I could no longer pay attention to He Baisha and hurriedly followed with my gun drawn. I saw a person and a beast tumble to the ground, crashing through a large area of bushes and grass. I was very worried about Xuanhua; the closer this large predator got, the more dangerous it became. Its claws were not something a human could withstand, so I quickly kept pace.
Under the beam of the flashlight, I saw the monster pinning Xuanhua down, arching its body as its hind legs pushed against the ground, trying to bite down on Xuanhua. However, Xuanhua desperately used the gun to block its neck and front paws, curling his legs up against the monster’s belly. This was definitely a smart move; otherwise, the monster's hind legs would have crushed Xuanhua's lower body.
Seizing the opportunity, I lunged at the monster's back with all my strength! To my surprise, the creature was quite agile. Just as I was about to stab it, it suddenly abandoned Xuanhua, rolled to the left away from him, and quickly stood up, growling at me.
Garfield quickly positioned himself to my left, and Xuanhua also got back on his feet. Thus, we formed an inverted triangle facing the beast. After several rounds of confrontation, we relied on our numbers while the monster relied on its strength and speed; it was a stalemate. My mind raced as I thought of a plan while the monster crouched low, growling as it prepared for its next attack. The standoff continued between the three of us and one beast.
No one expected that He Baisha would be the one to break this deadlock.
He Baisha charged through us like a madman. As he passed by me, I heard him muttering something incomprehensible. I shouted, "He Baisha, come back!" but received no response. He Baisha was like a moth drawn to a flame, determinedly rushing toward the monster. We were terrified and rushed to stop him; going in unarmed could lead to disaster.
The monster seemed taken aback by someone charging at it. It hesitated for a moment and did not attack. At that moment, He Baisha was less than a meter away from the beast. I only saw He Baisha facing away from us as he shouted something that sounded like "Charge!" followed by "Quickly! Come chop this bastard down!"
We quickly rushed to his side. When I looked over, I was stunned; for some reason, the monster had not attacked but lay on the ground trembling as if struggling against some unseen restraint. It began to roar wildly, its two eyes glowing like red lanterns with madness and despair…
Garfield silently lunged forward first, followed by Xuanhua. I then plunged my bayonet into the monster's belly repeatedly—stabbed in, pulled out, stabbed again, pulled out…
At first, it shook violently; then it lay still on the ground, gradually becoming silent. I kicked it a few times to confirm it was truly motionless before letting out a sigh of relief. Xuanhua and Garfield were still checking on the monster's condition with their bayonets when I turned back to He Baisha and said, "What were you doing? You started off so timid but then went all out?"
He Baisha sat down heavily on the ground, breathless and saying nothing.
After a while, Garfield and Xuanhua stopped their checks and asked me what we should do next. I asked them, "Are we sure it's dead?" They both nodded in agreement.
I thought for a moment, "Go back and report to the Company Commander, find someone to carry it and the wild boar back. This is a significant discovery!"
Garfield asked, "Should we leave someone behind?" I glanced at He Baisha. Clearly, in a place where such a creature had been, it wasn't safe to leave anyone behind. Since it was already dead, I decided against leaving anyone.
"Let's head back together!" I waved my hand and helped He Baisha up. We all slowly made our way back to the Base.
After reporting to the Company Commander, he was equally astonished and personally brought several squad leaders with us to see the scene. However, upon arrival, aside from the long-dead wild boar and the mess left from the struggle, there was nothing else—where was the monster? The Company Commander asked me, and I found myself questioning the same thing: where was the monster?? It had clearly been dead! I felt bewildered as I saw that Xuanhua and Garfield were just as confused.
On the ground where the monster had last lain, we discovered numerous bloodstains. Following the trail of spilled blood, we ventured into the dense forest for several dozen meters until the blood gradually disappeared. There was no trace of the monster!
The Company Commander exclaimed in confusion. After a brief search yielded no results, A Squad had no choice but to carry the wild boar back. Later, while preparing the wild boar, Garfield discovered that it had very little blood left inside; there were deep bite marks on its right neck, indicating that most of its blood had likely been drained by the creature.
