I wandered around the venue for a couple of laps, but I still hadn't spotted Bu Shang. Perhaps he hadn't arrived yet? The best course of action now was to wait patiently.
I noticed that the Guest Area seemed to have only a few people, so I found a corner close to it and sat down, preparing to wait there.
After sitting for a while, I was asked to change seats several times. Fortunately, I was wearing staff attire, so it wasn't too embarrassing. I moved to another spot and continued waiting.
Just then, my phone vibrated. It was likely Ah Huang calling! I quickly took it out and confirmed it was him!
"Old Wang, have you arrived?"
"I’m here, right next to the Guest Area. There are quite a few people now, and I haven't seen Bu Shang yet. I'm planning to follow him when he goes to get the knife."
"We haven't spotted anything down here either. Just keep monitoring. I'm in the control room; we can contact each other anytime," Ah Huang replied.
At that moment, a few people walked over, glancing at the tickets in their hands. It seemed I would have to move again, so I quickly stood up and looked for another spot.
These newcomers settled into the area where I had just been. One of them sat down and exclaimed, "Wow, have they really plastered ads all over the place?!"
Everyone looked up at his words, and indeed, the entire ceiling was covered in advertisements—some for cars, others for cosmetics. Upon closer inspection, I noticed many steel frames overhead; those ad panels could be secured to them. This setup not only reflected the stage lights to brighten the area below but also concealed the empty space above that looked unappealing.
No wonder this entertainment network is so successful! I thought to myself when suddenly my gaze fixed on one particular advertisement. "Hey, isn't that an ad for Heavenly Hall?"
Isn't Bu Shang here to invest in this mall? A thought sparked in my mind; I felt like I was on the verge of realizing something important but still needed that last piece.
I stared at the advertisement for a while when suddenly my phone vibrated again. I quickly opened it: "Bu Shang has brought his assistant up! I'm following him!"
The phone call from Ah Huang finally came through. I hung up and found a high spot near the elevator, standing there waiting for them to emerge.
After a while, the elevator doors opened, and a group of people poured out.
Bu Shang and his assistant were among them. Surprisingly, Bu Shang was dressed quite casually in sportswear, wearing a hat pulled low over his face, seemingly not wanting to be recognized.
I kept my eyes fixed on Bu Shang, afraid to miss any moment. I watched as they headed straight for the Guest Area, taking seats in the two spots at the back near the outer edge.
The two of them were engaged in conversation, appearing quite happy as laughter erupted from time to time. "Japan really knows how to put on a cheerful show," I muttered to myself, shifting to another high spot closer to the Guest Area as I waited for Bu Shang's next move.
As more and more people arrived, the atmosphere grew increasingly lively. Finally, when the clock struck eight, the art festival commenced. With the opening music and dance underway, three hosts appeared on stage—those popular hosts everyone knew!
However, my focus was not on the festival's opening ceremony; I was solely watching Bu Shang. He seemed relaxed, comfortably enjoying the program while occasionally chatting with his assistant and translator.
Time passed quickly as I kept my gaze on Bu Shang for nearly two hours. Thankfully, I had prepared well; I had gone to the restroom upon arrival, or I would have been in trouble!
Around ten o'clock, the big-name stars invited to the festival began to make their appearances one by one. The atmosphere in the venue started to heat up, and it became noisy around me. At that moment, I saw Bu Shang stand up—he was about to make a move!
I couldn't afford to be careless; I fixed my gaze on him as he slowly parted the crowd and walked toward the aisle leading down from the stands. I quickly maintained parallel movement and followed him.
Bu Shang gradually made his way through the crowd, descended from the stands, and turned onto a walkway behind them. I quietly squeezed through and stood not far from him, observing closely.
He glanced around before slowly walking toward a door beside the stage. I hurriedly followed him. When Bu Shang reached the door, he looked around intentionally or unintentionally before pulling it open and slipping inside.
