On set.
I never expected that Shen Kun would come in person. He is the big boss; why would he come to a place like this?
Everyone felt a bit tense upon seeing Shen Kun, as they all knew he wasn't easy to get along with.
"Miaoke, look what delicious food I brought you!" I waved the food box in front of Lin Miaoke.
"Lotus root slices!" Lin Miaoke's eyes lit up.
"No way, you can't eat these." Her manager shot her a glance, causing her to immediately lose her enthusiasm.
"Oh come on, just this once. It won't hurt!"
"No way, absolutely not!"
The manager snatched the food box from me and handed it back.
"Director Fang, thank you for your kindness, but we can't eat."
I nodded, understanding their intentions.
"Alright, then I'll close it up for now. After your shoot is done, if there's still time, I'll give it to you."
As I was about to cover the food box, Shen Kun suddenly snatched it away.
"Hey..."
I looked up and only saw his tall figure from behind.
"What’s going on?"
Lin Miaoke and I exchanged glances.
This guy is so childish! Like a little kid!
A few hours later, after Lin Miaoke finished shooting, the sky suddenly opened up with a downpour.
With no other options, everyone had to run to the service station in the scenic area and take shelter under the eaves from the rain.
I leaned against the railing, watching the droplets fall from the eaves and the bubbling puddles below. Shen Kun walked over, his voice low.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have maliciously speculated about you."
"It's fine," I replied lightly.
In truth, I didn't care. Our relationship had always been just for fun. He lit one cigarette after another, and I couldn't help but advise him.
"Smoke less; it's bad for your health."
He paused for a moment before extinguishing the cigarette.
"Alright, I'll listen to you."
I was taken aback and turned to look at him. He was staring at me, his gaze intense.
"Miao Miao, will you accept Ma Yue's confession?"
"How do you know..." I started to say, but then I froze. I hadn't told anyone about this; how did Shen Kun find out? Had he been investigating me?
Suddenly, Shen Kun moved closer and pressed me against the pillar.
"Miao Miao, we..."
He leaned in and kissed me. The kiss was anything but gentle. A whirlwind of emotions surged within me. On one hand, I craved this kiss; on the other hand, those unpleasant memories flooded back into my mind once more.
I was scared.
I wanted to escape.
I pushed him away with all my strength and awkwardly ran back to my room.
After the filming of the advertisement ended, I didn't see Shen Kun again until the project was over.
At the press conference, he stood at a distance, watching me from afar.
His gaze was cold and filled with disappointment.
I lowered my head, avoiding his eyes.
Ma Yue had been persistently pursuing me, but I found myself increasingly unable to bear his kindness.
I arranged to meet him and sincerely apologized.
"I'm sorry, senior, I... can't accept your feelings."
"Is it because of Shen Kun?"
I was taken aback for a moment and didn't answer.
I thought, maybe yes and maybe no.
Between Shen Kun and me, there ultimately was no chance.
Because of the Shen Kun Company project, I received an opportunity for a promotion and transfer.
I went to B City, changed my phone number, and cut off contact with both Shen Kun and Ma Yue.
At the end of December, I returned for a meeting, staying briefly for a week.
A colleague told me that a client's message had mistakenly been sent to my old phone number and asked me to check it again.
I turned on my phone and received a text message.
It was from an unfamiliar number.
"Happy Birthday, Fang Miaomiao."
The timestamp was from four years ago.
My mind went blank, and everything became chaotic.
How could this happen?
Who sent me this text message?
I held my phone and dialed the unfamiliar number.
But the other party hung up immediately and turned off their phone.
Sitting at the table, I hesitated for a long time before finally picking up my phone and sending a message.
“Shen Kun, this is Fang Miaomiao. I want to see you, is that okay?”
“I want to confirm something with you.”
“Tonight at eight o'clock, at the south gate of Youth Square. Don't be late.”
At seven-thirty in the evening, I arrived at the agreed location, ordered a cup of coffee, and waited quietly.
But I waited until midnight, and Shen Kun still hadn't come.
I sighed and stood up, preparing to leave.
Today was New Year's Eve, and the square was bustling with people, all waiting for midnight to arrive.
I wandered aimlessly through the crowd.
Suddenly, there was a commotion ahead.
The New Year's parade had begun.
Everyone was celebrating, reveling in the arrival of the new year.
I was also swept up in the festive atmosphere, temporarily forgetting my worries.
But then, a child dashed out from the crowd and pushed a performing “clown.”
The “clown” lost balance and dropped the torch he was holding.
I instinctively took a step back, but the crowd behind me surged forward suddenly.
I couldn't dodge in time and got bumped into.
As I watched the torch fall toward me, fear made me freeze in place.
But in the next moment, a hand wrapped around me protectively.
I looked up to see a familiar profile.