A bloodsucking beast? I was puzzled—was it really dead or just playing dead? If it was feigning death after taking dozens of blows and bleeding out completely, I thought its chances of survival were slim. Garfield and Xuanhua insisted they had checked thoroughly; there were indeed no signs of life in the monster! Could it be dead yet somehow revived? This thought sent a chill down my spine! I would rather believe that another monster had come to take it away! However, what confused me even more was He Baisha's behavior. Did He Baisha manage to subdue the monster in the end? What method did he use? Yet He Baisha refused to say anything other than some traditional methods passed down in his family for dealing with ferocious beasts. I knew his family background was quite mysterious, but I didn't expect him to have so many extraordinary things about him. However, as Drill was coming to an end and the troops began packing their gear and luggage, things became busy again. I couldn't focus all my thoughts on this mystery; there was nothing more I could do about it.
Nevertheless, this fierce creature that fed on fresh blood and possessed immense combat power left a deep impression on me. Later on, I researched extensively and found that similar animals existed around the world. Below are some reference materials:
Puerto Rico is located at the southernmost tip of the Bermuda Triangle. For decades, people in Puerto Rico have been haunted by a mysterious bloodsucking phantom. In 1994, this terrifying ghost first appeared in Canoavana, Puerto Rico. It emerged at night to attack livestock; initially, only a few sheep were found dead, but soon it escalated into what seemed like a planned massacre. People would wake up one morning to find goat or sheep carcasses scattered around their cottages and markets; all had wounds on their necks with their blood drained completely, arranged neatly without any signs of struggle. Within five months, over 150 livestock within a 48-kilometer radius had fallen victim. By 1996, the total number of livestock deaths reached 1,000.
At first, people suspected wild dogs and rhesus monkeys were responsible for the chaos, but investigations revealed they were not involved. Later, Puerto Rican media released new suspects: Bloodsucking Beasts, shocking everyone.
An investigative team arrived in Canoavana—a place already shrouded in mystery—and immediately found that fear gripped its residents. People were terrified and hid indoors, afraid to venture outside. As attacks escalated, residents had no choice but to overcome their fears; every night over a hundred people entered the tropical rainforest searching for this unknown killer. Yet the killer remained elusive while the slaughter continued.
Subsequently, these killing incidents rapidly spread to Florida in the United States, Chile, and Nicaragua. In March 1996, the creature attacked Miami in Florida for the first time within U.S. territory. The official explanation attributed it to stray dogs. People were skeptical and called upon naturalist Sanchez Osio to investigate this matter.
At the investigation site, it was discovered that the killer's methods exceeded the realm of ordinary explanation. The difficulty of hunting indicated that it was not the work of stray dogs, and every victimized animal had puncture wounds that stray dogs could not inflict.
Soon, Vampire Creatures landed in Nicaragua, where farmers George Rupi and his neighbors in Malpajillo Town, just seven kilometers from Managua, lost over a hundred livestock within a month. The Vampire Beasts charged into the sheepfold from outside the fence, attacking the flock and dragging them away.
Rupi had witnessed a Vampire Beast firsthand. One night around ten o'clock, as he was pulling the curtains to go to sleep, he suddenly saw four creatures about a meter tall jumping around the livestock pen in his yard. Rupi rushed outside, but the creatures quickly fled. He fired his gun and hit one, but it did not stop. Rupi chased it for fifty meters, firing seven shots in total, yet it still escaped.
A short while later, Rupi noticed vultures circling around a corpse in a nearby field. Although the body had been nearly devoured by the vultures, he could still see two massive canine teeth on both the upper and lower jaws, ears resembling those of bats, and an unusual body shape with strange eyes. Rupi believed this was the Vampire Beast he had shot at.
For now, let’s refer to this creature as the Vampire Beast. Does such a thing truly exist? You can make your own judgment!
As for whether the Vampire Beast is dead or not, several years later in 2006, I suddenly came across a newspaper article that read: "Mysterious carnivorous beast attacks villagers' dogs in Guangxi Beiliu Mountain Area!"
