lan rolled her eyes. "Did you take the wrong medicine?"
"What were you doing just now?"
"Nothing much."
"Nothing much?" I scoffed. "If it was nothing, then why was there a guy squatting at your feet?"
"Oh, that guy," Bao Lan said with a smile. "That's my younger brother."
"Your brother?"
"Yes."
"When did you get a brother?"
"I’ve always had a brother."
"Why have I never heard you mention him before?"
"You never asked me."
I stared at her face, trying to discern whether she was telling the truth or lying. But her expression remained calm.
I snorted. "Bao Lan, we just got married, and you're already playing mind games with me?"
"Mind games? Me?" Bao Lan widened her eyes. "What mind games am I playing?"
"You know very well what I'm talking about."
"I don't know."
"If you don't know, then forget it."
"You..." Bao Lan pointed at my nose. "What do you mean by that?"
"I mean nothing."
"Do you not trust me?"
"I trust you."
"Then why are you saying all this?"
"Because I believe in your lies."
"You..."
"Enough." I waved my hand. "I'm tired; I'm going to sleep."
"Stop right there." Baolan stood in front of me. "Wei Yiming, you need to clarify things."
"Clarify what?"
"Why do you doubt me?"
"I don't doubt you."
"If you don't doubt me, then why are you so angry?"
"I'm angry because you don't trust me."
"How do I not trust you?"
"You didn't tell me you have a brother."
"I..." Baolan sighed. "Wei Yiming, can you be reasonable? I have a brother, but you never asked me."
"You didn't tell me you have a brother."
"You didn't ask me; why should I tell you?"
"Enough." Baolan pushed me slightly. "Wei Yiming, can you stop being unreasonable?"
"I'm being unreasonable?" I widened my eyes. "Baolan, are you kidding me? You're the one playing mind games and calling me unreasonable?"
Baolan shook her head. "Wei Yiming, I'm telling you, I'm not lying. It's your own suspicion that's too heavy."
