"Your Majesty, you have betrayed me..." Jiang Yao cried, "You promised to be with me for a lifetime, and you said that because I bore you the Crown Prince, you would love and respect me forever..."
"Hmph." The Southern King scoffed, "Northern Kingdom Ruler, there are ways to save the Crown Prince."
The Emperor paused for a moment, then quickly caught on.
"Southern King, what do you mean?" he asked tentatively. "Do you have a way to save the Crown Prince?"
"Of course," the Southern King replied with a smile.
"What is it?!" The Emperor's face was filled with urgency.
"Your Majesty, to save the Crown Prince, he is the Divine Child!" Jiang Yao shouted. "He is your only son and the one who will inherit the throne!"
"Shut up!" The Emperor kicked Jiang Yao in the chest.
Jiang Yao fell to the ground.
"Southern King, what must I do for you to save the Crown Prince?" the Emperor asked.
"Let me think," the Southern King said with a grin.
The Emperor clenched his fists and took a deep breath.
"To save the Crown Prince, you must show sincerity," the Southern King raised an eyebrow.
"What do you want?!" The Emperor gritted his teeth.
"Exchange it for your most precious possession," the Southern King replied with a smile.
"My most precious possession..." The Emperor pondered.
"I have limited patience," the Southern King said calmly, "and besides, the Crown Prince can hardly hold on much longer."
He glanced at the Crown Prince.
The sight was grim; the Crown Prince looked as if he had aged beyond recognition, resembling a mere husk of a corpse.
"This..." The Emperor turned to me.
I lowered my head, concealing my expression from view.
"Your Majesty, you wouldn't really part with her, would you?" the Southern King taunted. "It seems your only son is not as important as a beauty."
"Who says that?!" The Emperor was provoked. "I'll give her to you!"
"Your Majesty..." I looked up, my eyes brimming with tears. "Please don't..."
"Shut up!" The Emperor kicked out.
I was struck in the chest and fell to the ground. A glimmer of darkness flashed in my eyes. It seemed the Southern King was helping me.
The Emperor grabbed me from the ground and pushed me in front of the Southern King, promising that if he cured the Crown Prince, he would give me to him.
Seeing this, the Southern King took the Crown Prince into the inner hall. The Emperor left Jiang Yao behind and took me back to his chamber.
His expression was grave as he suddenly spoke. "Someone, pull out Consort Yu's nails!"
"Your Majesty, please spare me!" I knelt down.
"Your Majesty," Consort Qi interjected with a hint of malice in her eyes, "pulling out nails is so dull; why not cut her hair instead?" She remembered that my hair was what I cared about most.
"Alright," the Emperor nodded. "Then let's cut her hair."
"Your Majesty..." I protected my hair. "I dare not disobey your command, but I will certainly preserve my purity for Your Majesty."
"Hah." The Emperor scoffed. "Purity? What purity can there be after going to the Southern Kingdom?"
"Your Majesty, do not forget that my mother hails from Miaojiang," I replied. "She is a saintess with many skills."
"Are you teaching me how to do things?!" The Emperor roared in anger.
"I would never," I lowered my head.
"Your Majesty, please calm down," Consort Qi soothed the Emperor. "Consort Yu simply doesn't know her place; there's no need to be angry."
"Hmph!" The Emperor snorted coldly. "Lin Yu, if you don't obey, neither your mother nor your uncle will survive!"
"Your Majesty..." I collapsed to the ground. "Please, don't..."
"No matter what methods you use, you must not bear a child for the Southern King!" the Emperor commanded.
"I..." I hesitated for a moment before finally lowering my head. "I promise."
"See? That's all I wanted to hear." The Emperor smiled with satisfaction. "According to our previous agreement, you will go to the Southern Kingdom, and he will ensure the Crown Prince grows up safely. Remember your promise!"
I bowed my head, hiding the hatred in my eyes.