I hurried a few steps and arrived at the door, where I saw the words “Scenic Platform.” What does that mean?
I gently pushed the door open and quickly glanced inside. It seemed empty. I opened the door halfway and slipped inside. It was a small, simple room, essentially an area enclosed by plywood, without a ceiling. Inside, there were large advertising posters piled up, and a spiral staircase leading upwards.
I looked up and saw that the spiral staircase connected to the steel frame structure above. So, this was how the staff accessed the advertisements.
I noticed that the figure on the cloth was nearing the Steel Frame Platform. So that’s how it is! The knife was hidden here! No one would have expected that. However, it seemed that the figure could only retrieve the knife tonight. After thinking for a moment, I quickly climbed up the spiral staircase.
Should I call Ah Huang? I pondered as I ascended. The figure's speed on the cloth had noticeably slowed down, and he was becoming clearer. I saw him almost reaching the Steel Frame Platform. Just then, I noticed he looked down at me for a moment, gripping the steel frame above, and with a forceful motion, he lightly flipped over.
He noticed me?! Was he trying to lure me? I made a call; what if he went up to check the advertisement board without any reason? This was a show of force and challenge from him. After a brief thought, I decided to take another risk! I knew that if I didn’t call for help and went up alone, he would definitely retrieve that knife and try to kill me.
It’s possible that he and his assistant had already arranged everything. If I alerted the police, they would follow me up, and his assistant would surely find a way to inform him not to take the knife. We would still be at a disadvantage. But if I didn’t notify anyone and ended up being killed here, no one would know.
This timing was truly difficult to grasp! Should I call Ah Huang and tell them to come up in ten minutes? A lot could happen in ten minutes!
With no other choice, I decided to gamble once more! After making up my mind, I climbed quickly upwards. As I neared the Steel Frame Platform, I glanced down; it was at least thirty meters high. My head spun slightly, so I quickly pulled my gaze back and forced myself to steady my nerves.
That’s right; aside from not being able to swim, I also had acrophobia. Every time I stood next to a tall building, I felt an impulse to jump!
Taking a deep breath, I grasped both handrails at the entrance of the Steel Frame Platform. With a strong push, my foot landed on a protruding step, and I stepped onto the Steel Frame Platform.
Once up there, I realized that the Steel Frame Platform was quite large. It covered the stage, seating area, and part of the Backstage. It resembled a corridor with pathways leading in various directions, ultimately connecting to several spiral staircases welded onto the walls. It looked sturdy enough, with half-height railings on both sides of the walkway. The surroundings were well-lit as well.
I stepped onto the walkway, peering to both sides. Thankfully, all I saw were advertisement boards, and I couldn't see what was happening below. This reassured me greatly.
I steadied my nerves and looked ahead, noticing that the figure on the fabric had already moved to an area near the wall on my right. That was precisely where their company's advertisements were displayed!
I hurried in that direction, knowing that this confrontation would undoubtedly be more perilous than the last. As I moved, I drew out my Nunchaku from behind and began assembling my Refined Steel Rod while running.
At this moment, the figure on the fabric had stopped moving, bending down beneath the steel plate and seemingly doing something. From what I could tell, he must have wedged his Bloodless Slash between the steel plate and the advertisement board. Damn it, that Japanese Kid! I really couldn't understand how he managed to sneak up last night, hide his knife, and slip away unnoticed.
By now, my Long Staff was fully assembled. I tightened my grip on the staff with my right hand and slowed my pace as I approached the figure on the fabric.
He had also drawn his knife and turned to face me. "Wang Sang, you dare to come alone? I must say, I admire your courage!"
I chuckled lightly. "You Japanese are truly hypocritical. Last night you wanted to kill me so badly, and now you admire me?"
His expression turned serious. "Wang Sang! You know too much! Killing you is a certainty! However, you are one of the finest soldiers I've ever encountered, and I respect you! Those two sentiments are not contradictory!"
(To be continued; tomorrow will be even more exciting!)
