Even if I can't completely ruin Tong Ming's reputation, I can still annoy him. After all, I can't let this guy have it easy! Satisfied, I closed the forum and went back to work. By the time I finished, it was almost eight o'clock. Lin Mingyuan was still working overtime, so I decided to head home first.
Just as I was about to call a taxi, a brand-new Maserati pulled up in front of me. The window rolled down, revealing Tong Ming's smug face.
"Qianqian, what do you think?" he asked. "Just bought it, isn't it beautiful?"
I couldn't help but roll my eyes. "Is this it?"
"Pfft, country bumpkin," he scoffed.
I sneered at him. "If you're so capable, why don't you buy one yourself?"
Tong Ming wasn't offended by my retort; instead, he looked even more pleased with himself. "It's just money, I've got plenty."
"And you? You finally managed to get two hundred thousand from me; you'd better spend it wisely. Otherwise, you'll be living on air next month."
I felt like my eyes were going to roll into the back of my head. How could this guy be so shameless? I was too lazy to engage with him further and turned to leave.
After taking a couple of steps, I suddenly remembered something and turned back to Tong Ming. "By the way, the company is going to conduct a surprise inspection of the warehouse soon. Be prepared."
"Huh?" Tong Ming looked stunned. "Surprise inspection? When?"
"Next Wednesday." I looked at him with a knowing smile. "So be ready."
The weekend approached.
I learned that Tong Ming and my university friend officially announced their relationship. I raised an eyebrow. I didn't expect Tong Ming to actually be with Cao Yuan. Cao Yuan is a friend from our university. She liked Tong Ming, and we all knew it. At one point, Cao Yuan even confessed her feelings to Tong Ming, but he rejected her. Tong Ming clearly stated that he would not choose Cao Yuan. But look how little time has passed, and he has gone back on his word.
I thought for a moment and began to understand why Tong Ming was doing this. It seemed he was in trouble. Cao Yuan is the daughter of a Material Merchant; her family has some money. Tong Ming must have realized that he was about to face significant legal issues, so he hurriedly found himself a backup plan. When the time comes and he can't come up with the money, he'll have to rely on Cao Yuan to cover for him. He certainly can't end up in jail, right?
Of course, this is just my speculation. However, if Tong Ming wants to establish himself in high society, he can't do it without money. Cao Yuan just happens to fit that need perfectly. All of this hinges on whether he can successfully navigate the warehouse inspection coming up. If he manages to pull it off, Tong Ming will likely try to swap things out again. After all, with such a big hole to fill, he has to find a way.
I squinted, calculating my next move. What if... on the day of the inspection, I had my assistant create a bit more of a commotion? Just thinking about Tong Ming's smug expression made me angry. I decided that I had to teach him a lesson!
Soon enough, the day of the inspection arrived. I made a point to stroll through the design department and took a glance at Tong Ming. He looked quite pleased with himself, wearing a smug smile as if everything was going according to his plan. It seemed he was very confident in what he was doing.
Tong Ming noticed me too. He raised an eyebrow and looked at me with an air of triumph.
"Liu Qianqian, how is it? Regretting breaking up with me?"
"Begging me now? It's not too late."
"I've been with Cao Yuan recently, you know?"
"She's the daughter of the Material Merchant, much better than you."
I rolled my eyes so hard I thought they might get stuck.
"Oh really? Then you should be good with her and stop bothering me."
With that, I walked away without looking back.
Just talking to someone like him made me want to throw up.
At noon, Lin Mingyuan asked me what I wanted to eat as usual.
I was in a bad mood and casually said anything would do.
Lin Mingyuan glanced at me, seeming like he wanted to say something,
but in the end, he said nothing.
While we were eating, Cao Yuan suddenly came over to assert her territory.
"Liu Qianqian, stay away from Tong Ming from now on!"
"Don't you know Tong Ming and I were together?"
I was speechless.
"Listen, could you please get it straight?"
"Ever since I broke up with Tong Ming, he's been the one pestering me."
"I never reached out to him first."
"This morning too, I went to find him,
but it was to tell him that there would be a surprise inspection at the warehouse this afternoon."
"Do you understand?"
Cao Yuan looked at me with disbelief.
